Chapter 308 There Will Be a Rival in Love
Steven coming to see William probably means trouble. Otherwise, he wouldn't have kept refusing to leave despite repeated requests.
After hanging up the phone, Thalia stood by the bed, lost in thought for a while.
Worry showed on her face. The scheming and plotting among wealthy families was nothing unusual, but when it involved powerful clans, things got tricky.
"Why did we tell Thalia about the Jimenez family's business?" Luca was a bit confused. After all, compared to the Jimenez family, Thalia wasn't exactly a close friend to them.
By doing this, Gregory was basically choosing Thalia over Michael.
To outsiders, Michael's value definitely exceeded Thalia's.
Gregory picked up his glass and took a sip of water to ease the alcohol. "Between Michael and Thalia, who do you think has better character?"
Luca fell silent. The answer was obvious - Thalia.
On the surface, Michael seemed like a castaway abandoned by the Jimenez family, but in reality, he was quite good at scheming for himself.
Compared to Thalia, he wasn't as straightforward.
"Go find out who the Jimenez family's eldest daughter's son is." He wanted to see exactly who this person was that even the Regal City Jimenez family looked down upon.
"Is he even still alive? Even if Michael doesn't make a move, the other Jimenez family members won't let him live, right?"
Luca thought to himself that in this kind of obvious fight over family assets, there was no way they'd let the person come back.
Halfway through muttering, Luca suddenly thought of something and turned to look at Gregory in surprise. "Could Michael have found his way to Thalia because Thalia has connections to that person from the Jimenez family? Michael can't find the person, so he's trying a different approach?"
Gregory glanced at Luca. "Not completely stupid."
"Oh no, we're going to have a rival."
At a private café in Emerald City, Kurt looked at the middle-aged man sitting across from him, his mind recalling the few times they'd met.
"Mr. Lowe."
Stefan nodded. "Pardon the intrusion. I actually wanted to meet with Ms. Carter."
"She's not available. I'll have to do."
Zephyrine wasn't in good shape, and Kurt had basically cut off all opportunities for her to meet with outsiders. He'd thought recently it was just some people from Emerald City coming around, but he didn't expect someone from the Regal City Jimenez family. This kind of going over heads shouldn't be about finding the Carter family, and then having the Carter family give Zephyrine instructions?
Stefan looked slightly surprised. "Is Ms. Carter unwell?"
"Sorry, it's not convenient to discuss. If you have business, please speak directly. We'll help if we can."
"Then I'll be frank." Stefan poured him a cup of coffee. "I want to meet Mr. Brown. I'd like you to make the connection..."
Kurt's coffee cup hit the table with a thud.
"You want to meet..." Kurt asked with confusion.
The other continued, "Mr. Brown from the Celestia Group."
"Sorry, I can't help with that."
"Aren't you and Mr. Brown good friends in business?"
"In business, there are only partners with mutual interests, never friends."
"Mr. Brown and I aren't at the right time to meet. If you want me to make the connection, I can only apologize. If you come to me now, even if I make the connection, it will only bring you harm, not benefit."
The meaning was clear - can't help, no way around it.
Stefan was skeptical and wanted to continue, but Kurt's expression and manner didn't seem like he was lying.
After weighing it several times, he came to a conclusion. "In that case, about our meeting today..."
"Don't worry, we never met today."
"Thank you."
Kurt left the café. Just as he came downstairs, he saw a familiar figure around the corner.
A scantily dressed female celebrity came out of another private room. As she closed the door, laughter and chatter from inside the room reached the hallway.
As soon as Nora turned around, she saw Kurt standing at the stairway.
It had been so long that she'd almost forgotten what happened before. Life had been too comfortable lately. The suffocating pressure that Kurt and Zephyrine brought seemed to have escaped from her life.
Nora steadied herself and spoke nervously. "Mr. Lowe..."
Kurt stared at her. From the sounds coming from the room behind her, he could tell there were both men and women inside. For people like them in the entertainment industry, chaos was normal.
The man withdrew his gaze, glanced at her, and walked away.
As if even speaking a word to her would taint him.
"What's wrong?" Linda heard a noise at the door. She opened it and came out to see Nora leaning against the wall, her face pale, gasping for breath.
"Nothing. I saw Kurt."
Linda was startled. "You ran into him?"
She knew all about those things. Since Kurt hadn't come looking for them during this time, they thought the matter had passed. They didn't expect to run into him in this kind of setting today. Was it a blessing or a curse?
"Yeah!"
"What did he say?"
"Nothing."
If saying nothing already made her like this, Nora could hardly imagine what she'd be like if he said something.
"Don't scare yourself. Big shots like them are busy with important matters every day. They have mountains of things to handle. They can't be bothered to fuss with us common folk at the bottom. Think positive."
Nora nodded and steadied her emotions. "I'm going to the restroom."
Linda watched her leave before going back into the room.
The private room door had just closed when two more figures came down from the second floor.
Stefan looked toward the restroom, his eyes serious.
"Doesn't everyone say that Mr. Lowe and Mrs. Lowe have a great relationship? Who is this girl?"
Stefan heard the question from the person beside him, paused, and said nothing.
Nora.
Wasn't she the person they were looking for?
So she was involved with both William and Kurt?
"Ms. Adams, our boss would like you to come with us."
Nora had just come out of the restroom when she was stopped. "Who's your boss?"
"Ms. Adams, you'll know when you get there."
Seeing them in suits, Nora didn't dare refuse. After all, Emerald City was full of big shots. If she offended one, it would only bring her harm, no benefit.
The first person she thought of was Kurt.
But this thought stopped when she saw who it was.
"You're looking for me?"
"I want to ask you some things."
Nora laughed bitterly. "What makes you think I'll answer just because you ask?"
Even if Stefan wasn't the head of a powerful family, he'd grown up in one. After serving the Jimenez family for so many years, and with the Jimenez family's deep background, what hadn't he seen?
"You can certainly choose not to answer my questions, but you need to think about whether you can handle the consequences of not answering."
