/Edward's POV/
Sleep didn't come easy that night. Meeting Aiden was the only thing going in my mind. I had no idea how I was going to talk to him. He may hate me. That thought made me jolt in my seat. I never thought about it before. What if Aiden doesn't accept me? What is he thinks that he is better off without me? There were so many possibilities that it could go wrong but I was still hoping for best.
Turning and tossing in my bed I tried to sleep for quite some time but it seemed to be useless. I stood up from my bed and picked the laptop from the desk and switched it on. My fingers automatically slid towards the mouse and I clicked on the profile of Aria. It was private but recently she made it public. It had many pictures of Aiden and her. There weren't many as I hoped but enough to make me feel better. And at the same time clenched my heart for missing our those memories. I scrolled through all her pictures, feeling a bit jealous when I spotted Ashton beside her. Why was he so close to her anyway? I took a deep breath trying not to think about that.
After a few minutes of staring at the bright screen, I felt my eyes began to feel droopy. Finally, I was able to sleep but all I could dream was about how much of a happy family we could have been.
The bell rang as I was about to reach for the door. I frowned staring at the closed door. Who could it be? Holding my breath I pulled open the door only to reveal Sara standing there with my parents.
My eyes widened at that and I opened and closed my mouth in shock. What was she doing in here? I thought to stare as my mother pushed the door wide open.
"Aren't you going to ask us to come in?" My father raised his eyebrow
I cleared my throat and moved away from the door, "Sorry please come in"
"Did you eat something?" My mother softly asked as she settled on the couch in front of me. My eyes moved towards her, aware of the way Sara was leaning against the couch.
I hummed, "I am fine. You should have called ma"
I was trying not to sound annoyed but it was difficult. Pretty sure that Aria was waiting for me and I didn't want to show up late. That would mn such a bad impression on Aiden.
"So you could avoid us somehow?" My mother narrowed her eyes at me, a weak smile playing at her lips. I noticed that she was trying not to snap at him. Sara must have definitely said something.
"No ma. That's not what- forget it. Do you and papa want anything to eat? There's some pastry from last night"
My father's face brightened up at the mentions of the pastry. He didn't get himself to indulge in eating sweets because of his sugar problem. But one glare from my mother and he shook his head.
"Don't try to distract us Edward" My mother grimaced staring at me and harshly slammed the glass's against the coffee table. It was so unlike my mother that it made me stare at her for a few seconds.
"I'm not trying to do anything ma. What do you want to know?" I huffed staring at her. Sara seemed taken back, obviously not expecting me to surrender.
"Sara told me everything"
At that, my eyes widened and I glared at her. Why can't she stay away? My blood boiled just at the thought of all lied Sara must have told them to maks her story believable.
"Did she?" I mocked, giving her one luck to which Sara pretended to look down instead of meeting my eyes. Of course, she wanted to look even more pathetic in front of my parents.
My father made a sound, "This is not how we raised you, Edward. How can you even think of hurting this young woman?"
I scoffed, "Papa do you even know why I broke off the engagement?"
He was quiet for a while before staring at my mother sitting beside him. Even she doesn't know anything about the reason.
"Sara said that you lost interest"
"That's not what-" Sara interrupted but I cut her off before she could go on with even more lies.
"She lied to me"
"Huh" My mother stared back at me, waiting for me to elaborate. Sighing I sat on my knees in front of my mother. Even though Aria didn't ask me to keep it secret I was hesitant about telling anyone. It felt too real. But my parents need to know.
Taking a deep breath I started the story from the beginning. My mother gasped, her hand flying towards her mouth at the mention of Aria while my father narrowed his eyes at me. They were quiet until I was done with my story.
"Edwardo" My mother choked back a sob, shaking her head.
My father looked grim by the end of the story, a frown on his face, "Do we get to meet him? Our grandson?"
A smile twitched at my lips at that, "Definitely. I think it'll take Aiden few days to come around but he'll love you guys"
My mother stood up from her seat, "We can't hold you any longer. You need to go and get them back. Good luck honey"
"Ah yes we'll leave you be"
My mother glared at Sara, "How could you do that to my son? You lied to my face!"
"Listen to me-"
"That's all we did from past few years Sara. Whatever Edwardo decides it's on him but please don't think I'll forgive you."
My mother raised her chin and walked out of the living room. I felt my father's pat on my shoulder as he walked out leaving me behind with Sara.
"Seriously what were you hoping would happen, Sara?" I questioned glaring at her. My arms were crossed against my chest in a defensive manner.
Sara hugged herself tighter and met my eyes, tears were glistening in her eyes, "I don't know!"
She took a deep breath, "Please I'm sorry but I can't- just don't leave me"
I sighed staring at her. Even though she messed up big time it was true that she loved me. That doesn't make everything right though. I won't get my years back with Aiden.
"I can't"
Her features turned dark, jaw clenched tightly. I could see her pulse ticking and her chest heaving.
"Why the fuck not? I carried your child Edward or did you forget about it? Did you forget how I lost our child and was all alone while you were away?"
My eyes clenched shut at that. Everything came back to that one point. The only reason why I proposed to Sara. Few months after I came back from the wedding and was still hung up on Aria I turned to Sara for help. It wasn't supposed to happen but she was the only one there who understood my pain. After all, she knew how unrequited love was.
It was that cursed night where I was too drunk and out of my wits so decided to revive our friends with benefits relationship. And a month later Sara told me she was pregnant. I couldn't handle it so I went away on a business trip. An excuse to stay away and party somewhere else without responsibilities.
That was the worst phase of my life because the woman I loved was somewhere away while I had impregnated the woman who loved me. Sara was so fed up that she went straight to my parents and they called me from New York. I was supposed to marry her and settle down as soon as I was done with my business trip. After I returned Sara told me that she lost our baby due to the stress I gave her. She went away for a week and I felt numb before deciding to propose her later.
"How could I?" I snarled
Her shoulders sagged at my response and she inched closer towards me. I moved back before she could touch me.
She twisted her lips, "So what you don't even want me to touch you?"
"Sara" I took a deep breath before continuing, "I love Aria. I loved her all those years ago but I was too stupid and irresponsible to realise but now I know."
She shook her head but I didn't stop, "It would be unfair if I marry you besides I have to think about Aiden too"
"No no you can't do this to me!" She screamed, hitting my chest several times, tears flowing down her eyes. It made my gut clench that I was the reason she was crying but it had to be done. I couldn't keep up the lie any longer.
"You'll find someone"
"I found you" Sara muffled in my chest to which I tried to say something but she swiftly pushed back.
"This isn't over. I won't give up until you realise that we were meant to be"
I looked at her, dumbfounded by her words. Never did I realise that Sara had turned her feelings into an obsession. It made my bones chill by staring at the hollow person standing in front of me. She looked far too determined and broken. That was the worst combination ever and it scared me more than I could ever admit.
I licked my lips, "Sara-"
"I'll see you soon" With that she turned out and was gone.
As soon as Sara left I locked the house. I wasn't going to let her destroy my day. I promised Aria that I was going to meet Aiden. The drive was longer than I expected or maybe it was just my nerves acting up.
I parked the car in front of her building and admired the tall complex for a while before walking inside. My palms felt sweaty as I slid inside the elevator.
As I stepped out I could hear loud giggles. That was definitely Aiden. Rubbing my sweaty palms against my pants I stumbled towards their apartment door. It was slightly ajar as if she was expecting someone.
This was it. I sharply inhaled before knocking the door.
"Come in" Aria's sweet raspy voice floated across the room and I pushed the door.
Aiden was rushing towards the stairs while Aria was trying to catch after him. It automatically brought a smile to my face. I could definitely get used to it.
"Hey" Aria whispered looking over her shoulder before she got down the stairs.
I awkwardly waved my arm at her, "Hi"
"Hi" Aiden shouted in response. This was already going well.
