Chapter 1528: 1530

Luke accompanied Jovannie to another few villages. The journey was tough, and they were met with all sorts of people, but never once had she complained about being fatigued. Instead, she pulled through with a positive mindset as she worked hard on her part.

This was because she knew that if it were not for him by his side to help her, she would be more exhausted than she was now.

With that, she was satisfied as everything she had seen and learned in this journey was nothing she had experienced before.

Soon they came to the last village of the volunteering event. When they were about to leave the next day, Luke fell ill.

In the beginning, she did not realize that because he was acting just fine this whole while. They worked normally, ate normally, and chatted normally too. It was only till bedtime that she felt his rising temperature, and she panicked.

At that moment, she realized he was sick.

Luke, you're running a fever!"

However, he looked calmed as he comforted her instead, "It's okay. It's nothing serious. I'll be good as new after a night's rest. I already took some medicine."

By his appearance, he really looked like he did not take it seriously.

However, her stomach contracted into a tight ball when she heard his casual dismissal.

"Luke... You should have told me earlier that you were sick! How could you just act as it was nothing and work with me? You should be resting in bed."

It was also the first time that she had gotten angry. Before she could say anything more, her eyes turned red.

"Okay, okay. It's all my fault. You don't have to be so worried. I'm really fine." Seeing the sad and pained expression on her face, he felt a stung in his heart.

How could she not be worried?

Later, she insisted on taking care of him. Not only had she asked him to drink more water to stay hydrated, but she would also wipe the sweat on his forehead from time to time.

In her mind, she thought that his condition would improve after a night of sweating it out, but he was still having a fever the next day.

Seeing that his temperature was about the same, she was about to burst into tears.

After finding out that he was sick, she already asked the doctors to do a checkup for him.

She was told that it was just a cold and a fever, and she could bring him to the hospital if she was still worried.

Now that he was still in the same state as the day before, she wanted immediately to send him to the town's hospital with the medical team.

On the bus.

Even though Luke was trying to comfort Jovannie, she was still worried sick, so she asked him to stay quiet, seeing how weak he was and how hard was it for him to speak.

Then, she let him lean onto her, trying to make the trip slightly more comfortable for him.

She had not seen Luke looking so frail before as he always gave off the impression that he was a man of steel. It was like nothing could crumble him, and she believed in it till this day.

Somehow, she was condemning herself in her heart for willfully wanting to join this volunteering event, dragging him along with her. If he did not have accompanied her through this rough journey, he would not have fallen sick. Now that he was, he would not be able to receive the best treatment and proper rest.

After all, she knew that he was living in luxury for his whole life, and used all the best thing, but now he was suffering because of her.

When she thought of this, she could not control her tears from rolling down her face.

She wanted him to be in a pink of health, not sick because of her.

"Silly, don't cry."

Wiping her tears, she replied, "I was not crying, and I would not cry either. Luke, get some rest. I'll take care of you this time."
