Chapter 39: First Kiss Lost
The kiss was quick and lacked any real passion, just a brief touch before it was over.
Still, Rebecca's heart was pounding.
She mumbled a quick "Morning" without looking up at Frederick, then turned and bolted out of the car.
Her small figure darted through the school gates like she was running away.
She could still taste the milk she had drunk on her lips.
In the cold morning light, Frederick's eyes softened as he watched her go.
Rebecca didn't stop running until she was deep inside the school grounds. She turned around to make sure Frederick's car was out of sight before letting out a long breath.
Her face felt like it was on fire.
Ah!!
Her phone screen lit up, and Rebecca jumped, thinking it was a message from Frederick.
Instead, her chat was filled with question marks.
All from Isabella.
They hadn't finished their conversation last night. Rebecca had just sent a quick "Goodnight."
On the other end, it was like Isabella had taken that "Goodnight" as some kind of secret code and hadn't sent another word.
As if "Goodnight" didn't mean Rebecca was going to sleep, but something else entirely.
By their usual routine, any unfinished conversation would be picked up the next morning.
Especially since Rebecca had school today.
Classes started at eight, and any unfinished topics from the night before were usually continued before then.
But now, there was no response from Rebecca.
[?]
[? What's going on? Don't tell me things got so intense last night that you're still not up?]
[Rebecca, weren't you supposed to be studying hard and making progress every day? You already canceled your leave, are you planning to skip a whole day of class?]
[Where are you?]
[?]
Rebecca remained silent.
"Isabella, is your head filled with nothing but dirty thoughts? I really did go to sleep last night, nothing happened."
Typing wasn't enough to convey her frustration and disdain, so Rebecca sent a voice message. Then, biting her lip, she sent another text, "But just now, I lost my first kiss!"
?
In the next moment, her phone started vibrating incessantly.
"Does Mr. Windsor have some kind of erectile dysfunction or something?"
As soon as the voice call connected, Isabella's shocking words burst out.
Certain that Frederick wasn't around, Isabella's voice was full of disbelief, "He kissed you, and it was just a first kiss? Didn't he make your first kiss and first time happen together? That's not right, unless..."
"Stop!"
Rebecca was both embarrassed and angry, "Isabella, if you keep talking nonsense, I won't tell you anything anymore."
"Okay, okay, my bad!"
Isabella quickly backed down, muttering under her breath, "Your so-called first kiss wasn't just a good morning kiss or a goodbye kiss, was it?"
Rebecca fell silent.
Hearing no response, Isabella knew she had guessed right and chuckled, "It was just a peck, not even a deep kiss, let alone a French kiss. What is this... never mind, for you, it counts as a first kiss! But Becca, when Mr. Windsor kissed you, didn't you feel disgusted?"
Rebecca was taken aback by the question.
She had complained countless times to Isabella about how she found kissing disgusting because of Dennis.
The first time Dennis tried to kiss her, everything was perfect.
The atmosphere was just right, and she could almost see his intention in his eyes.
But the moment he leaned in, she instinctively pulled away.
It felt like a brother kissing a sister, causing a strange psychological and physical discomfort.
Later, she would either think he smelled of smoke and would pull away before he got close.
Or he had been drinking.
On the rare occasions he hadn't smoked or drunk, she would find other excuses to avoid it.
In short, she didn't want any contact more intimate than holding hands.
Dennis even joked, asking if she didn't like men.
Now, with Isabella's question, Rebecca suddenly realized how much she had always resisted intimate contact.
So what about Frederick?
A flash of confusion crossed Rebecca's eyes.
