Chapter 39

MIRABEL POV

As we stepped out of Diana’s room, I felt very angry and disappointed. Why would the personal maid I hired be working as a cleaner for Diana.

I hissed and faced Louis

“How many times have I told you not to work for anybody except me? I hired you for myself not anyone else, do you understand?”. I spat

“Yes ma’am” she said her voice barely above a whisper.

“Now go and change your dress back to normal, clean up yourself and get something to eat, anytime anyone bothers you. Come and tell me immediately” I said.

Louis immediately rushed back to her room so she could clean herself and get dressed but I still wasnt feeling better after what I saw in Diana’s room, I feel like she will still do more than she did today but i am going to stop her.

“Time for dinner” One of the maids said then everyone started coming out of their rooms.

I took a sit beside John, but wasnt really feeling hungry but I decided to try and eat something . Then Diana suddenly stopped eating as her cutleries made sound which made us gaze at her.

“John...” she said “Let’s at least try and have some pictures together, you, my son and his wife”. She said.

I smirked, this woman wants to start something at the dining again.

John looked at me but I care less.

“Common, its just a family picture” Diana said again.

As I sat at the dining table, I didn't utter a word, instead, I kept eating, trying to avoid engaging with Diana. But I could sense her eyes on me, trying to provoke me into saying something.

"John..." she called again, her voice dripping with sweetness. "I need a dress for the pictures we are going to take, and the day is scheduled to be in daytime."

As we sat in the dinning room, Diana kept discussing about the familt picture she wanted, Aliana suddenly gazed at me with a fake concerned expression. "You stay at home, since you are pregnant. You can't stress yourself," she said, trying to sound caring.

I smiled sweetly, knowing exactly what she was trying to do. "You are also pregnant, Aliana. You should also stay home and not stress yourself," I replied, defeating her with her own words.

Aliana's face fell, and she looked taken aback by my response. We both gazed at each other, the tension between us palpable.

But before things could escalate further, Diana suddenly intervened. "No, Aliana has to be there since her husband, my son, is going to be there," she said, trying to justify Aliana's presence.

I smiled again, ready with a comeback. "John doesn't have to be there since I, his wife, won't be going," I said, defeating them again.

The room fell silent, with all eyes on me. I could sense their frustration and anger, but I didn't back down.

As the silence stretched on, I could feel the weight of their gaze on me. But I refused to look away, instead meeting their eyes with a calm and confident stare.

Aliana followed close behind, her face red with anger. I watched them go, feeling a sense of satisfaction and relief.

As I sat at the dining table, I suddenly felt a wave of nausea wash over me. The food that had once looked so appetizing now seemed unappealing. I lost my appetite and stood up from the table, feeling a sense of unease.

"Finish your food, Mirabel," John said, his gaze fixed on me with concern.

But I couldn't shake off the feeling of discomfort. "No, I lost my appetite," I said, trying to brush it off as I walked upstairs.

John followed close behind me, his eyes never leaving mine. "Is everything okay?" he asked, his voice soft with worry.

I nodded, trying to reassure him. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired, that's all."

But John knew me too well. He could see right through my facade. "Mirabel, what's going on?" he asked, his voice firm but gentle.

I sighed, feeling a sense of frustration. "I don't know, John. I just feel so overwhelmed. With the pregnancy, and Diana's constant meddling, and Aliana's fake smiles...I just feel like I'm losing myself in all of this."

John's expression softened, and he pulled me into a warm embrace. "You're not alone, Mirabel. I'm here for you. We'll get through this together."

As he held me, I felt a sense of comfort wash over me, Even if I have never forgotten about how bad he makes decisions in the house. I still cant deny that I need his support.

As we walked upstairs, John held my hand, his grip warm and reassuring. I looked up at him, searching for answers in his eyes. He seemed to sense my unease and spoke up again.

"I see you aren't comfortable in the mansion anymore," he said, his voice laced with concern.

I smiled wryly, rubbing my stomach. "If I can't bear it, I will leave," I said, trying to sound confident.

But John's expression turned serious. "You can't leave," he said, his voice firm. "Stay here in the mansion. I will make amends."

I raised an eyebrow, surprised by his words. "What do you mean?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

John sighed, his eyes scanning the hallway as if searching for the right words. "I only accepted her in the mansion because of her sickness, I can’t just let her go like that”. He said

"Okay," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "But do you realize you are putting me and the baby in greater danger?."

“They are not capable of doing you any harm” he said.

I smiled “I already told you right, if anything happens to me or the baby. I will hold you accountable for it”. I said

As the night wore on, I felt my eyelids growing heavy, weighed down by the emotional toll of the day's events. I snuggled deeper into the couch, trying to find a comfortable spot, but it was no use. I was exhausted.

"John, I am going to head to bed, i am exhausted" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

John immediately got up from his seat and walked over to me. "Okay, Let me help you," he said, offering his arm.

I took it gratefully, and he led me to our bedroom. As we walked, I felt my legs trembling beneath me, my body weak with fatigue.

Once we reached the bedroom, John helped me onto the bed and climbed in beside me. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close, and I felt a sense of safety wash over me.

I felt my eyes growing heavy, my body relaxing into his embrace. As I drifted off to sleep,

As I slept, I felt John's arms tighten around me, his body curved around mine like a shield. I knew that he was watching over me, keeping me safe from harm.

And when I woke up the next morning, I felt refreshed, renewed. John was still beside me, his eyes watching me with a gentle smile.

"Good morning babe," he whispered, his voice low and husky.

I smiled back, feeling my heart fill with love for this man who had become my rock, my shelter in the storm. "Good morning," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
