Chapter 153 153
Chapter 153 153
ROBYN
“Spade!” I called him again.
Spade didn’t respond. He didn’t look at me either. He was still shirtless, his
body glistening with sweat. The blood dried on his hairline. He was shaking and his stance was weak, like he was high or drunk, like he wasn’t even there, like he was lost, if it even made sense.
How was it even possible?
The Spade I knew was gone. He never lifted his gaze as if he was too
exhausted, too broke to care, or too terrified to make eye contact.
Two armed men stood behind them, the same scenario as the hotel room, only this time
The time they were guarding Spade as if something ominous was going to happen our lives might just depend on his action.
“What the fuck did you do to my son?” Sean tried to get out of the chair, but had no luck getting off free, just like me, too helpless. His eyes narrowed at Hanna.
“He’s not your son, Sean. You know that.” How did she even know that? And how could this evil woman be so calm? “And he knows that, too. Right, Spade?”
I held my breath as Spade slowly lifted his gaze at Hanna. “Yes.”
I shoved the panic down my throat as I heard his voice. There was no warmth, nor anger, nor emotion in it. Nothing but emotionless brainwash man with a gaze as cold as ice, it made me shiver.
“Spade, look at me!” I called him, and he barely reacted as if he felt nothing for me, as if he didn’t recognize me anymore.
I exhaled in shock. My whole body shook in fear that I might just lose my husband, the fear that I never thought it happen this way.
He looked like a terminator, made of steel, only designed to kill without remorse whatsoever.
No, no, no. This was impossible.
“What did they do to him?” I found myself asking as my heart crushed and
bled.
Hanna smiled proudly at her prized possession. “I broke him.”
I broke him.
Those words echoed in my head like a constant nightmare.
“No. You’re lying.” I shook my head frantically.
“I took him to the place where he was tortured. I showed him the pain and fear as a boy. I showed him who hurt him the most,” Hanna continued in her cold, haunting voice. “Right now, he doesn’t recognize you anymore. His feelings for you are gone.”
“That’s impossible!” Sean yelled. “He’s stronger than you think. You can’t break him.”
“But I just did.” Her red lips curved into an evil smile. “Look at him. He doesn’t care about you anymore. He only listens to me, and he will do as I say.”
“Liar!” I breathed hard as I tried to hold back my tears. I didn’t want to break down before her, even if I felt I was losing this fight and might lose my husband forever. But I’d rather die trying than do nothing to save him. “You don’t know him better than I do.”
“Really? Don’t keep your hopes up, dear.”
“He doesn’t deserve this,” Sean’s voice dropped low. “Let them go, whoever you are. Spade and Robyn don’t deserve this.”
“Why are you doing this, Hanna? Or whoever you are?”
“Who am I doesn’t matter? I am here for a retribution. The Agency killed my husband.”
“So this is what all about? You’re torturing a man who has nothing to do with the agency. Is that even fair?”
“Nothing is fair, my dear. What’s unfair is them killing my husband without a fight. They blew him up to get to me.”
“Because you’re a bad guy, bitch. Maybe you deserve it!”
I gasped. One second, I was talking to her, the next second, my head snapped to the side, and my face stung.
Hanna slapped me and gripped my face, forcing me to look at her. “Say that again, you won’t only feel my palm against your face. I will stab you where you got stabbed before.”
“Leave her alone!” Sean cut in while Spade did nothing. My heart bled that he just stood there, didn’t fight to be brainwashed, if it was even remotely possible. “Just kill me already because if his father finds out his son is missing, you’re in trouble, lady.”
She chuckled. “I sent him an invitation twice to join me, but he turned me down. So did Moses. Son of bitches have too much pride when they could take control of the world in the palm of their hands.”
I snorted. “Is that what’s happening right now, Hanna? Because I don’t see you controlling anything. You’re not even in full control of your behavior. You’re a psychopath, delusional. You just victimized a man who has nothing to do with the death of your husband. And look at you. You’re here torturing us in this abandoned place. What’s this hospital? That you don’t have to do it by yourself, but clearly you’re not in control.”
“This man, you called your husband?” She pointed at Spade, whose gaze was blank. “Exposed us. He is the main reason why we come down to this. He has no idea the damage he’d done.”
I was going to die anyway, so why not pissed her off? “Oh. Are we talking about Abraham? An organization made up of a bunch of bigots and criminals who blackmailed people to do their bidding. So, he’s the crack in the matrix. He outsmarted you. He’s that smart, Hanna. Did you kill Cali?”
“Sorry to burst your bubble, my dear. I didn’t.” She then snapped her fingers, and the walls started falling, revealing to us where we truly were, startling me in my seat, and shocking me to the core.
It was too theatrical.
We weren’t in an abandoned hospital. It was a set, an illusion. She conned us. She probably got that idea from some action movies. How original, but it worked. We believed her.
Damn, she was dedicated and cunning.
As everything became clear. I realized we were in a new, nice building with white walls and floor-to-ceiling windows in broad daylight. So we’d been here since our abduction. By the looks of the sunlight outside, maybe it was midday.
The meeting. It was today.
My heart jumped in my throat. Sean wore the same shock on his face, and so did Spade, but only for a second. Then he went back to an emotionless, dark, twisted, brainwashed man I couldn’t recognize anymore.
Then we were facing the whole bunch of criminals. At least twelve of them were from the list. Yes, I looked at those names online. What was more shocking was that Hariton Laurier was also sitting there among Hanna’s merry band of minions on the long table with everyone else.
“I did not kill her. He did.” She proudly pointed at Hari.
Oh, my God. He also manipulated us, making us believe he didn’t know about his daughter’s tie to Abraham. Now, I knew how they found us. Maybe there was a tracker in that drive.
“He killed his own daughter?” I asked in shock. “Well, isn’t it riveting?”
“She failed to do her task to invite her fiancé to join us. She got caught, exposing some of us. She was a loose end. So it was either she died, or I would kill his children and her father. I commend Hariton for doing the job.”
“What a bunch of losers and murderers, and you’re a narcissist, Hanna.” I looked at her and then at these criminals. “Do you pray to a goat or bow to her as if she’s a god, with small G? You’re all lunatics and psychos.”
They didn’t even react as if they were all deaf. As much as I was terrified, I was also furious. If I died today, then so be it.
“Who are these people, Robyn?” Sean asked.
“They call themselves Abraham, who blackmail people, traffic women for sex trade, and sell drugs. You name it.”
“We’re more than that. We control—”
“You run the world, bitch? The economy? The Internet? Blah blah blah.” I rolled my eyes. “I heard someone said that before, and he’s dead.”
“I’m Abraham.”
