Chapter 120 Who Provoked You
Rebecca walked through the school gate and looked back. The Maybach was still parked quietly by the roadside.
Too far away to see Frederick's face clearly.
She could only make out a vague silhouette.
But Rebecca knew Frederick was watching her.
With a bright smile, Rebecca waved her hand, then turned and walked forward.
The dim yellow streetscape suddenly darkened. Staring at the spot where Rebecca had disappeared, Frederick stayed there for a long while.
However fulfilling the past two nights had been, that's how empty he felt now.
And this emptiness would last for six whole nights.
Until Rebecca came back next Friday.
After staying for a long time, confirming that Rebecca wouldn't run back like last time, Frederick started the car and drove straight to the Windsor Mansion.
He had dinner with Elizabeth and watched TV for a while.
Then Frederick went to the study.
Alex was drawing.
It looked like a maze, or maybe just aimless doodling. At first glance, the white paper was covered with dense curves.
Frederick looked back at Alex. "Not happy?"
Alex glanced at Frederick with a resentful look, saying nothing.
Clearly agreeing with what he said.
"What's wrong? Who upset you?"
Frederick looked around, surveying the room.
Everything was as usual.
The elaborate, large Lego set was being assembled step by step, with piles of tiny parts arranged in neat disorder.
His textbooks were neatly stacked, and his homework was well done, too.
Nothing seemed wrong.
The servants who took care of Alex at the old mansion had been there for over ten years and were devoted to him.
If there was anything wrong, it could only be him.
Before getting married, he would come back every few days to have dinner with Elizabeth and see him.
After marriage, he only had time on weekends and hadn't come on weekdays anymore.
"Mad at me?"
Frederick ruffled Alex's hair, looking apologetic. "Then I'll come back every other day from now on, to draw with you and play with you, okay?"
No way.
Alex tilted his head, dodging his hand.
Frederick paused.
Looking at Alex's sulky face again, in a flash, he figured it out.
Frederick narrowed his eyes and looked down at Alex. "So, you're mad at Becca?"
His hand paused, and the previously smooth line took a sharp turn.
Alex pressed his lips together silently.
Frederick knew he'd guessed right.
He raised his eyebrows. "You've only met her a few times? And you already like her this much?"
He'd thought that with Alex's proud personality, even if he really liked Becca, he might not admit it.
Unexpectedly, he nodded seriously.
Frederick smiled and tapped him on the forehead. "Then, come back to Pinewood Mansion with me?"
Alex shook his head.
Frederick sighed. "Then I'll come pick you up next weekend?"
Alex nodded with a smile.
As Frederick got up to leave, Alex grabbed his sleeve.
"What's wrong?"
Frederick asked.
He saw Alex's eyes fall on his phone.
After a pause, Frederick asked, "You want to call Becca?"
Is that okay?
Alex's eyes asked the question. Frederick's heart stirred.
The psychologist had said that Alex had a room in his heart where he locked himself in, only allowing a limited few people to knock on his door.
Like him, for instance.
Or Elizabeth, or perhaps those few people who took care of him.
But now, he was willing to open the door and walk out on his own.
And the person who made him open the door was Becca.
His heart pounding, Frederick took out his phone and called Rebecca.
"Hello, Frederick..."
"Becca, Alex wants to..."
The words "talk to you" were on the tip of his tongue, but afraid that Alex, who had just tentatively reached out, might sensitively withdraw again, Frederick changed his words. "Alex misses you!"
"Alex?"
On the other end, Rebecca's voice became excited. "Do you miss me?"
Looking flustered, Alex seemed unsure what to do.
Rebecca's voice came through again.
