Chapter 40
I suddenly woke up when I heard the scream of Aliana. I slowly walked down the bed because I wasnt feeling too well either. John rushed out so he could help them.
As i walked downstairs my water suddenly broke, everyone gazed at me.
John was lost and didnt know what to do, he rushed towards me and held me very tight.
As we pulled up to the hospital, Andrew turned to John and asked, "Which way dad?"
John waved his hand towards the car park direction and replied, "My hospital, Diana get the car keys." He yelled.
I was sitting in the same car with Aliana, and we exchanged a nervous glance.
When we arrived at the hospital, we were greeted by a team of medical professionals who led us to a large room filled with various exercise equipment. We were asked to run and perform a few exercises, which seemed strange to me. I couldn't understand why we were being put through this.
Few hours later, I woke up to the sound of gentle beeping and the soft glow of hospital lights. As I slowly opened my eyes, I saw John sitting beside me, a warm smile on his face. Aliana was also lying beside me, fast asleep.
"Hey babe, how are you feeling?" John asked, his voice gentle.
I tried to speak, but my voice was hoarse from the labor. I cleared my throat and tried again. "I'm...I'm okay, I think."
John's smile widened. "It's a baby girl," he said, his eyes shining with joy.
My expression suddenly changed from confusion to shock. "A girl?" I asked, looking at John with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
John looked at me, confused. "Yes, a beautiful baby girl. Why are you looking so surprised?"
I sat up, my heart racing. "What do you mean a girl? The scan clearly said it was a boy. So why did I give birth to a baby girl?"
John's expression changed from joy to concern. "What's wrong?" he asked, looking at me with worry.
I felt a wave of fear wash over me. "Babe, the scan said it was a boy. I was prepared for a boy. Why is this happening?"
John didn't understand what was wrong. He looked at me like I was overreacting. "It's just a mistake, it happens. Our baby girl is healthy and beautiful, that's all that matters."
But I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Why did the scan say it was a boy? And why did I give birth to a girl? I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down.
Aliana stirred beside me, waking up from her sleep.
As Aliana stirred beside me, Diana, the nurse, spoke up. "You're awake, Aliana. Look, your baby boy is here."
But Aliana's expression didn't change to one of joy and excitement as I expected. Instead, she looked confused and scared. Her eyes darted around the room, as if searching for something or someone.
I could feel the air in the room grow thick with tension. Something was wrong.
"Aliana, what's wrong?" Diana asked, holding Aliana's hands.
Aliana's voice trembled. "But...but l” she stammered but Diana intervened.
“Hold your baby Aliana, Congratulations” Diana said smiling.
Aliana didn’t say a word but instead she held her baby in her arms.
As the tension in the room continued to build, I couldn't help but feel exhausted and tired. The emotional rollercoaster of the past few hours had taken its toll on me. Just as I was about to collapse, the doctor walked in, a calm and reassuring presence in the midst of chaos.
"Good timing, Doctor," I said, relief etched on my face. "Can I be discharged?."
The doctor smiled and nodded. "Of course”.
