23- The Enemy's Warning

TREVOR’S POV.

The conversation was smooth yet suspicious. I knew Lord Thomas and Valor were plotting against me. I have to think and make plans to overcome this challenge by myself.

Out of nowhere, Therese took a deep breath and mentioned what happened yesterday.

“By the way,” she paused and smiled.

“I heard something funny about you, father. Is it true that you fooled Trevor and faked an enemy attack to make fun of him?”

Lord Thomas glared at me. His eyes were asking, but I remained unpredictable.

To conceal the truth, he burst into laughter. Then he took Therese’s right hand and tapped it softly.

“Don’t tell me you’ll believe them, my lady. Those rumors will spread throughout the world, but I know my own daughter trusts me enough.”

Therese didn’t blink her eyes. Showing that she knew the truth and hoped to hear the truth from Lord Thomas’ mouth.

“Stop treating me like a fool, father! I knew everything you did, and I will never sit back if something terrible happens with our family!”

“Are you threatening me, my lady?”

The king didn’t give up. Instead, he showed how powerful he was.

I thought Therese would stop, but she smirked and clapped, which shocked all of us.

“Are you giving me a warning, father?”

Before things got worse, I held Therese’s wrist and walked away from the dining room. I didn’t know what would happen after what she did to the king.

As soon as we reached back into our room, I wrapped my arms around her body. I couldn’t bear to lose them again, and the same old feeling came back.

“Damn it! You almost take my breath away!”

I whispered and hugged her tightly.

Therese hit my shoulder and sighed.

She said, “I thought you were mad at me for talking back to my father! I… I tried to keep it, but seeing him makes me angry for fooling you around!”

Her weary eyes made me laugh. She’s my everything, and I promise to protect her no matter what.

“I love you, Therese. But please, don’t do it again. Do you understand?”

To assure her that I wasn’t angry, I kissed her forehead for a second. I didn’t want to blame her for acting that way, knowing she only wanted to protect me from Lord Thomas’ cruelty.

Therese lifted her face.

She looked straight in the eye as she tilted her head as an answer.

“I promise, I won’t do it again. But I want you to know that I’ll do anything for our family.”

I knew it. She wasn’t an ordinary woman who wanted to sleep with different men every single day. It was that night that I first met Therese. I knew we were meant for each other.

Before the King and his subordinates noticed our plans. I told Therese to go back to the dining room and apologize for her rudeness.

If we wanted to succeed, we must fool the enemy as our allies.

*

While the king talked to my wife. Valor asked me if we could have a conversation regarding the upcoming full moon.

It was expected, knowing how desperate he was to take Therese away from me.

As we walked into the woods, Valor took a deep breath and looked at the beautiful sky. He seemed confident about something that was eerie.

He said, “What’s your plan?”

“About what?”

Valor chuckled.

For a second, I watched how his shoulders moved in a harmonic way. He looked like a king, embracing authority and power. But something important was missing, which brought chaos to his kingdom.

“The full moon,” he paused.

“What is your plan if things don’t go according to our plans? Are you willing to sacrifice your life and save the king?”

It was an obvious question, and it gave me a clue that it would be a bloody event that was very dangerous.

But Valor was right. Which one would I choose between the king and myself on the brink of death?

Therese and the twins would lose me, while the whole pack would lose a leader. Once Lord Thomas died, his kingdom would fall apart, and a rebellion would take place.

To answer a wise question, I walked around and picked a small branch from the ground. There was a dead leaf with it, which caught my attention.

“How about you? Which would you choose if you were in my shoes?”

Without hesitation, Valor spoke from behind.

He said, “Myself. I will save myself knowing I have a beautiful wife and twins waiting for me at home.”

It was easy for him to choose, as he never went through the same life as I have right now. Instead of arguing with him, I decided to agree and tilted my head.

“That’s great! I know that once you marry the woman you love the most, you will be a great father! Am I right?”

I looked straight into his eyes and watched how he reacted.

Valor only wanted to marry Therese, but he couldn’t have her anymore. If he wants it to happen, then he must kill me first. However, if he failed, then his greatest dream would remain in his grave forever.

“I think I should kill you when the moon is bright.”

“Stop talking. Just do it, my lord.”

It was a joke, but Valor suddenly lost control and grabbed me by the collar.

I expected it to happen, proving that he doesn’t deserve to be Therese’s mate with a short temper. He might hurt her when things get rough.

“What did you say?”

Valor asked, raising his eyebrows at me.

“I truly wanted to get rid of you, but something stopped me from doing it! You’re lucky, Trevor! You’re lucky, but be careful. You don’t know what’s behind you.”

Through his eyes, I saw danger, which I couldn’t escape. It was strong enough, but I will do everything to survive.

To stop the fire between us, I lifted my arms and surrendered. It would be a waste of time to fight a nonsense battle against him.

“You’re too serious, my lord! It was merely a joke, if you don’t mind.”

I spoke.

A mischievous laughter echoed around the woods. I never thought Therese was his weakness like me.

“Take this as a warning, Trevor! Once you make a wrong move, your perfect life will come to an end! I’ll make sure Therese will be my mate, and you can’t change about it anymore!”

Valor pointed it out, but I didn’t give a damn. He wasn’t worth it to be an enemy either, and that was the truth.

“Wait for that day, Trevor! I will marry your mate, and everything you have will be mine!”

He shouted and left in the middle of the woods.
