let her go
let her go
Theo’s P.O.V. (Continued)
I was about to lash out again when I realized that we had an audience around us. I took a few deep breaths, keeping my eyes closed for a good few moments.
The silence stretched around me, but I could feel their emotions.
Curiosity…. Fear…. Surprise….
I slowly opened my eyes, calmer than usual.
Natalie was still looking at me fearfully, but she had gained her confidence back, as her back and neck were straight.
“Get some facts straight, Natalie.” I addressed her calmly, standing near the bench, my face devoid of emotions.
“One, I will never take a chosen mate.” I announced and smirked coldly when her eyes widened in shock and disbelief.
“Two, I will wait for my fated mate to accept me as I have already found her,” I announced the second fact, and gasps filled the place.
Nathan sighed aloud in resignation, and Natalie’s eyes almost bulged out, color draining from her face.
“Three, you are always like a sister to me. So, I suggest you not have any absurd ideas about me. You will only get disappointment and heartbreak in the end. My mate is perfect in every way,” I clarified the most crucial point here.
After stating and clarifying everything, I walked out of the training room without glancing back.
I didn’t need to because none of them mattered to me.
The one who mattered to me the most is giving me an immense headache.
I was still fuming about the fact that she wanted to go away from me.
“If you want to talk about what I said to your sister, don’t bother,” I said to Nathan coldly, who was walking a little behind me.
“You know me, Theo. She is 21, mature enough to face the consequences of her own decisions.” He replied with a little retort, but this put me at ease.
“Thanks,” I muttered and kept on walking towards the pack house.
“You said that Rhea will leave for more than three months, right?” I asked him when I realized something. My mind was much calmer now.
“Right.” He replied immediately and jogged a little to catch up with me.
“Then who will take over her duties?” I asked him further and he huffed.
“It should be me and Natalie.” He replied and I furrowed my brows.
“Technically, I and Natalie have been taking training under her for more than ten months. Most of the duties that she is handling fall under Beta’s duties. I and Natalie are supposed to take over the duties from her on the day we will take over the Beta position from our father, giving more time to us to hone our skills, but there are also some exceptions.” He replied and I furrowed my brows, waiting for him to continue.
“Like if she finds her mate somewhere else than our pack, or she decides to leave the pack and stay in the city, taking care of the company’s matter there, which is her original plan.” He explained and I groaned in frustration.
She was just 19, and yet she had planned everything out.
“And we are nowhere in her plans,” Knight grumbled, his anger directed at me.
I felt guilty, but there is no way that I would let her go away from me.
“Let her go, Theo.” Nathan whispered after some time, and I snapped my head towards him, coming out of my trance.
“What did you say?” I asked him through my teeth while stopping abruptly. He sighed and stopped in front of me, looking at me calmly.
“I don’t know, Theo, how can you think that …. After… after what you did to her, she will never forgive you. Your stupidity killed her parents, and she almost died. Put yourself in her shoes and tell me if you forgive that person,” he asked calmly, trying hard to hide the accusation in his statement, but it was as sharp as a knife.
I couldn’t even utter a word; I just glared hard at him.
He sighed again and took a step towards him, putting his hand on my arm in the process.
“Listen to me, brother. I am your beta and your best friend. My loyalty lies to you, but this is also something where I can’t defend you or stay on the same page as you. You made her feel inferior when you told her that you don’t want her as your mate because she is an omega. She was underage, couldn’t feel a thing towards you and yet you made her go through the worst pain, and her parents’ death was like the last nail in her coffin.” Nathan tried to make me understand Rhea’s perspective, but it only made me feel the worst pain that I had ever experienced.
It's not like I didn’t understand these things.
Of course, I did.
During my stay in the Alpha’s Academy, that same scene played at the back of my head like a broken record whenever I closed my eyes.
“You are only tormenting her more by not accepting her rejection, and after what Knight did,” he continued but paused while looking at me accusingly.
The silence stretched between us, but he removed his hand from my arm and looked in the other direction.
His jaw was still clenched, and he had his hands resting on his waist now.
I ran my fingers through my hair, looking up at the sky. The sun had already risen, clearing the residual darkness of the night, but the darkness inside my heart had no end.
Yeah, I made a mistake. I threw away my happiness and ruined her life.
Yeah, I was a sinner who killed innocent people because I was scared of being ridiculed by others.
I am an alpha, but I admitted that I was afraid of failures because of the high expectations glued to the word ALPHA.
Rhea and her parents were innocent but they paid the price of my fear.
I sighed and slowly closed my eyes when I felt a pressure at the back of my mind.
“Yes, Dad?” I asked him after opening the mind-link with him.
“Where are you?” he asked me, his voice serious.
“Coming back to the pack house. What happened?” I asked him worriedly.
“Freshen up and come to my office in twenty minutes. Bring Nathan with you,” he instructed me and before I could ask anything more, he cut off the mind-link.
“Let’s go,” I urged Nathan and jogged towards the pack house. I only had twenty minutes.
“Dad has called us to his office in twenty minutes,” I told him further before he could even open his mouth.
“Why?” he still asked and I shrugged my shoulders only.
