24- A Dead Body

VALOR’S POV.

I was standing in the front yard, thinking about Trevor. His presence ruined my day, and I could no longer wait to get rid of him.

“Goddamn it!”

I kicked off the ground out of anger.

Until footsteps caught my attention coming from behind.

“What are you doing, my lord? You look angry, if I’m not mistaken.”

Riger closed his arms and took a deep breath.

“It’s none of your business—”

“Are you sure you don’t want to hear what I heard earlier?” Riger interrupted.

Then I saw a mischievous smile flaunted on his face.

To know what was going on, I tilted my head and calmed down for a few seconds.

“Speak.”

My voice was low enough to convince him. That I was interested in hearing the information he got from someone else.

I waited patiently until Riger burst into laughter—a loud laughter, to be exact.

“I heard from the servants that you are planning to kill Lord Trevor to be Lady Therese’s mate. Is it true, my lord?”

Through his facial expression, Riger was mocking me. He thought the rumors were true and that I could kill someone for stupid love.

Hearing it made me laugh. It was funny enough how those poor servants had the guts to spread such nonsense rumors about me.

“Well, they just gave me a perfect idea. Everyone in the pack knew that I was supposed to be her mate, but that jerk appeared in our lives out of nowhere!”

“Should I kill him, Riger?”

I looked straight into his eyes. Showing who I am and how powerful I could be.

Expecting a blunt answer, Riger shrugged off his shoulders and looked into the warm sky.

He said, “Lord Trevor isn’t just an ordinary alpha. I could sense through his eyes that he was something else, but I couldn’t find any proof to prove it.”

Riger was saying worthless things. How could he say that Trevor was more powerful than any of us? Through his goddamn boring eyes? That’s nonsense!

“What are you talking about? He’s an alpha, but he’s weak, and I’ll prove it to you when the full moon takes place!”

I smirked and turned around.

However, as I walked toward the patio where Lord Thomas and Therese had a conversation. Riger suddenly spoke, which caught my attention and gave me goosebumps.

"He's more powerful than you think, Lord Valor! He’s not ordinary! I’m certain of it!”

Riger turned around and met my gaze.

I was taken aback upon seeing his burning eyes. It only means that his predictions were true.

“He’s indestructible when triggered. Be careful, my lord, or you will lose your life in an instant.”

I could no longer bear to hear words from him. The best way to stop Riger from predicting someone’s life was to make him sleep for a few minutes.

“Forgive me, Riger. But you have to sleep now,” I mumbled.

As quick as I could, I used my speed and hit his head. It wasn’t hard enough to hurt him, but only to make him fall asleep as soon as possible.

“Don’t tell the king about your predictions, Riger. We will get in trouble!”

I thought as I carried him to the living room, where he could rest.

*

The sky was filled with darkness. It convinced Lord Thomas to leave his daughter’s house. Before the heavy rains stopped him from going back to the palace.

“We are leaving now, young lady. But it seems like the sky hears your prayer, am I right?”

Lord Thomas giggled as he asked Therese.

The beautiful lady smiled and bowed her head. Then I watched how she spoke with so much grace.

“I would be a liar if I said no, father! But I hope you’ll get back to the palace safe and unharmed, my king.”

Therese fooled his father, but it was a perfect moment for me. The way she smiled caught my attention the first time I saw her.

However, the smile on my lips vanished when I saw Trevor hold Therese’s hand. It should be me doing every little thing for her, but Trevor took everything away from me.

“Goddamn it! I can’t wait to kill you, Trevor!”

I thought as I looked away and controlled my emotions.

By then, we had walked into the spacious yard where the chariot was waiting for us.

To keep the king safe, Riger went first and made sure everything was under control. He then titled his head as a sign that there was no sign of danger.

“The chariot is safe and clear, my lord!” Riger spoke.

Without hesitation, Lord Thomas went into the chariot, and I followed him from behind. As soon as he reached the protected spot. He somehow called Therese to say something important.

“Come here, my beloved daughter.”

Therese has no idea about the king’s surprise. She thought our presence was merely to bring chaos to her life.

“I almost forgot to give this gift to you. It’s my wedding gift, young lady.”

At that moment, Therese took a small box wrapped in white and crystal paper. It looked luxurious, which made her happy.

Out of the blue, tears flowed down her cheeks. I stayed in front of her and wanted to wipe her tears away. But I stopped as soon as I saw Trevor next to her.

“Thank you so much, my king! I never imagined you would give me such a precious present!” Therese spoke out of joy.

Lord Thomas smiled back at her. Then he raised his right hand as he bid her goodbye.

“Til we meet again, young lady,” he mumbled.

Right then, Therese and Trevor bowed goodbye. They remained close to each other, which made me jealous.

It was hard to keep the truth, but I had to be impatient if I wanted to be with the king’s daughter forever.

“Worry not, young man. In a few days, you will marry my daughter, and no one can stop you anymore.”

“Yes, my lord. I’ll keep it in mind,” I replied.

As we traveled back to the palace, Lord Thomas gave me assurance. An assurance that he would help me get rid of Trevor.

However, we haven’t thought of a better plan yet.

“What are your plans, my lord? Trevor is not an ordinary enemy,” I asked.

“You’re right. I’m still thinking of our plans to make it smooth.”

I looked into the king’s face, and I saw how eager he was to make this event successful. Aside from that, I noticed hatred in his eyes. Which may be the reason why he could never accept Trevor as part of the royal family.

For a few seconds, Lord Thomas remained silent as he kept thinking. He then caressed his chin until the chariot stopped moving.

“What is going on?”

I asked, fearing that it was an ambush.

Until Riger spoke and explained the situation.

“There’s a dead body along the way. We have no choice but to take another route, my lord.”
