CHAPTER 46
CHAPTER 46
“Adrian.” Sara continued to yell even as she was pulled towards a white limousine. Why was Adrain ignoring her? He had injuries, so why wasn’t he coming along to the hospital? “Be careful with her.” Damien warned, eyeing the men that were pulling Sara. He knew very well that nothing bad could happen to her. None of the men were allowed to be rough with her. Adrain will have their heads if anything happens to her.
“Please get in, ma.” One of the men said with a sigh.Sara stared at him for a while and then stood on her tiptoes to glance behind him. With a defeated drop of her shoulders, she reluctantly got into the limousine, thanking Damien as he closed the door behind her. Damien whispered his thanks to whoever had helped him convince the lady to comply and got into the passenger’s seat. “Drive.” “Is your boss not coming along?’
Damien shut his eyes and bit back a curse. “Ma’am, please just sit tight. We are taking you to the hospital.” “Your boss is injured as well. What about him? He needs to be treated as well.” Sara argued, not ready to listen. Adrain had more injuries since he had saved. His head—he had hit his head that time. If he didn’t want to check anything else, he could at least make sure that was checked. “At least call him, for my sake.”
Damien eyed the driver and the other man that was sitting with them and sighed. He signaled one of the men to call Adrain. The boss was the only one who could take control of the situation. The boss showing up was the only way he could have peace, and he was willing to do it.
He collected the phone and dialed the number himself, grunting when it didn’t go. “His line is busy, ma’am.” His frustration was obvious in his voice. He tried the number a few more times, but it was still busy. Who was the boss calling? “Keep trying, please. He should meet us at the hospital so he can get treated as well.”
“I’m sure he is just as concerned for his health, ma’am.” Damien wanted to say, but the hospital came into view, and he let out a sigh of relief. “We are here, ma’am.” He got down quickly and opened her door, helping her out. Sara reluctantly got down from the car and allowed them to lead her into the hospital. She was going to kill Adrain for ignoring his health like this.
“She needs a thorough examination.” Damien told the doctor and watched as Sara was being led into a room.“I’m perfectly fine; it is Adrain that needs to be checked.” She yelled just as the door closed behind them. Damien slumped in the seat, glad to be rid of Sara for at least a while. He made some calls while he waited, trying the boss’s number again, but it was still busy. Giving up, he placed his phone in his lap and waited.
“The doctor said you are as fit as a horse.” Damien smiled and stood in front of Sara. Sara rolled her eyes and crossed her hands over her breasts. The movement caused her breasts to move up a little, and Damien was distracted by them a little.
“I knew that. I clearly said I was okay, but no, none of you listened to me. Your boss is the one who needs to be checked out.” She glared at him. “Did you call him? Why isn’t he here yet?” Damien frowned and dipped his hands in his pockets, looking at his shoes.
They were a bit dirty, but that was expected after the rescue mission. “His line has been busy. I tried a few times while you were with the doctor, and it was busy.” Sara narrowed her eyes. “Are you lying to me?” He shook his head and sighed. “I promise you, ma’am, I called him.” It was Sara’s turn to sigh. “Let’s go; there’s nothing else to do here.”
Damien agreed with her. “Let’s go boys.” He led her out, walking close to her as they made their way back to the limousine. “Where to boss?” one of the men asked, staring at Damien. Damien eyed Sara in question, and she shrugged. ‘Since when did they ask her for instructions?’ she wondered as she got into the limousine.
“Sir.” She heard as the door closed behind her, and she frowned, peeping to see what was happening. She opened the door and saw that one of the men was on the phone talking to someone while the others, including Damien, were standing beside him as if waiting for instructions. It was definitely Adrain that was calling.
"Yes, boss, we are done at the hospital and are on our way to the penthouse.” “Is that him? Adrain, why didn’t you come to the hospital? Your wounds need to be checked. Please come here.” She yelled, and Damien sighed, walking towards her. He pushed her inside gently and closed the door, instructing the driver to lock the doors. Bryce laughed on the other side of the phone after hearing Sara’s voice. “Bring her.” “Yes boss.”
‘Finally.’ Sara thought as they led her to a room in the villa. She had questions about why they were here, but she knew the men were fed up with her, so she kept it to herself. Pushing the door open, she sighed and walked in.
All the events of the day came crashing down on her and she felt exhausted. Staring at the bed in the room, she moved towards and stopped midway when her eyes fell on Adrain sitting on a chair. Suddenly she didn’t feel tired anymore, and she ran across the room, stopping in front of him.
She ran her eyes over him and kneeled in front of him, using her hands to check if he was okay for herself. Satisfied, she hit his back softly, glaring at him. “Why did you refuse to come to the hospital? Remember you fell? What if something happens to you again?” Adrain frowned.
“What are you doing here? Damien!” Bryce smiled as he watched Sara fuss over his son. At least his plan had yielded some kind of result. Adrain glared at his father. He knew he was somehow responsible and wondered what the old crow was planning.
“As much as I am enjoying this little show, Sara, I must ask you something.” Bryce said, and Adrain narrowed his eyes. What was his father up to again? “Why did the both of you end up at the bottom of the cliff?” Sara froze and stared at Adrain.
Could she tell Bryce that she had been running away? How would she explain it? Adrain ran a hand down his face in exasperation. “Dad, there’s no need for all these questions. Is there?” “Of course there is, son.” Sara opened her mouth and closed it a few times, at loss for words. "Well, I was.”
“The truth is I stormed out of the hotel and drove us to an empty park, then I got down and left. Sara ran after me, and well, she got lost while trying to find me, and we ended up at the bottom of the cliff.” Adrain finished talking and avoided Sara’s gaze.
“Is that what happened, my child?” Bryce asked, staring at Sara, whose attention was fixed on his son. Had she fallen for him already? He could only hope. He wasn’t sure he believed the story Adrain had just told him. It sounded like a made-up one and not at all what had happened, but he didn’t push it.
Sara nodded, still staring at Adrain. How had he managed to do that so effortlessly? She shivered when he caught her gaze and looked away. “He needs a doctor.” She announced, staring at Bryce. Bryce nodded, looking amused by her concern. “I already took care of that. I had a few doctors come here to check him out.” Sara sighed in relief, an action that didn’t go unnoticed by Bruce, who smiled. Perhaps these 30 days would produce a positive result. “Thank you; I was worried.” She said not bothering to hide her joy in the fact that he was okay.“How is school, my dear?” Bryce asked Sara, and she sighed, sitting beside Adrain on the couch.
“Fine, I am pushing it.” She was suddenly aware of Adrain's gaze on her, but she didn’t look up from her hands, which suddenly seemed interesting. Bryce nodded and stared at the two for a long time. “How are things at home? Hope there is no problem.” It was an open question, and Sara rubbed her hands together, not sure how to respond. Adrain answered, saving her the trouble. “Fine.” “You can leave; stay away from cliffs from now on.” He joked, laughing at his own words.
Adrain grunted but didn’t reply. He rose to his feet and looked at Sara, who was still staring at her hands. Was she avoiding his gaze? “Are you ready to go?” Sara nodded, still not meeting his eyes as she rose to her feet. She smiled at Bryce, a weak and tired one.
“Thank you for everything.” Bryce was tempted to ask what she was thanking him for specifically, but he changed his mind and nodded in response, waving as the both of them walked out of the room, the door closing behind them. “30 days.” He muttered under his breath. There was
a smile on his face. “30 days.”
