Chapter 106 Chapter 106
I was assisting grandmother in plucking a few fruits and vegetables and she was singing. Her voice was very melodious and soothing, the most pleasant singing I had ever heard.
She suddenly stopped singing but I didn't want her to stop. "Are you hungry, Jane?" She asked and turned to me.
"Even if I'm not hungry, I'm definitely craving your meal." I grinned.
She chuckled but I could sense a glimpse of sadness behind her smile. "What's wrong?" I asked her and she shook her head negatively. " Then where is that genuine big smile?" I asked with a playful frown.
"It's nothing. I'm just really glad you're happy again. I've been waiting my whole life to have you by my side. I'm one of the main witches that's also a werewolf. I can teach a lot about the way of witches if you're interested."
"Oh yes, please! "I had been trying to find a way to understand the witches' way and maybe find something that we could defeat them when they attacked the pack, but I didn't really want to ask directly in order not to seem suspicious.
Grandmother led me inside to and to her bedroom where she told me a lot about witches and showed me a few of their books that also contained spells and training to improve witches powers. Her room was filled with so many witch-related spells and magic potions. In one of the books, I also found out about the witches' weaknesses and asked her about it; she also educated me on it.
"Do you know that some witches that are naturally born, witches like us, can partake in hard practice in order to achieve the highest potential of their powers." She said, handing another book over to me.
"So since you claim that I am a natural half witch, does that mean I can discover my power if I just study about it and practice it?" I asked.
"Definitely! You can achieve it, and if you're ever interested, I can help you out. I have all the time in the world. And it'll give me a chance to spend enough time with my granddaughter." She grinned. "When you were younger, You made me promise you to teach you witchcraft. You made me promise you to be your first tutor on the way of the witches. It was going great and I was going to teach you until you soon, but you left and were no longer with us. I've cried so many times in these years missing my precious granddaughter, but now that you're back, I don't... I don't know... It still feels like you're away." She admitted.
"What do you mean by I'm away?" I squinted my eyes at her.
"Oh, nothing. You just came here really broken and you're not-no one is making it about spending time with you as your family, It's mostly just revenge here and there.
"To be honest with you, all I just want is for peace in this place. If only the fight could just be canceled and everything, everyone could reconcile and you could be happy with the man you truly want, It'll all make sense." She sighed. "But just know that regardless, we want the best for you. Though I'm not comfortable with revenge, if it'll make you happy, do it. If it doesn't, don't feel forced to do anything you don't want to do, no matter what your parents might say. Your dad can be a bit controlling sometimes and especially Freya, but as long as you know you're on the right path, you can always go with it." She said.
'I'm starting to think this woman doesn't have any idea about them controlling your mind and other things they're trying to do.' Vera said.
'Me too.'
"Well, let's forget about that for now," she chuckled. "Let's jump into more lessons straight away. Do you also know that there are ways you can add portions to food to also make it work? According to all of these, there are so many things to teach you and I'm so excited it's happening. When you finally have your gift, I can't wait to see the stronger woman you'll be."
When everyone was fast asleep, I was able to quickly sneak out. I had seen a book earlier that showed a passcode and the ways I could escape without being noticed, thanks to Grandmother's room of books. So I was able to get out of the town without being suspicious.
When I crossed the border, I switched to my wolf and quickly started running towards dark stone while following the directions with me.
I ran for the next couple of minutes till I was able to connect with Keegan again.
'Hey, Keegan, where are you now?' I mind linked him. 'I don't think it'd be a good idea to come into the pack house. What if someone from the pack sees me and announces it then my family members find out that I came here?'
'Don't worry, I already thought about that earlier. Where are you?'
'I'm heading towards the northern border.'
'Okay, I'll come pick you up.' He said then headed then ended the link.
I stopped a few feet away from the Northern border to not draw the attention of the security guards, then waited for a while and after a few minutes, I saw Keegan's huge wolf heading towards me.
Because he had pounced on me last time. I didn't really take the time to notice that his wolf was way taller than mine, though Vera was still pretty huge for a female wolf.
'Fucking perfect. Your wolf is absolutely so beautiful. Now I understand why they claimed you are a gift. You're literally the moon goddess child.'
'Thank you.' Vera chuckled.
'Please, let's just add back before we are caught. Where is Rylee?' I asked.
'I found a small cottage we can stay in. Rylee's also there. She has been waiting for you for eternity.' He said. 'In the meantime, we can use this an opportunity to go on a run. I've always wanted to go on a run with my mate.'
'Sure!' Vera agreed before I could.
We went on a run and he was way faster than me, but at a point, he decided to slow down, clearly trying to match my pace, so we moved in rhythm and it just felt so amazing to be by his side again till we decided to head to the cottage.
We switched to our human form then he wore his sweatpants and threw a dress to me to wear then walked in,
Rylee ran to meet us And wrapped her arms around me. "I missed you so much. I felt so lonely without you..'
"Hey, are you indirectly calling my existence useless after I'm doing my best to spend time with you and keep you company while she's away?" Keegan playfully frowned.
"I know you are trying you but and I appreciate it so much, but I just really missed Jane so much." She wasn't letting go of me at all till Keegan had to pull her away.
"Let her sit at least." He chuckled then I sat on the bed while they both sat on the sofa a few feet away from the bed.
I was startled when the cottage door was opened again then Mason walked in. "Sorry to barge in like that." He chuckled then walked up to us. "So do you have any information recently?"
"yes. They discussed the plans of the attack with Stefan and Vladimir...." I told them when it was going to take place and suggested a few things they could do. To prevent the witches' attack, thanks to grandmother's book, I was able to tell them a few herbs that were the witches' weaknesses and good thing, they were available at the pack.
"I definitely knew Jane going there was going to be of great benefit to us, how else were we supposed to know this?" Mason smiled.
"This is so crazy. If the pack's revenue is destroyed, it'd have a terrible effect on the pack members and everything." Keegan frowned.
"Yes. Plus, Vladimir and Stefan as well as the Ardolfs are betraying one another with fake promises yet still pretend to be united just to destroy Keegan."
"That could serve as a great benefit for us as well. We could use it against them." Keegan said, nodding.
Rylee had been paying so much attention till she started to yawn.
"Mason, please take Rylee back home. Go through the back door, don't draw any suspicions; you can just make it seem like you're coming back from a patrol." Keegan said and Mason nodded.
"I don't want to go yet, I want to spend time with Jane." Rylee said, still yawning and fluttering her eyelashes to try to stop them from closing sleepily.
"It's past your bedroom. You should leave now. I'll make sure to sneak out to you again, okay?" I said and she nodded.
I planted a kiss on her forehead then Mason carried her on his back then took his leave.
Keegan walked up to lock the door and I stood up to meet him.
"Now that we're alone, we shouldn't discuss anything about the pack, just us, okay?" I pulled him into a really tight hug. "I missed you so much Keegan."
"I missed you too." He hugged me back, planting a kiss on my forehead. His simple gesture was like a tank of butterflies in my tummy.
"Damn, I love you so much."
"I love you even more. There's no doubt about that." I chuckled, not wanting to start an argument with him.
"When will you head back?" He asked, caressing my arm.
"Pretty soon, but before then, now that I have my wolf, I can't wait to mark you as well." I stopped hugging him, pursing my lips
"I thought you'd never ask." He smirked and placed his hands on my waist pull me closer. "I can't wait to be marked by you either."
I made him sit on the bed then planted a kiss on his lips, trailing my kisses down to his neck.
I had no idea of what I was doing but with Vera's help, my canines extended and I dug my wolfy fangs into his neck; it felt something leave my body as I marked him.
I pulled away and he stared blankly, running his hand over his neck. "
That feels so amazing." He smiled.
"It's not fair that I had to pass out when you marked me but you're not fainting." I pouted.
"You're such a child." He chuckled then made me sit on his lap for a short kiss. "I can't wait for this phase to be over and start my life afresh with you. Once you're back from them, we'll carry out the ceremony and be officially married then we'd adopt Rylee. I'll make sure to fulfill every of your mate fantasies you mentioned back at the beach house; I'll start with living alone away from the pack house in a house of your choice."
"It all sounds too good to be true and I'm really excited to start such a journey of forever with you. You mustn't dare to do anything that'll break my heart like last time." I pointed my index finger at him.
"I really apologize about that. I realized it wasn't even worth it. Saying it hurt me more than it hurt you. I shouldn't let Mom keep trying to enforce her decision on me. I'd gain my total freedom from her madness and make sure her words or Stefan's words never get into my head. As long as I have you, I don't need anyone, I don't even need to be the strongest Alpha of the largest pack, I just want to be happy with you, Rylee, and our future children." He lifted my gown to rub my stomach. "This tummy will carry our little angels soon. I really can't wait for all of this to happen."
"Me neither. I hope nothing gets in our way." I grinned at him, glad and proud to be the mate of such an amazing man. "I love you so much and wouldn't stop mentioning it."
\- KATE-
I was feeling very weaker by the day. My strength was deteriorating and I knew it. I couldn't continue like this. I needed to consult the stronger forces to help me out again.
I had escaped death before, I couldn't let anybody's foolishness cause death for me again.
I finally got to the Witches chamber. Before I could knock, the door automatically opened and I stepped in, not even started by the strange door.
The same hag as so many years ago was still seated on the floor in a cloak covering her entire. There was a large pot on fire in front of her that she stirred with a large stick and that was the only thing that lit the room well enough. The other part of the room was so dark and wooden with glowing books and potions on the shelves as well as so many large pots and dirty broomsticks.
Everywhere was dusty but I still stepped in, ignoring my irritation to dirty environment.
"Hello?" I called her.
There was no response from the hag, she just continued mixing whatever she was mixing. "Hag?" I called again.
She suddenly turned to me, pointing the stick at me.
I flinched and stepped back, wondering what the hell was going on with the crazy old thing.
"I just knew it had to be you." Her voice was like a snake's hiss, so low and annoying. "Kate, you foolish woman, I never thought you'd come back again, but of course, you need the help of the most powerful witch alive." She laughed and rose to her feet, advancing towards me with the stick still pointed at me while I stepped back. " Let me guess. Your strength is washing off?" She tilted her head and dropped the teeth beside her. I flinched again from the sound of the hard stick against the wood and placed a bag made of sack over around her waist. "Am I right?"
"Y-yes." I stuttered.
"Stupid woman. It's clearly because Jane's locked up gift is coming soon. You know what you've been planning and how you've tried to lock up this gift for so long, but at this point I don't think I can help you out. The gift, strength, and her companions are way stronger than I can handle. She's clearly met her mother and father. And they'll obviously be helping her out, so there's no way you can stop her from being who she was destined to be."
"What am I supposed to do now? You know I can't survive without locking it up. Please help me out." I pleaded.
"I have absolutely no way to help you out. Being the strong-headed woman you are, I know you will consult others for help, knowing fully well that they'll never help you because there's no solution.
Then what am I supposed to do now?" For the first time in so many years, I was filled with so much fear than ever before.
She slipped an apple out of the bag. I thought she was going to give it to me to serve as help, but she just dug her teeth into it and spat it on my face.
"Do not ignore my question. What am I supposed to do?" My fists and jaw clenched at her disgusting nature.
"You know I'll never advise this, but the only other solution you have is to kill Jane. As long as she's alive, she'll definitely unlock her potential and you'll die a painful death."
