Chapter 18 Black Wolf

“Here is the black wolf mark on Helen,” Mark said as he opened the lid of the wooden box.

I secretly glanced out of the corner of my eye and saw a bloody arm in the box with a triangular spike tattoo mark printed on it. The mark stared at me like a vicious eye, causing me to cover my chest with my left hand.

I breathed carefully and tried to calm my fears.

“It really is the mark of the black wolf!” Leon glanced at the box, but his facial expression remained unchanged. It seemed that he was accustomed to seeing these bloody things.

“Then you know what to do. Just do it!” Leon ordered Mark in an alpha tone.

“Yes, my prince!” Mark closed the lid of the wooden box and left the room, his demeanor remaining cold. It had only been a few hours since I last saw him, and he had already been able to investigate the poisoning.

It was clear that Mark was a warrior who didn’t speak much, but was highly efficient and had earned Leon’s trust.

At that moment, I had lost my appetite and felt sick to my stomach. There were still a few pieces of mutton left on my plate, but I couldn’t bring myself to eat them. My mind was still fixated on the bloody arm I had just seen. To prevent myself from vomiting, I quickly picked up my glass and took a sip of red wine.

“You don’t have to stop,” Leon said, giving me a look. “I’ve lost my appetite too because of my curiosity. It’s not worth it.”

“I’m sorry, I would have rather been blind if I had known this would happen,” I said apologetically.

“My stomach feels even more disgusting after drinking red wine. I think I might vomit at any moment.”

“It seems like you have a lot to learn, and your face is very pale. Were you scared by what was in that box just now?” Leon asked, stroking my cheek with concern. “Maybe I should take you outside for some fresh air. Come on, let’s leave.”

“If this hadn’t happened at the dinner table, I would have performed better,” I said, wiping my mouth with a napkin and standing up quickly. The restaurant was now filled with the foul smell of blood.

“Oh God, I can’t wait to leave here.” I walked ahead of Leon, and as soon as I stepped out of the restaurant, a cool night breeze blew through the corridor window, making me feel better.

Leon led me through a long corridor and up a flight of stairs hidden behind a door. As we opened the final door, I realized that we had reached the top floor of the castle.

It was a wide, open space surrounded by wavy stone guardrails that only reached my waist. From the side of the guardrail, I could see the entire courtyard below.

“Maybe if you look up, you’ll see a different view,” Leon suggested, standing beside me. His voice was soft and silky, like a gentle breeze in the dark.

I followed his gaze and looked up to see the round moon hanging high above my head. It was so white and flawless, emitting a soft glow from all four sides. The moon seemed so close that I felt like I could reach out and touch its shining light.

“This is the first time I’ve seen the moon so close. It’s the most beautiful moon I’ve ever seen. I want to hug it immediately because its beauty is indescribable,” I thought to myself.

It was a feeling of worship and admiration that I couldn’t help but feel, like I was in the presence of the great moon god or the mother werewolf. My primal werewolf instincts were awakened, and I began to truly admire Luna as a werewolf.

Shirley let out a howl, and this time I didn’t object. In fact, I wanted to join her. But Leon was with me, and I didn’t want him to think my behavior was ridiculous.

I walked towards the moon, and in the backyard of the castle, a winding river flowed slowly around it. Under the moonlight, it looked like a beautiful silver ribbon covering the river.

Thanks to my werewolf vision, I could see the river flowing towards another mountain range. It was a high peak with a dome-shaped house at the top, and a faint candlelight was visible around it. From a distance, it looked like a shining star standing atop the mountain.

“What’s that?” I pointed to the dim light on the distant mountain peak and asked Leon, “Does someone live there?”

Leon looked in the direction of my finger, his eyes fixed on the mountain peak. He didn’t answer my question immediately, but remained silent for a while before finally giving me an answer.

I quietly waited for his answer with anticipation. Judging from his eyes, it seems that it is not easy to say this answer from his mouth.

Luna! was it a legend about Luna and the black wolf?

I imagined it would be a story about evil and justice.

I remember it when I was very young. My nurse would sit by my bedside and tell me old tales about wolves. Among the tales she told was one about a witch.

Witches are said to have held the highest place among the wolves in the last century. Witches were considered by the werewolves to be the handmaids of the moon god. They are usually women with magical gifts, and in almost every pack there is a witch. They often foretell the future of the pack and heal wounded warriors. But then, among witches, there are dark witches. A witch with the power of evil.

These dark wizards have caused trouble for the wolf race, claiming to be secretly working with the Dark Gods in an attempt to destroy the wolves. Eventually, the witches are destroyed by Beck, the leader of the werewolves. Since then, witches have been regarded as symbols of evil and all women with magical gifts have been executed.

We have not even seen the truth.

So could any of this have anything to do with witches?
