Chapter 309 Was I Annoying You? I Was Loving You!
"As far as I know, Ms. Adams, you're not exactly a top star in the entertainment industry, and you don't have any wealthy family background to back you up. Since when do people from high society have to watch your mood just to ask you a simple question?"
"Has family background been downgraded, or has the status of actors been elevated?"
If this woman had any connection with William, Stefan would show her some respect, no matter what, and would even be polite. But right now, this woman had absolutely nothing to do with William, so who was he being polite for?
Did she deserve his courtesy?
Nora's face turned deathly pale at Stefan's words.
Her hands trembled at her sides. "To you people, those of us without family backgrounds are just ants?"
"You know it very well, don't you?" Stefan sat in the car and just threw her a glance. Nora looked back, her face terrifyingly pale.
His disdain and arrogance were like sharp swords stabbing at Nora's self-esteem.
Seeing that Nora stopped struggling, the driver beside them opened the other door and gestured for her to get in.
Nora reluctantly got in the car.
She spilled everything about what happened between William and Kurt, but when it came to matters involving herself, she glossed over the details.
After all, this kind of thing wasn't something glorious for either the man or herself.
"You can get out now." After learning what happened, Stefan ordered her to leave.
Nora didn't linger and pushed the door open without hesitation.
...
"Thalia, what's wrong? Didn't sleep well?" Harper asked.
Thalia got up early in the morning, looking listless, propping her head up at the dining table, seriously questioning why she had to get up for this breakfast just for the sake of the so-called mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship.
"A little bit!" She cleared her throat and responded to Harper.
Fallon happened to bring up some porridge, and seeing Thalia like this, laughed. "Is Mrs. Brown having insomnia because Mr. Brown isn't here?"
Thalia was stunned and was about to refute.
Harper smiled. "Seeing how well you two get along, your dad and I can rest easy. We were worried that William's cold personality might cause conflicts between you two living together, but it seems we were overthinking it."
Thalia said nothing.
Harper added, "William is also pitiful. He lost his real mother when he was young, and his dad raised him. When I was colleagues with him, I had already met William - well-behaved, sensible, with a maturity beyond his years. I thought it was due to the lack of maternal love in his childhood. Now it's good. Seeing you two doing well makes us all happy. If he ever bullies you, tell me. Even though I'm his stepmother, I still have some say."
Thalia thought, 'What? Getting all sentimental this early in the morning - are you trying to make me feel guilty?'
Harper's words were more filling than any food!
Harper stayed at Mistwood Hill for several days, and Thalia behaved herself for those several days, living this half-dead yet thrilling non-ideal life of sleeping at one and getting up at six to have breakfast with people.
Until the fifth day, Thalia couldn't take it anymore.
She called William.
William glanced at the time and saw it was Thalia calling.
He looked at Brian, signaling to pause the meeting, and went into the office with his phone.
"Haven't slept yet or already awake?" Thalia sat on the bed hugging her pillow, irritably rubbing her temples. "When are you planning to get Harper to leave?"
"What? Is she bothering you?"
"Sleeping at one, getting up at six for breakfast - what kind of breakfast requires me to eat it with my life?"
William said, "You don't have to eat it!"
"Harper personally gets up every morning to make breakfast. If I don't eat it, wouldn't that be rude?"
"Since when do you care about that?" How come William never noticed Thalia had such a compassionate heart? Or was this compassion only for others and not for him?
"William, it seems you don't want me as your wife anymore."
On the other end, the man lit a cigarette, his tone lazy. "I've been away for five days, and you haven't called or texted me. You even took advantage of my absence to drink with another man. I deserve it - you're the one who doesn't want me first."
Hearing William's words, Thalia instantly lost all sleepiness and was wide awake, ready to match wits with William. "William, you didn't fly back to deal with me, and you didn't call to warn me, which means me going out drinking and eating with another man isn't a big deal to you. Taking it a step further, I haven't cheated, and you trust that I won't cheat, right?"
"You're pretty good at reading my mind!" William tapped his cigarette ash.
"After all, we're husband and wife - that's a rare connection."
"No matter how rare the connection, it doesn't stop you from annoying me."
"Am I annoying you? I'm loving you! Have you ever seen me get annoyed with anyone else?"
When William saw Brian standing at the door urging him, his smile faded. "Get up and eat, then go back to sleep!"
"I..."
"I'm in a meeting!" William cut off Thalia's words.
She secretly cursed under her breath.
She dragged herself up to eat breakfast.
...
"What's wrong with you? Isn't William on a business trip? Why do you still look like you're dying?"
"Tired," Thalia yawned.
Making up for sleep in the morning didn't help. In the afternoon, she dragged Evelyn to a spa.
"What? Your husband's not home and you have insomnia?"
Thalia felt a bit embarrassed and didn't want to admit it. "If I said yes, would you believe me?"
"I believe you. It's only a matter of time before William steals your heart."
Evelyn wasn't surprised at all. With someone like Thalia, if William wanted to win her over, it really was just a matter of time.
What she liked, what she didn't like, what kind of love she needed, what kind of relationship she needed - William definitely knew it all.
"Why?"
Evelyn wanted to say something, but thinking about how stubborn Thalia was, she stopped herself. Saying it now would be like talking to a brick wall.
Only when she fell to rock bottom would this person stop being stubborn.
Only then would she listen to what others had to say.
In the evening, the two left the spa and found a restaurant. Before they could sit down, a familiar voice came through.
"Ms. Smith."
"Mr. Jimenez, what a coincidence."
"Quite a coincidence. We just finished playing ball downstairs and were about to grab dinner. Didn't expect to run into you here." Michael smiled faintly, looking at Thalia without showing any extra emotion. This kind of person was either genuinely simple or extremely good at hiding things.
"Want to join us?" Thalia thought, rather than let him keep testing her again and again, she might as well take the initiative.
"My pleasure."
