Chapter 152 152
Chapter 152 152
ROBYN
I groaned from a severe headache and soreness in my neck until I remembered something had happened back at the house.
Spade. A sense of terror jolted me up. Something screeched under me, making my heart race.
Why am I stuck? What’s going on? I couldn’t move freely. Panic began to wash over me as things started to register and became clear to me now.
I was tied to a chair, and my wrists were tied behind me with something tight and strong. Zipties. The more I twisted them, the more it burned my skin.
“Help!” My voice muffled. I realized I was gagged, too, the reason why my jaw hurt.
Paranoia began to beat in my chest as I wiggled and struggled to free myself, but my ankles were also tied to the legs of the chair.
Tears welled in my eyes as the familiar scenario repeated itself, only this time, maybe there was no one there to save me.
For a brief moment, I closed my eyes and let the tears roll down my cheeks, and let the sense of hopelessness and pain settle in my chest.
I looked around at an unfamiliar room that smelled of bleach and antiseptic. It looked like a lab or an old operating room with steel and shelves, glass door cabinets, and stainless steel tables.
My throat clogged as I heard sobs and groans. I sucked in air through my nose as my gaze landed on a familiar figure.
Jesus, what did they do to him? God, no!
“Spade!” Nobody could hear me, and I’d never felt so helpless before. My heart broke.
Tears blurry my vision again as I rocked the chair towards his direction. No matter how hard I tried, it didn’t even move an inch. It only made a screeching sound, hurting my ears.
I groaned in frustration until it ended— I fell on the floor. My arms and legs screamed from pain.
Squeezing my eyes shut, my breath came in sobbing gasps. The more I struggled, the more I felt helpless and useless, and the pain around the zip ties worsened.
God, what did I do to deserve this other than fall in love?
At this moment, I was worried more about Spade. What did they do to him? His hands and legs were tied just like mine. He was shirtless and spread like he was about to be sliced open. He was breathing hard, his body heaving, and his limbs shaking. It was too difficult to watch someone you loved in that position, and you were helpless to stop it.
I realized whoever took us put a VR device on him. He must be watching something terrifying, and that was what triggered him. He was murmuring that I couldn’t make it out.
Whatever was going on was a digital or electronic torment, if it was even a thing, a form of psychological torture.
I dragged myself in his direction, even if my skin was peeling off against the tiled floor. We would end up dead anyway. At least he wasn’t alone, and we died together.
Before I could make a move, the thick, heavy metal door swung open. A sudden silence followed. I sensed another danger. My pulse went haywire, and I started to shake.
And then a clicking against the floor followed— footsteps of a confident woman. The first thing I saw was white pants with black Louboutin stilettos.
I lifted my gaze to the red blazer and white silk shirt inside. The more I looked up, the harder my heart pumped.
I hadn’t seen the face, but I felt like my brain brought a terrifying memory. The woman became familiar to me as if we’d met before. She was definitely taller than me, older than me, and that could pass as my mother. She was blonde and screamed sophistication like she had a higher position in society.
Without a word, she then turned in my direction. It all made sense. I began to hyperventilate and fisted my hands when every part of my body shook.
The door swung open again, and two tall men dressed in black threw a man inside the room. My guess, he was kidnapped, too. The man groaned.
“Fix it,” she ordered. That voice was as cold as ice, instantly jarring my memory.
Hanna.
“Your price tag is too high to let you go.”
My breath started wheezing when the two men walked in my direction. I froze in terror. My eyes widened as if I knew what was going to happen next.
“Take off her gag, but make sure she doesn’t scream. If she does, hit her to shut up,” she ordered the two men. It was definitely Hanna.
One man put my chair up without too much effort. I looked up at the man with dark eyes who looked European. I breathed deeply as he pulled the gag off my mouth.
“Please, let me go.”
“Don’t talk or I will slap you.” He gritted his teeth in rage. He was interrupted before he could say another word.
“Robyn?” Someone just called my name. The man they thrown on the floor. Even if the voice was strained in pain, I knew who he was.
“Sean?” I was both relieved and terrified at the same time. No matter how evil he was to Spade, I didn’t wish him any harm. I wished he wasn’t here.
It answered the question of why he was missing. He wasn’t missing anymore. The woman, Hanna, took him, too.
As the men helped him to the chair and tied him as the way they did to me, he turned to me. His face was bruised. His eyes were swollen, and he still managed to ask how I was. “Are you hurt?”
“No.” Tears streamed down my face as I shook my head, but the scary part was about to happen when those men went next to Spade. They took off the VR from him while Hanna did nothing but stand with pride, watching us suffer and fight for our lives.
Spade was staring up at the ceiling, not uttering a word. They released his hands and legs. When Spade tried to punch the second guy, the blond one, he was instantly blocked.
“Look at him.” Hanna chuckled.
“Why are you doing this? What did I do to you?”
Hanna turned to me. Her arms crossed over her chest. “You did nothing, dear.” Now I caught her accent, almost like Welsh. “You’re merely collateral because that man over there likes you, and you make an easy target, a liability.”
“Leave her alone,” Sean said, dragging his breath.
“Of course, I will,” Hanna replied.
“Let us go, Hanna.”
“Or what, Robyn? I don’t know how you are so lucky. I tried to kidnap you twice, but you always got away.” She came close to me. “Not the third time, though.”
“So it was you? Not Cali.”
“Oh, she made the order. She hated you until her last breath.”
I breathed deeply when anger boiled inside me. “You’re not gonna get away with this.”
“Oh, I will,” she said confidently. “Before I walk out of this room, one of you will be dead or the three of you will. And of course, one will pull the trigger.”
I swallowed hard as horror seized my throat to function.
“Let go of me!”
I tore my gaze from Hanna to Spade. “Spade!”
