Chapter 51 Chapter 51
"Who the hell is it that sent this note? What if she isn't fine? How are we supposed to trust them after they destroyed our pack this much?" Worry just clouded my head more than before. "Who could have the omega captive? What if this is just a means to make us not worry about her but she's in serious danger?"
"Be calm, Alpha." Mason tried to console me.
"Good evening Alpha." A familiar red-haired lady interrupted us. "There's news from the pack email. Should I read it to you?"
I glanced at her in confusion then at Mason with a questioning raise of my eyebrow.
"She's Crystal's sister, Mae. She's a member of the pack but was out of town but now she's back for a while. She's really great at calculation and the pack needed help at the moment, so I made her the pack accountant and secretary. I'm sorry for not consulting you first, but you can decide to not make her have that role if you don't want it." Mason said.
"I don't really care. If we need someone for the position and you think she's fit for it, I believe you can make the right choice. Is there anything you need?" I asked her.
"Yes Alpha. I was about to finish up for today and realized that a new email just popped up from the group of strong packs. Should I read it out?" she asked, holding the laptop to her chest, securing it with her forearm.
"Yes," I replied.
"Good evening everyone. This is Alpha Vladimir of Night Shadow pack.
We're deeply sorry to inform you that our association just confirmed that there had been a miscalculation and the upcoming attack was supposed to be for Dark Stone pack and not Diamond pack. We deeply apologize for this error and we hope it's not too late.
Sincerely,
Vladimir Gray."
"Is Vladimir fucking serious?" a frown was plastered on my face. "Did he just trick us?"
"We shouldn't jump into such conclusions, Alpha. I believe it could've been a mistake. It's not necessarily an intentional act. It's just really sad that we weren't informed earlier."
"If only he had informed us earlier, then we could've prevented it." Mason heaved a heavy sigh. "Anyway, I think it'll be best if we all head to bed and sort out things tomorrow morning." He suggested.
I nodded back at him, in dire need of rest and the omega.
We all left for our respective rooms and my room was filled with the strawberry scent of the omega, causing my body to long for her touch again.
'I miss our mate so fucking much. How are we supposed to live our lives or spend tonight without her being around?' Drex groaned in frustration.
It felt like torture thinking about her and the fact that we had no idea where she was and that she was with the enemy made it even more torturous
It was dreadful for me to fall asleep, knowing fully well that she could probably be in danger and when I managed to sleep off, my dreams were filled with her and more nightmares of bad things happening to her.
After a long pack training session, I headed to my bathroom and had a long bath then got back to my room in my sweatpants, ready to start the day's work when my stomach grumbled from its lack of food.
'Mrs. Bea,' I mind linked her.
'Good morning Alpha. Do you need anything?'
'Yes please. Let someone send my food to my room.'
'Okay Alpha.' She replied and ended the link.
I continued working on my laptop, trying my best to avoid clouding my mind with worry but couldn't help it. The omega had been missing for an entire day now and the guards that had been assigned to search for her had no news about her whereabouts despites intensive searching. I felt like wrapping her in my arms and the desire to have her lips on me made my brain ache so much. I didn't realize how much her presence was needed around me until now.
After a while, there was a knock on the door. Assuming it was someone with my food, I called, "come in."
The person seemed to be struggling with opening the door but was able to open it eventually and Scarlett walked in with a tray of food in her hands, wearing a smile that didn't fit the ongoing sadness in the pack. Why the heck would Mrs Bea make her bring my food? That wasn't possible, else she wants to do it on purpose.
As she approached me, I noticed she was in a purple dress that was way shorter than the length of dresses she normally wore. It also showed a bit of her cleavage that wasn't so decent.
She sauntered to the table and served the meal on it, more of her thigh was exposed as she bent to serve the food.
Was she doing this on purpose? It made no sense if she was. I try to hold in my infuriation, convincing myself that it wasn't on purpose.
"Your food is served," she added with a warm smile.
A frown was glued to my face and my eyes squinted at her as I headed to sit in front of the table. She took me aback by staying beside me when I began to eat.
"Aren't you leaving?" I wondered m
"No, I'm joining you for breakfast."
"Why?" my face rumpled up.
"Everyone in the pack is currently very stressed out, including me and you, so I badly need someone's company and thought that it'd be nice to eat with you." She explained. "But it's okay of you don't want me to, I can leave immediately and-"
"It's fine." I stated plainly and started ingesting my meal.
There was a much appreciated silence for a while till she broke it, folding one of her legs over the other. " You know... everything is really happening so unexpectedly and crazily, but you shouldn't forget to take care of yourself. Don't neglect your health or overwork till you're very exhausted." Her voice was very calm and innocent which made me doubt if she had any idea that her thighs were revealing way too much than should be covered. It made me feel like I was committing a crime against someone by being this close to her, but I brushed the feeling off my mind. She might just want to talk, and I also needed someone to talk to.
I nodded, returning my full focus to my meal. " Thanks for your concern." I simply put. She continued eating and I wasn't certain if it was intentional but it seemed like she moved closer to me.
'She shouldn't dare to do anything stupid. We're remaining faithful to our mate no matter what.' Drex said.
'Stop being so ridiculous.'
'I'm not being ridiculous. Our mate is probably in trouble and this so-called Beta is trying to get close to you. It makes no sense. We both know how suspicious she has been acting and trying to get close to you.'
"Keegan, I know you're really worried about everything going on right now," she placed her hands on my biceps, leaning even closer to me, "but just know that I'm always with you."
Her touch felt like it was burning my skin and made me miss the omega's touch really badly. It felt like my blood was drenched when Scarlett hugged my arm, her breasts resting on me in a manner that was certainly not appropriate and definitely intentional. This time, it made me feel like I was committing an offense against the omega, like I was cheating on her or something like that.
'I told you she was up to something.'
I immediately pulled away from Scarlett and jerked to my feet, my face was scrunched up into a hard frown. "Scarlett, have you lost your mind? What are you trying to achieve?"
"Wh-what do you mean... Kee- Alpha?" she stuttered, confirming my suspicions.
"What is your problem? Why are you trying to get so close to me? Are you being serious right now? The whole pack is in danger, the omega is missing, yet you're interested in trying to cling to me? This isn't an opportunity for that, it's only stupidity. Do you think just because I ignored your acts at your parents' house, you can continue with them? Is it because I let you get away with lying to your parents that we're in a relationship? Stop being so clingy, it's annoying." I had incomplete control of what I was saying, Drex and I were equally furious, frustrated, and worried as hell, so her gestures just didn't make any sense at the moment.
"I'm just trying to comfort you," her brows were curled upwards.
"It's really discomforting. Please don't try to add to my problems with whatever strange thing you're trying to achieve. Don't ruin the little friendship we still have left, okay?" I grunted, trying to conceal my frustration to avoid hurting her too much.
Her eyes became glassy as she rose up to her feet. The tears in her eyes reduced my anger and made me feel like I had said way too much, though I still hid that from my facial expression. "I know our relationship isn't as strong as it used to be when we were children, but you were never this cold to me and would've never been angry over something like this if it wasn't for Jane, and that is definitely not fair at all. Despite all my sacrifices for you, you won't let an omega crash that little relationship we still have and I won't let it happen either." Her tone was very cold and despondent as she turned around and took her leave.
I was stuck with mixed feelings; I had no idea whether I ought to be mad at her or worried that I had said too much or feel guilty that I had let her touch me when the omega was nowhere to be found and my pack was still in danger.
I raked my fingers through my hair with a harsh sigh then headed to my laptop on the bed to begin work. Hopefully, it was going to clear my mind of everything for a while.
Only a few minutes passed when another knock came on the door.
"Come in," I said, not bothering to raise my head to check who it was when the person came in.
"Good morning to you too, Keegan." Mom said, drawing my attention to her.
I lifted my head and met her poker-faced gaze, her presence just destroyed my mood even more. "Do you need anything?" I asked, making it obvious that I didn't want her to be around me.
"Yes, I just saw Scarlett crying to herself and when I asked what happened, she explained how you were rude to her." She strutted to me, fiddling with every item her hand landed on.
I rolled my eyes at both of them and returned my focus to my laptop. "If that's all you have to say, you may please leave, I have so many things to attend to."
"Ignoring me wouldn't change the fact that you were rude to her like that simply because of that useless piece of a creature called the omega." She said in her low and stress-free voice. My hands clenched really tight as I gripped onto my laptop, forcing myself to type despite holding in my rage. "Don't forget Scarlett is your childhood friend, she shouldn't usual be treated like trash."
I lifted my gaze to her, raising my eyebrow, perplexion and exasperation were combined in my emotion. "What is wrong with you? Didn't you raise me to have a rigid personality and be mean and force me to end all of my friendships and relationships. Why do you want me to establish a strong friendship with Scarlett again after you made me destroy it? Can't you keep to a decision?" I raised my voice at the last sentence.
"i don't exactly want you to change your mind or the status of your friendship with Scarlett, but I'd prefer her than a stupid mutt, not as your mate or anything, but I don't want you treating her like she's disgusting because of the omega.
"You know this is what I've always warned you about. Now you're more stressed over an ordinary omega being missing. If you didn't establish a relationship with her in the first place, you still wouldn't care about her at all, and she'd still remain useless to you."
'How dare she try to decide what we do with our lives? Who the hell does she think she is to insult our mate the way she wants and get away with it?' Drex growled, slowly gaining dominance.
"Please leave," I requested through gritted teeth, holding in mine and Drex's anger."
"I know I've said my best. It's left to you to ruin yourself and the pack I've helped us - you build for so many years." She said then took her leave.
I wanted to scream at her to never return to my presence, but because I had been used to it from birth, her words always had an effect on me, no matter how hard I tried to ignore it or how much I proved that I was strong and arrogant enough to not obey her. I hated this woman so much!
My growlings filled my room, expressing my frustrations to myself and my wolf.
~ JANE ~
My eyes fluttered twice till they finally opened. My head was so heavy and I couldn't think properly till I tried to hold my head to stop the dizziness and realized my hands were tightly tied to the chair I was seated on. The giddiness left me completely at the fact that I was tied to a chair and in the middle of a dark room with only one bulb over my head that illuminated the room.
"Where am I? What's going on?" I tried to struggle free from the ropes, but they were way too secured for me to get out from. "How did I get here?" I was starting to get really sweaty and my chest was beating faster. "How am I here?"
My mind flashed back to being at the Andersons house then Pam had sent me on an errand and while I was thinking of Alpha Keegan and his kiss, I had lost consciousness from someone covering my nose with something. It fully dawned on me that I was kidnapped, I was fucking kidnapped! I had only seen about kidnappings whenever I was able to catch a glimpse of the movies other pack members were watching or whenever I read about them in books but had never imagined that I'd actually be abducted.
"Help! Help me! Alpha Keegan, Scarlett, somebody, help me!" I cried and tears started rolling down my face. There was no response so I started wailing. Who would want to abduct me? I had nothing to offer.
My wailing continued for a few minutes till I heard the sound of a door opening and closing. It made my heart throb really hard against my rib cage and my breath was sucking out of me at every step the person took closer to me.
"Wh-who are... you?" my entire body was trembling on the chair. Was this my end? Would I really end up dying like this?
"Just keep quiet," the person said in a very low rumble. The footsteps stopped and the part of the room a few steps away from me was illuminated with another bulb, revealing a figure with a familiar outline and the person was in an equally familiar cloak.
"Who are you?" I yelled, quivering even more in the tightness of the ropes.
"Glad you finally asked again," the person said and removed the cloak, letting it drop to the floor while my eyes bugged out of their sockets at the person standing in front of me.
