Chapter 38: Good Morning, Mrs. Windsor!
When her alarm went off, Rebecca groggily reached for her phone and quickly turned it off.
Then, she snuggled back into the warm embrace, waiting for the next alarm to go off.
The whole process was smooth and practiced.
A muffled laugh above her head made Rebecca open her eyes abruptly, realizing something was off.
This wasn't her bedroom in the Getty family mansion.
It wasn't even her dorm room.
This was Pinewood Mansion!
Looking up, she met Frederick's amused gaze.
The awkward scene from yesterday morning flashed through her mind, and Rebecca quickly sat up from his embrace, awkwardly rubbing her hair. "Um, I... I didn't talk in my sleep or kick you last night, did I?"
Talk in her sleep?
Did she mean that "Thank you, darling"?
As for kicking... the moment she woke up, Frederick's arms felt empty. He shook his head. "Nope!"
Rebecca sighed in relief and got out of bed, heading to the bathroom before the awkwardness could settle in.
Looking in the mirror, Rebecca froze.
Her lips were a deep red, making her skin look even more delicate.
Her lower lip seemed to have a glossy sheen, slightly pouting, giving off an inexplicable sense of sensuality.
She pressed her lips together, feeling a slight tingle.
It was as if she had dreamt of eating something delicious and had spent a long time savoring it.
But she clearly hadn't!
Confused, she finished washing up and went downstairs. Frederick was already sitting at the dining table waiting for her.
Looking up, she saw Layla glance at her, pausing for a moment before her smile deepened.
Rebecca took a bite of her bread, puzzled. "Layla, what's up?"
Why was she so happy this early in the morning? Did something good happen?
"Nothing..."
Layla glanced at Frederick and smiled. "Seeing you eat well and sleep well makes me happy! Eat up, we need to leave soon."
Rebecca nodded and focused on her breakfast.
About ten minutes later, Rebecca, feeling full, held the hot milk Layla had prepared and followed Frederick out the door.
At seven in the morning in winter, the sky was still dark.
By the time the Maybach stopped at the west gate of Empire University, a faint light was just appearing on the horizon.
Rebecca finished her milk and put the cup back in the holder, turning to Frederick. "Remember to take the cup back home for Layla to wash tonight, or it'll start to smell if left in the car."
Frederick nodded. "Okay."
"I don't have classes on Friday afternoon, so I'll get back on my own. You don't need to pick me up."
"Okay."
Despite the dim surroundings, Frederick's expression softened, and his eyes seemed to light up, as if whatever she said, he would patiently respond with "Okay."
Rebecca couldn't help but frown slightly. "Frederick, is there something you want to tell me?"
No.
As long as you're okay, that's enough.
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but Frederick changed his mind. "Of course."
Rebecca looked up.
From the driver's seat, Frederick reached out and touched her head.
She thought he was going to pat her head and say, "Rebecca, study hard!"
Rebecca's lips curved up, ready to respond with "Okay."
The next moment, Frederick's hand slid to the back of her head.
His handsome face suddenly came close.
Rebecca's heart skipped a beat.
Then, Frederick's lips landed on hers.
"Good morning, Mrs. Windsor!"
A... a good morning kiss?
But it had been a while since they said good morning!
Her heart pounded nervously, and Rebecca forgot to close her eyes.
