Chapter 204 See You in Three Days
Perhaps it was because he was eating well and sleeping soundly.
Or perhaps his time playing with Rebecca had boosted his spirits, and that improved mood was accelerating his recovery.
Over the next few days, Alex’s fever didn’t return.
On closer inspection, he even seemed to have filled out a little.
Rebecca looked him over from every angle, pinching Alex's soft, chubby cheeks and marveling at how good they felt to the touch. "Starting tonight, you’re Frederick's responsibility. I've got things to handle! I'll see you in a few days!"
Instinctively glancing at Frederick, Alex turned a serious gaze toward Rebecca.
She looked amused. "Three days, okay?"
She had to return to the Getty family villa tonight, and she planned to attend an exhibition the following day.
Besides, it was already winter break. She wanted to seize this opportunity to spend some quality time with her mother; after all, what kind of daughter would she be if she kept running out every day?
"I'll come back to play with you on Friday. We'll go to the old mansion over the weekend and then go skiing, okay?" Rebecca coaxed.
Alex nodded obediently, while in the driver's seat, Frederick’s expression soured. "Becca, so I'm just a doormat now, is that it?"
Rebecca's cheeks flushed a deep, visible red.
Frederick’s smile had just begun to widen when he heard her resentful complaint. "Even working people get breaks! I'm Mrs. Windsor after all—I can't be worse off than a regular worker, can I? Frederick, if you keep exploiting me like this, I'm going on strike!"
With the Getty family villa looming just ahead, Rebecca's confidence seemed to know no bounds.
She'd figured it out.
Even if Frederick had the audacity to manufacture another excuse to visit, the most he could do was linger until dark and stay for dinner.
Would he actually have the audacity to stay the night?
She bet Frederick wasn't quite that thick-skinned and wouldn't dare do something so outrageous.
Frederick raised an eyebrow. "Going on strike? Becca, aren't you always on strike? The day you actually show some initiative is the day I'll stop exploiting you."
'Rebecca, when will you learn? Have you ever actually won an argument with Mr. Windsor?' she scolded herself, falling into a frustrated silence.
Alex poked her cheek, and when Rebecca turned back, she found him looking puzzled, reaching out as if to check her forehead: Rebecca, are you sick? Why is your face so red?
Left speechless, Rebecca shook her head to show she was okay and leaned in to whisper something in Alex's ear.
The car came to a halt, and without so much as a "goodbye, Frederick," Rebecca bolted from the vehicle and raced straight into the Getty family villa.
Leaving Frederick only with her angry back.
Smiling, Frederick turned to look at Alex. "What did she say to you?"
Alex shook his head: Nothing.
Frederick's eyes narrowed slightly.
Alex smiled: It's a secret between her and me, and I'm definitely not telling you!
Looking at Alex's fearless little face, Frederick's expression relaxed. "If you cooperate nicely, I'll let you stay at Pinewood Mansion until she goes back to school. Otherwise, I don't mind sending you back to the old mansion right now to spend a wonderful winter break with your Legos."
Alex's small, indignant face was clouded with anger.
Frederick remained unmoved. "1, 2..."
Before he could say 3, Alex gave in.
