CHAPTER 45
CHAPTER 45
Adrain ran a hand through his hair and stopped walking for a minute. Sara was resisting, and Damien was having a hard time doing his job.
She was refusing to go to the hospital without him. Why was she being so stubborn and caring all of a sudden? It was because of her that they were in this situation. Or was it her guilt that was making her care about him? “Boss.”
‘Boss?’ Adrain stared at his assistant and very good friend with a frown on his face. “It's Adrain Sean, just Adrain.” “Adrain.” “And don’t forget it.” Sean raised his hands in mock surrender and smirked.
“Yes sir.” Adrain shot him a dirty scowl, and Sean chuckled, deciding to stop teasing him. “Sara is giving Damien a hard time.” “I’m not surprised.” The smirk was back on his face. Adrain ignored him as he continued speaking. “She needs to get her injuries checked.
She has a few cuts and bruises on her body.” “Boss.” He started and paused when his friend made an inaudible noise in the back of his throat. “Adrain, Sara mentioned that you also have some injuries. Do you need me to take you to the hospital?” “No, I don’t; I am fine.
She’s the one who almost got raped by Elijah.” He yelled and sighed, looking up. The smirk on Sean’s face was now replaced by the same frown that was on his friend’s face. “Your father is really pissed about what happened tonight with Elijah.
Remember, Elijah’s father is an important associate of his.” Adrain’s fists clenched at the mention of Elijah’s name, and he glared at his friend. “Don’t mention that animal’s name to me anymore; I don’t want to hear it.” ‘You mentioned his name first.’ Sean thought, but said instead.
“His father is very important for the corporation, and you know it.” Sean continued, unaffected by Adrain’s anger. “I don’t care if he’s the largest shareholder in the company; he shouldn’t have forced himself on Sara the way he did.”
Just thinking about the way Sara had been pleading and begging for him to let her go fueled his anger. Sean shook his head and placed his hands on Adrain’s shoulders, noting that he was getting more upset. “I know what he did was wrong; heck, I would have done the same thing, but you need to take it easy.”
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, the other one falling to his side. “Just take things easy and think about the company and your father.” Adrain closed his eyes and tried to calm his nerves. Thinking about Elijah would only fuel his anger, so he didn’t want to do that anymore. Opening his eyes, he caught Sean’s eyes.
“I have heard you.” “Why don’t you just marry this girl? You’ve become so protective of her.” Sean commented, and Adrain frowned. “I am not into her, and can you just let this go? Sean shook his head.
“You know very well what I’m talking about, Adrain. The care you show for her is unbelievable. I have never seen you care so much about someone. Just get married to her already, or do you want someone to take her away from you?”
For some reason, the thought of Sara with someone else upset him, but he resisted the urge to flare up. He took a deep breath and slipped a smile on his face, one that didn’t reach his eyes.
“The only woman I will ever get married to is Annie; she’s the one I love more than anything or anyone, and you know this.” Sean knew this, but with what he had just seen, there were doubts in his mind. He asked instead. “Why is she still in your house? Why haven’t you let her go yet?” Flashes from their night and where it all began rose in his mind, and he shut his eyes.
“She is free to leave me after 30 days. I am not even the one holding her back, but I have promised that she is free to walk away after 30 days.” “Did you deal with Elijah very well?” Sean asked, and Adrain laughed at the glee in his voice. Sean would never support evil; he was only speaking because they were friends and he was concerned. He nodded.
“He will need to be taken to the emergency ward a few times.” Sean chuckled. “A few stitches for the bastard, not a bad thing at all.” Adrain shook his head softly. “I thought so too.” The smile on Sean’s face slipped, and Adrain narrowed his eyes, wondering what he wanted to say.
“You are becoming too impulsive because of Sara.” He said he was staring his friend in the eye. “It doesn’t speak well for your reputation, and people are starting to talk and wonder if you’ve gone soft.” Adrain growled under his breath. “If you weren’t my friend.” He glared at Sean.
“I’m still the ruthless Don you have always known, and doing a few favors for someone who is being wronged will never change that.” Sean raised his hands. “Whatever you say, boss.” They fell into a comfortable silence, each lost in his own thoughts.
Sean opened the car door for Adrain, and he got in, catching his father’s eyes. They were blazing with anger like little red coals. “Boss.” Sean acknowledged Bryce and then shut the door, going to the driver’s side. Adrain sighed, deciding to get things over with.
“Father.” “You have a lot of nerve calling me that after disrespecting me tonight.” “He deserved it, father; I would never punish the innocent.” Bryce growled under his breath and glared at him. “What happened?” Adrain sighed again and looked down at his hands. “Elijah took Sara to a room in the private lounge and tried to take advantage of her.
He was forcing himself on her when I walked into the room.” Bryce laughed, surprising his son, who stared at him with a confused look on his face. “Is that what happened?” Was that a smirk on his father’s face? “I should have killed him when I had the chance.
The idiot thought he could take advantage of Sara just because I had given her to him.” ‘Perhaps I won’t have to do much at this point.’ Bryce thought but patted his son’s shoulder, a huge grin on his face. Things were going better than he thought they would, and now he could get his wish without having to do much.
“Where is Sara?” “I sent her with Damien to the hospital to get checked out. I just hope that idiot didn’t do anything to hurt her, because then I won’t be able to stop myself from finding him and ending his miserable life.” Adrain’s protectiveness had Bryce smiling. It was a secret smile that slipped off as Bryce came to a realization.
“You beat Elijah; surely you must have some injuries.” Adrain shrugged but didn’t say anything. He didn’t want or need his father fussing over him the way Sara had been. Bryce picked up his phone and dialed a number. “Dr. Reed, I need you to be on standby for when I arrive; my son needs to be checked out.”
He dialed a few more numbers, and Adrain rolled his eyes. ‘Great.’ He thought and shut his eyes, leaning into the seat. Sara would finally get her wish. He would be checked by a doctor, just like she wanted. She wasn’t e
ven here, and yet someone was doing her bidding.
