Chapter 49

I made my my way straight to the lawyers office, I was welcomed properly and led inside. She looked at me and welcomed me with a smile, I hope the lawyer and Martha aren’t working together, I hope my instinctions are wrong.

“Welcome miss Vivian” she said her smile bright.

I smiled “I am sorry to bother you, I am here to accept and sign everything that was given to me by grandfather Edward”.

She leaned back in her chair, rolling her pen with a little smirk on her face.

“Everything?” She asked

I nodded

She gazed at me, with the little smirk on her face, I wonder what was wrong.

“You are not the type to be interested in all that, why do you want to accept it If I may ask” she said

I smiled and adjusted my chair, leaning forward to her on the table

“Do I have to explain why? Did he also tell you to ask us why we are going to accept what he gave us?”.

She laughed aloud and brought out some papers, I glanced through it all and could see it was a real paper regarding my ownership of everything given to me, I decided to be cautious because I could be  betrayed even by the lawyer whom grandfather trusted. She brought out the mansion ownership papers, but to my surprise grandfather had already changed his name to mine.

“Martha wouldn’t let me in the mansion” I finally spoke up

The lawyer smiled “ofcourse she cant, no one would easily accept that, the papers are with you now. You can report to the police and chase them out of the mansion” she said.

"No, I don't want to chase them out of the mansion," I said, trying to sound calm. "I have been maltreated in that mansion by Martha several times. It will be too easy for me to chase them out of the mansion, and besides, she is still Kian's mother, no matter what."

The lawyer smiled, her eyes glinting with understanding. "No doubt, your grandfather left you so much," she said, her voice dripping with something I couldn't quite decipher.

I glared at her, lost for words. I didn't know if that sounded like a compliment or something else. Was she implying that I was only getting the inheritance because of my relationship with Kian? Or was she simply stating the obvious?

"Excuse me?" I said, trying to keep my tone neutral.

The lawyer leaned forward, her smile growing wider. "I mean, grandfather must have seen something special in you to leave you so much. You must have been very close to him."

I nodded, feeling a pang of sadness.

"Yes, we were close," I said, trying to keep my emotions in check.

The lawyer nodded, her expression serious. "Be prepared for whatever is coming your way, I know Martha.

I nodded, but I wondered why she hates and thinks of Martha very badly or maybe Grandfather already told her few things about us.

“Thank you for everything” I said and I made my way towards the door, as I gazed at the pictures on the wall, I couldn’t help but feel I have seen that picture somewhere but i couldn’t where and how.

“Who is that? Sorry!” I asked pointing at the picture on the wall, the pictures looked very old but I could remember it.

She gazed at the window and smiled “That’s my mom but unfortunately she is late” she said her expressions changed

“Oh, I am sorry for bringing up such a painful matter” I said.

She smiled “Its nothing”.

As I walked away from the lawyer's office, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to the story than what I knew. I got into my car and started driving, trying to recall where I had seen that picture before. And then it hit me - it was in my grandfather's room, when he was telling me his stories.

I remembered sitting in his room, listening to him talk about his son, and all the adventures he had when he was young. But he never mentioned the picture. I racked my brain, trying to remember if he had ever said anything about it, but nothing came to mind.

But then I remembered something else - I had seen the picture in my grandfather's diary. I had stumbled upon it one day while exploring his room, and I had been curious about it. But I never asked him about it, and he never mentioned it to me.

I wondered why he had kept it a secret and he didnt explain that part to me when he was explaining everything. Was it something important? Something he didn't want me to know?

I stepped down from the car and walked back into the Lawyers office, determined to discover the truth.

She looked up at me, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "I didn't expect you to come back so soon," she said. "What's on your mind?"

I took a deep breath, trying to phrase my question delicately. "I am sorry, Lawyer, I came back to ask you some questions. This question is a bit personal, I mean it's your personal life, but I seriously need to find out about something."

She nodded, her expression open and encouraging. "Go ahead, ask away."

"Where were you raised and brought up?" I asked, trying to sounf cool and calm despite my growing curiosity.

She leaned back in her chair, a faraway look in her eyes. "I was raised in a small town, a few hours from here," she said. "It's a beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and rivers. I loved growing up there."

I sensed a hint of nostalgia in her voice, and my curiosity grew. "What was your childhood like?" I asked, trying to dig deeper.

I nodded, trying to piece together the fragments of her life. "And what about your parents?" I asked. "What were they like?"

Her expression turned serious, and she leaned forward, her eyes locked on mine. "My parents were good people," she said.

But I knew she was lying

“Who are you to grandfather Edward ?” I asked

She paused for a while and gazed at me, she suddenly smiled.

“Why are you questioning me?” she asked her gazed focused on me.
