After a comprehensive checkup at the hospital, it was true that Luke had come down with a cold and a fever.
It might be because of his special constitution that he rarely got sick and was much less predisposed to illness. However, once he got sick, it would take him a long time to recover compared to a normal person.
After a few days of suffering from recurrent fever, he was finally showing signs of recovery.
Seeing how the fever had thinned his cheeks, Jovannie felt her heart aching for him.
It was that period of time she understood why he had always insisted on feeding her lots of good food in the attempt of fattening her up.
And now it was like their positions had been switched, she was the one who wanted to feed him so that he could gain back the weight he lost.
At that moment, Jovannie was feeding some oatmeal to Luke. Before she sent a spoon of oatmeal to his mouth, she would blow on it to cool it down.
She wished to take tremendous care of him.
However, he was the opposite of her when he was sick.
In the past few years, whenever she was ill, she would act like a spoiled child and beg him not to force her to take her medicines while Luke on the other hand was a much easier patient as he let her had her way.
With she was feeding him, he would open his mouth as soon as the spoon was near. Watching her feeding him, he observed every single detail on her face.
At the same time, he could feel her love for him.
In truth, she didn't need to do much for him. A few words or a look in the eye from her was enough to cover his heart in honey, making his heart sing.
And he would never be able to escape from her.
In the past, he hated being weak. To him, having a weakness meant that he was useless, and if he was useless, he could not do anything to watch over the people he loved, and would implicate them instead.
But now, seeing how Jovannie was caring for him, he realized that a moment of weakness did not mean all bad or negative. There was also a good side to showing weakness, gaining warmth and sweetness along the way.
"Luke, how are you feeling? Are you bored?"
"Very good. Nope, I'm not bored since you're here with me."
"Then would you like me to read you a book?"
Just then, Luke did not refuse. "Okay."
"What kind of book do you want me to read to you?" she asked.
After thinking for a moment, he was reminded of his childhood memories of Gia and himself.
"A fairy tale." Luke blurted out.
Surprise flitted across her face, but she did not ask him the reason for his choice. Since he was sick, she would just do as he wished to keep him content.
Then, she took out her phone, searched for a fairy tale on the Internet and read it to him. Listening to her soothing sweet voice, he felt a surge of warmth spreading across his whole body.
This was how it felt to be listening to someone reading a fairy tale! He thought to himself.
It was no wonder that the Gia would always pester him to read her a bedtime story every day when she was a child. Else, she would refuse to go to bed.
Thinking of this, he reached out and ran his fingers through her hair. "Jovannie, stay with me together forever."
His love for her had not diminished over time.
Instead, it grew stronger and stronger until this day. To him, she was his drug, and he would only get more addicted to her, falling deeper in love with her.
Hearing his words, she was slightly stunned. When she thought of the words "together forever", she was reminded of the conversation she had with Gia three years ago
"Then let's get married," she replied like it was the most natural occurrence.
Originally, she thought she would be bashful when she said that, but when she actually did, she felt like she was just expressing her innermost thought.
In fact, this thought had been well-kept inside her heart for a long time. After going through it multiple times in her head, it became something that was bound to happen for her and Luke and it no longer surprised her anymore.
However, it was Luke who was plastered in surprise.
His eyes were sparkling and his fingers were trembling as he looked at her. Even his heart was beating, spirally out of control.
"Jovannie, you can't regret this!" Without a moment of hesitation, he reached out to hold her hands, as if he let go of her hand now, she would change her mind.
Seeing how disorientated he was, she could not conceal the laughter in her eyes. It was rare to see him like this.
Then she answered him, "I won't. Luke, let's get married."
The next moment, she was pulled into his arms.
Happiness exploded in his heart and he never felt more alive.
"Okay, Jovannie. Let's get married as soon as we get home."
However, Luke wanted to make it up to her, so he added, "Jovannie when we get back, I'll propose to you officially. I'll give you the best proposal ever."
Hearing his words, she shook her head. While holding his hand, she stared deep into his eyes.
"You don't have to. You are already God's greatest gift to me. I won't leave you, so we'll be together forever..."
After going through so many things together, there were still times when she would feel shy and embarrassed, but there were also times when she was open and candid.
"Okay. I promise."
After returning to the city area, they went back to the Miller Family first.
With Jovannie's hand in his, Luke announced the good news to his family.
Right away, Hania and Gia were jumping for joy.
Even the usually calm and composed David was grinning from ear to ear.
A moment later, Hania congratulated them, "Jovannie, Luke, we're so happy for you. We wish you a lifetime of happiness. You have our support."
Blushing, she nodded at Hania before saying in a serious tone to everyone in the Miller Family, "Thank you, everyone. I will make sure to stay by Luke's side and be happy together with him until we are gray and old."
The next day.
Luke couldn't wait to take her to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register their marriage.
Although he had not cared about the piece of certificate before, the thought of Jovannie becoming his wife gave a lot of weight to the certificate.
