Chapter 404 It's Not Great to Have a Husband, It's Great to Have Someone Serve You
Raymond said, resting his chin on his hand as he looked at Michael. "Michael, what do you think would happen if Ms. Smith found out what you're thinking? Would she come after you first?"
"You won't let her know," Michael said with certainty.
"Why? What makes you so sure?"
"Because building your own life requires a high price, and what you lack most right now is money. Right now, the person with the most cash flow in Emerald City is William. Thalia has a good relationship with William, plus she's got billions of dollars herself. You want to get on her good side - even if you can't use her to get close to William, you can at least use Thalia's connections, right?"
"After all, there are plenty of opportunities in Emerald City."
Michael saw right through Raymond's thoughts.
"We're both people who had to take a step back to survive. Why make things difficult for each other? Raymond, honestly, we're the same kind of people - both abandoned by our families, forced to make our own way. In this situation, we should support each other, not tear each other down."
"Why is it that when those firstborn sons from wealthy families sit together, they can exchange benefits, but we can't?"
Raymond looked at Michael. "So, you're inviting me to join forces with you?"
"Pretty much."
"Who's calling?"
Thalia came out after her shower, feeling lazy all over, drying her wet hair as she walked toward William.
After making love, they both had that relaxed vibe.
William was leaning against the headboard, smoking a post-sex cigarette. Thalia came out of the bath all flushed, holding a bottle of body lotion and handing it to William.
The phone on the nightstand kept ringing. She leaned over to look.
No number saved.
"Who is it? That's the fifth call," William said, putting out his cigarette with one hand and taking the body lotion from Thalia with the other, turning on the room's air circulation system to clear the smoke.
Thalia leaned back on the bed and put her feet on William's lap.
She watched as the man squeezed out some lotion and smoothly applied it to her thighs.
Thalia sighed contentedly. "Marriage is so great."
"Having a husband is so great."
"It's not having a husband that's great, it's having someone to take care of you," William said, cutting to the chase.
Thalia leaned back on the bed, sighing. "No wonder men like to have so many women. I'd want that too. Having different people warm my bed every day, different people taking care of me every day - how comfortable would that be!"
William glanced at her.
This was Thalia - just moments ago in bed she kept saying how good it felt, like she wanted to die under him, and now that it's over she's already thinking about finding other men.
"Only broken cars need spare tires."
"Are you a broken car?"
William's cool remark, delivered as a question, made Thalia a bit annoyed.
"Are you a scumbag? Just now in bed, you were so sweet, and now you're saying this to me."
William heard Thalia's words and shot back, "Are you a scumbag? Just now in bed, you were enjoying yourself so very much, and right after, you're thinking about finding other men."
Thalia asked, "Did I say that?"
"Didn't you? Willing to be taken care of by different people, how comfortable. If those words came out of my mouth, you'd definitely kill me."
"I wouldn't. Don't make things up. I'm not that violent."
"You..." William was about to say something when the phone rang again, and he got irritated.
People always said a post-sex cigarette made people relax. But tonight, all those phone calls just made his head spin.
"Who is it?" William asked.
Thalia heard the irritation in William's voice and looked at the number. Though he hadn't saved it, she knew it was Raymond's number.
"Raymond."
"What does he want with you?"
"I'd like to know too."
William said simply, "Answer it."
Thalia picked up the phone. Raymond was in a private room somewhere.
Though the sound wasn't clear, she could vaguely tell that Raymond must be at a place like Eclipse Lounge right now.
"You finally answered my call. If I didn't know where you lived, I'd definitely be at your door by now."
"What? Is your wife about to give birth?"
Raymond was speechless.
He wished.
"Where would I get a wife?" he said.
"If your wife isn't about to give birth, why are you calling me so urgently?"
"Ms. Smith, I was just worried you hadn't saved my number. I figured if I only called once and you missed it, what would I do?"
Thalia scratched her head, not really wanting to talk to him anymore - waste of time.
Playing mind games with Raymond wasn't as fun as teasing William. If William was in a good mood, he might even transfer her a few hundred thousand dollars.
"If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Did something happen to you today?" As soon as Raymond said this, Thalia's guard went up.
"Speak clearly."
"If this is what I think it is, what happened to you today was definitely Sean's doing. If you just investigate randomly, you won't find anything. But if you look into it with Sean in mind, you'll definitely find some clues. Everyone in Regal City knows that whenever Michael contacts someone, Sean will definitely go after that person. A few days ago, when Sean wanted to deal with Michael, you happened to be there. If his people saw you, this is one hundred percent Sean's doing."
Thalia glanced at William. She saw him pull out a tissue to wipe his hands, then grab a magazine he'd been reading and write something with a pen: [Ask him what he wants]
"What do you want?"
"Can I ask for something? It's just a small favor between friends. After all, compared to Sean, I like you better."
As a man, hearing another man say such things to his wife, William's eyes couldn't hide the murderous intent.
He picked up the pen and quickly wrote another sentence.
Thalia looked at it and understood. "Thirty minutes. I'm giving you thirty minutes to think about what you want. Think carefully. After this time, if you ask me for something later, don't blame me for not giving it to you."
