Chapter 50 Chapter 50
'What the hell? How's that even possible? What's going on?' I asked with a frustrated groan.
'We have no idea. It wasn't expected at all and everyone is in danger. We're all trying our best to fight against them but the strength of the strong members of the pack isn't enough to fight them and their attack is happening non-stop and is mostly affecting the children. I don't know how, but we're not really able to mind link one another in the pack. I've been trying to reach out to you since the last time you mind linked me but it wasn't working out. I don't even know how long this link will go on for. Just hurry back home Alpha." The panic in Mason's voice was one I've never heard from him. His usual boldness and sternness had been flushed down the drain.
'I'll be there. There's another big issue: the omega is missing. We have no idea where she is.' I also couldn't hide my worry at all, my palms were getting sweaty for the first time in a long time.
"That's really terrible, but Alpha, I believe the issue here is way worse. Please Alpha, your pack is more important than your mate for now. Don't let the lives of others be destroyed for one.' Though he didn't sound offensive, I was still pissed off a bit that he was making it seem as though her life was useless. I stopped to think clearly and realized he wasn't exactly wrong. 'Alpha?' he called. 'Has the link been cut off?'
'I'll be there soon.' I couldn't just leave when the omega was still missing and could probably be somewhere around here. 'Please send down a few of our strongest and smartest guards to search for her here. I won't feel comfortable fighting if I know she's not safe and around me.'
'Okay Alpha, I already thought about that and will assign them there for emergency right now. Please head over quickly. I'm trying to keep everyone safe and in hiding but they're still gaining dominance over us.' His voice croaked as he spoke.
'I'll be there. Just send the men here.' I cut off the link and mind linked Scarlett to head back to the building as fast as she could. By the time I arrived at the building, I met Scarlett by the door.
"What happened?" Scarlett asked when we got in, drawing Pam and George's attention to us.
"The pack is being attacked. We have to head back home right now. The attack is what too strong for any one to handle." I summarized, "Grab the bags and be back here in a minute." I instructed and ran up the stairs to pack mine and the omega's bags. Her scent was on her dress and bag and it made my stomach churn really bad; I really hoped she was safe.
When I returned downstairs, Scarlett was already there with her bags, her face was very droopy with different emotions running in her blue eyes.
"Let's get going."
"I really hope it'll be fine?" Pam asked, her eyebrows were also curled up in worry.
"If the attack is really bad, we can return to help you. It wasn't a long time since we retired. There's no way our strength could've been erased like that." George offered.
"You don't have to bother yourselves. It'll be fine..." I trailed off, uncertain if I was right.
"Okay Alpha, but just know you can call for our help anytime."
I nodded in appreciation and Scarlett gave her parents a quick hug before we headed to the outside and to the bus.
After stuffing the bags into the trunk with Pam and George's help, we got in. I started the bus and zoomed off, driving faster than I had ever driven with high hopes that we weren't going to have an accident.
The moment we got into the pack ground, screams filled out ears from different pack members running around while some were hiding and crying. There wasn't anyone chasing them- or maybe that's what I thought - they just seemed to be panicking.
'Mason, we're back at the pack. People are running around in panic. Are the attackers still around?'
'Yes they are. Please don't pay attention to the people running yet. I'll assign people to go over and calm them down there. Just head to the northern part of the pack, we'll catch up with you there.'
'Okay. Call someone to drive the bus home. I'll run there now.'
"Scarlett, get out of the car. We have to head to the north right now." I instructed and she nodded in understanding.
We got out of the bus and switched to our wolf forms, running to the north at a speed faster than any bus could go.
We arrived there in only a few minutes and my heart almost felt like it shattered at the sight of my hard- built pack on fire. Different houses were burning and people were screaming, some were crying and on the ground, trembling.
This made no sense. I had built my pack members to be so strong to fight against such things. How could they be like this and not fight back?
"Alpha," a young woman called, running over when she noticed me, holding her teenage daughter closely to her side. "The rogues have been attacking us all day long and no one is able to fight against them. They're way too strong." She cried.
Mason's wolf headed over to us. "Finally, you're back.
The rogues heard that you were back and started running away. We tried to keep up with them but they were very fast and literally disappeared from our sight."
"Please hurry up Alpha, they took my little sister and my best friend." The girl cried.
"Yes Alpha, they left with four of our children and we couldn't track their scent." Mason explained, fear vibrated in his voice as he spoke.
My blood boiled with intense fury burning in my bones. "How dare they attack my pack?!"
Without wasting any more time, I heightened my nose sensitivity to try and catch something at least strange. I was glad I could find a bit of sour smell in their scentlessness and immediately started running in the direction of the smell really fast with Scarlett almost managing to keep up with my pace.
After we had run for a really long time with my nose overworking, the scent slowly faded.
'What the hell? No way!' Drex growled, his anger could be felt within me as well. 'We have to find them!
}
'Alpha, the children are here.' Scarlett said and started running in a different direction and I tailed behind her.
We stopped in front of four children, crying, one of them was a teenager while the other three looked like they weren't any older than 3 or 7 years old.
'Are you all fine?" I asked them, but the younger children's tears only became louder. "It's okay, it's okay." Scarlett tried to calm them down. "Is anyone still with the attackers?" she asked. The teenage girl shook her head negatively and with shaky hands, she stretched out a piece of paper to me; it had the same stupid black heart symbol on it. "They asked me to give this to you." She sobbed, her body still quaked as hers and the children's eyes were widened in horror.
I accepted it in my mouth and lowered my body, signaling for them to get on my back. When the three younger children got on my back, the teenager got on
Scarlett's back then we carried them back to pack town safely.
The woman from earlier ran to her child and pulled her into a really tight hug while the other parents held their children, with tears rolling down their faces.
I couldn't tell whether they were tears of joy or fear but felt really broken watching my strong pack members in tears. Though the fire burning the houses had been extinguished, everyone was still in a terrible condition. 'Whoever dared to do this to my pack is certainly going to breathe his last breath with my claws buried in his neck.' Drex promised with his teeth gnashed together.
I left to change back to my human form and slipped on a sweatpant from the trees before heading back to them.
"Scarlert, arrange for shelter for the affected people and assign more guards for patrol tonight." I instructed and she nodded, taking her leave with Shane. "Mason, have you sent people to look for her, right?"
"Yes, they've arrived there and are in search of the omega. No news from them yet but hopefully, they'll find her very soon."
I let out a deep sigh, trying to stop the throbbing pain in my head from the multiple ongoing madness. Mason and I spent the next few hours restoring the calmness in the pack while I addressed everyone to assure them that everything was going to be fine.
When I made sure and was certain that the guards were properly assigned and everyone was safe, it was already past midnight then we decided to head back to the pack house.
Many members of the pack house were still awake and hanging around in the living room with their faces drawn in worry. When they noticed my presence, they were staring at me like they wanted to hear me speak.
"Everything is fine now. We can all head to bed, but please, let's be more cautious and aware of our surroundings. Training tomorrow will be even more intense so we need to head to bed now in order to be more active and fully awake early in the morning." I addressed them and they nodded before scattering in different directions.
When everyone had left- of course except Mason, Scarlett and I- Crystal ran to Mason to pull him into a tight hug, crying in his chest. "I'm so glad everyone is fine now. I almost died. Many people were injured from panicking and the burning affected a few people, mostly old members, but hopefully, they'll all be fine soon as well." She sobbed and Mason hugged her back, brushing her hair in a soothing manner, and was obviously trying to ignore our presence.
"Alpha, how about the note, what does it say?" Scarlett asked. "How could we forget to check it?"
I didn't forget about it, I was just a bit anxious to know what was in the note, not because I was scared, but because I didn't want to read about another bad piece of information.
I slipped it out of my pants' pocket. The strange black heart lifted my curiosity.
"This note again?" Mason asked, letting go of Crystal and walked up to us. What's with this symbol?
"I have no idea, but it's really crazy and it's starting to piss me off that we're heading to nowhere in finding out who leaves these notes." A frown formed on my face as I opened the note and read the words on it: 'We're way stronger than you think. This is just the beginning of the long horror for you and your pack, Keegan Gray.
However, don't bother yourself about your omega, Jane Williams....'
There was a symbol that looked like someone being stabbed and a red dot was on the note that looked like blood. My chest started pounding faster in fear as I quickly turned to the next page of the note:
'... what? Did that sound or look scary to you? It shouldn't. Jane's fine. She'll be returned to your pack in perfect condition. We promise that not even a single strand of her hair would be missing from her head and no single bruise will be on her skin. Remember to watch out for us because we have not just started without a goal but will end this
victoriously. Today marks the celebration of your doom and the beginning of the end of your reign.
