Chapter 24: Everything Is Over!
"Dennis, I know you're still mad at me—for not helping you, for not helping the Getty family... but I've almost convinced my parents. Can't you be a little more patient and give me some time?"
Dennis was fuming at Rebecca's avoidance, but he kept his cool and tried to calm her down.
In a hoarse voice, Dennis said, "You did it on purpose, didn't you? To mess with me, you deliberately went to the Windsor family's party, and you dragged my Uncle Frederick out just to spite me, right?"
"Becca, come back, please?"
Facing Rebecca's calm gaze, Dennis felt his heart soften.
The next moment, he heard Rebecca's clear voice, "Frederick and I have registered our marriage. Dennis, I told you last time, from now on, when you see me, you should call me Aunt Rebecca."
"I came here to make it clear that everything between us is over!"
"Dennis, we can't go back, and honestly, I don't want to!"
She always wanted a love where both parties loved each other deeply and unwaveringly—like Henry's love for Alexa.
Growing up in a family filled with love, she always believed that love should be exclusive and eternal.
When she was young and naive, the two families lived close by, always together, teased by adults about how perfect they were for each other, and she'd shyly brush it off.
When she received his confession during her teenage years, she thought it was love.
But many times, Rebecca doubted whether it was truly love.
When she announced their breakup without feeling much pain, Rebecca realized it wasn’t as heartbreaking as the novels and TV shows made it seem.
You love me, I will return your love equally or even more.
If you don't love me, then let's part ways amicably, and live our lives well separately.
Even without romantic love, the friendship built over the years was precious to her.
"You... already registered your marriage?"
Dennis looked at Rebecca in shock, as if he had heard something unbelievable.
He slowly realized why no one mentioned Rebecca after the Windsor family’s matchmaking party.
The Getty family’s debt was paid off.
Rebecca didn't need to borrow money anymore.
Without her news, people naturally stopped talking about her.
So, this was all Frederick's doing?
A flash of humiliation crossed Dennis's eyes, and he clenched his fist in anger.
The wound from the glass shards hurt again, and he could faintly feel the blood seeping out.
Dennis looked up, his fierce gaze suddenly turning calm.
"Registered marriage, huh? Well... indeed, there's no going back!"
Dennis curled his lips and looked at Rebecca, "I haven't congratulated you on your marriage yet!"
"No..."
Rebecca's words were cut off by Dennis's firm interruption, "Becca, even if we can't go back to how things were, we still grew up together, right?"
"I definitely won't attend your wedding, but let this drink be my blessing to you..."
Looking at Rebecca, Dennis said seriously, "May you be forever... happy!"
With that, Dennis walked past Rebecca and opened the door to the private room, summoning the waiter, "Two margaritas, one on the rocks, and one... extra sweet!"
The waiter glanced at Dennis and softly replied.
Returning with a tray, he brought two sea-blue cocktails.
Dennis took the one with ice and handed the other to Rebecca.
Dennis looked at Rebecca and raised his glass, "Becca, I wish you all the best!"
