Chapter 405 Definitely Going to Wait for You in Bed
Listening to the sudden, hollow silence of the disconnected call, Raymond slowly lowered the phone from his ear. The absolute nerve of the situation was so infuriatingly absurd that a harsh sound escaped his lips. He was genuinely almost laughing from the blinding force of his anger.
Thirty minutes? That wasn't even enough time for him to catch his breath, and she wanted him to figure out what he wanted? Was this a joke?
Wait, the few times he'd dealt with Thalia before, she'd never been this demanding, had she?
Could someone be coaching her?
"What's wrong?"
"She's giving me 30 minutes to decide what I want, or the offer expires."
Michael frowned when he heard this.
"Makes sense. You're from Regal City, offering her benefits out of the blue—of course she's going to wonder if you have an agenda."
"Just tell her directly what you want." After speaking, Michael opened the car door and got out, not lingering around Raymond.
Sean's people were watching him now. If he got too close to Raymond, it wouldn't do either of them any good.
Thalia pulled her legs back, casually tossed her phone aside, and looked at William. "What do you think he'll ask for?"
"He won't ask for anything." William grabbed a napkin to wipe the grease off his hands, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it in the trash.
"Right, someone like Raymond has held back and endured so much—he's way better at pretending than Michael."
"If he wants to overthrow the Carter family, he definitely needs help. Making demands now would only get him some material things. With his brain, he'll definitely choose not to ask for anything right now. Even though I said the offer expires, the favor he did me today still exists, even if it doesn't carry much weight."
"Whether I'm willing to help later might just depend on my mood."
Thalia analyzed Raymond's psychology.
She had to admit, William had exceptional skills when it came to reading people.
A sentence or two could flip her position from passive to active.
And make it impossible for people to refuse.
The person offering benefits for free became the bad guy.
Interesting.
Right now, Raymond was either racking his brain trying to figure out what to ask for, or cursing up a storm.
He did Thalia a favor, but if she refused, it would probably just make her more suspicious.
As Thalia spoke, she patted the spot next to her, gesturing for William to come sit.
Once he sat down, she stretched her neck to look. "How did you get to be so cunning?"
"Are you insulting me or complimenting me?"
"Depends on the situation. Right now, it's a compliment." Thalia hooked her arm around William's, her delicate, radiant face freshly washed, eyebrows still damp, long hair loose as she nuzzled against him absentmindedly, her full chest rubbing against his arm.
The soft sensation was like a ball of cotton tickling him.
William glanced sideways at her chest. The moment his gaze lingered, Thalia caught his look.
"What are you looking at, pervert?"
"You're my wife. How does looking at you make me a pervert?" William pushed Thalia's arm away and stood up from the couch.
"I'm going to take a shower."
"Carry me," Thalia opened her arms, looking at him.
William didn't think anything of it. He actually enjoyed it when Thalia acted cute. "Where to?"
"To bed, of course. I'm all clean now, so obviously I'm going to wait for you in bed."
Thalia's flirtatious words went straight to William's heart.
Carrying Thalia, he stopped about 3 feet from the bed, looking down at her, gazing at the woman's pure, flawless face, his tone flat and somewhat restrained. "Didn't I just take good care of you?"
"You did."
"Then what do you mean by seducing me?"
"It's a habit. I like seducing you, is that okay?"
"Not happy about it? Don't regret it when I start seducing other men someday."
"Ah! William..."
Hearing Thalia's outrageous words, William had no emotional reaction left. He simply threw her onto the bed. It wouldn't hurt—at most she'd just be a bit annoyed afterward.
...
After weighing the pros and cons for a long time, Raymond was about to call Thalia back.
But just as he picked up his phone, before he could make the call, Elowen came charging over.
She stood by the car, banging on his window, looking fierce enough to kill him.
Though Raymond was annoyed, he still had to deal with Elowen.
After all, he needed Elowen to help him maintain this superficial relationship. Without Elowen, the Carter family would just find him another woman.
"What is it?"
"I knew you'd be here," Elowen looked at the man sitting in the car, her face showing no kindness.
"When are you ever going to stop being so overbearing? When will you stop humiliating us like this?"
"Elowen, if you come looking for me like this every time, you know what? I can make it so you never see me again. You're an adult—can't you act like one? Why do you always rant like a lunatic? If you learned even a little bit from Eleanor, you wouldn't be like this."
That day, Eleanor was having dinner with Elowen and some elders the Mitchell family used to know at a private restaurant. Coming out, she happened to spot Raymond's beat-up Volkswagen parked by the road.
Elowen recognized it immediately and insisted on coming over.
Eleanor knew nothing good would come of those two meeting—embarrassment was the least of it; they could even end up with a death on their hands. She'd just seen the elders off and was walking over to warn Elowen when she heard Raymond's words.
"If you learned even a little bit from Eleanor, you wouldn't be like this."
No wonder Elowen always picked fights with her after seeing Raymond. Turned out the problem was the man's damn mouth. Now she knew.
Eleanor laughed bitterly, walked over, and knocked on the car roof, one hand on top, the other in her trench coat pocket. "Learn what from me?"
"I was wondering why Elowen always fights with me after seeing you. Turns out you've been driving a wedge between us."
Raymond hadn't expected Eleanor to be there too. Hearing this, his heart tightened. "Eleanor, what are you talking about? Am I that kind of person?"
Eleanor smirked. "Aren't you?"
"No!" Instinctively, Raymond wanted to drive away and reached for the car key.
He could handle Elowen since she was brainless, but Eleanor was different. This woman was indeed like Thalia—sisters with the same ruthless personality.
Eleanor could tell at a glance that Raymond wanted to run. She didn't try to stop him.
Raymond had just started the car and was about to hit the gas when a black Bentley pulled up right in front of him.
Wasn't that Eleanor's car?
"Want to run? Go ahead! I'll watch you try."
