Tranquility
“None of your business.” Jacob replied impatiently as his eyes trailed to the driver that had come with their mother before turning back to her.
“We are on our way out, you can come along if you are here as our mother, and not your husband's wife.”
“Jacob.” Jackson cautioned slightly even though he was also currently angry at their parents.
Sighing, he used the remote in his hands to open the door. “Mother, we just received news that Anna’s father is dead, and we are on our way to see her family.” Jackson explained calmly to their mother, intentionally hiding the fact that their son was also there, to see her reaction.
Rose looked away from Jacob’s cold face as she heard the news about Anna’s father’s death. She almost couldn’t believe that the man her husband was talking to on the phone less than a few hours was already dead.
She couldn't bring herself to feel anything for him, but she was so concerned about Anna after everything she had heard. Without saying a word, she moved closer to Jacob and tenderly pulled Anna into her embrace.
“I will wait with her here, she doesn’t have to go and see him.” Rose asserted as raised her eyes at her boys, but Anna shook her head, and gently pulled away from her.
This was her first reaction after 20 minutes, and they all looked at her as she spoke in a firm voice. “No, I want to see him,” she swallowed what she was sure was something like tranquillity descended on her after so many years.
“I will get the car.” Jackson broke the short silence after Anna’s words before he turned to get the car.
Jacob didn't even say a word to his mother before he pulled Anna back into his arms. “Did your husband know you are here?” He threw another question at her but she scowled at him as she stared at his beard.
“Look at how you look older than your father? People will think you are Jackson’s older brother and not the other way around.”
Jacob frowned at his mother’s joke but his heart felt a bit warm with her presence.
“Your father said to come and accompany you boys since I miss you so much. It's nice knowing that none of you miss me. I should have gone to Rhoda instead.” The fake scowl on her face got bigger as she added.
Jacob had almost believed her words until he saw the expression on her driver’s face. “So, you fight with your husband, is that it?” He asked, and Rose was about to deny it when Jacob’s phone rang in his pocket.
“Good, take her and her father back to their house quietly and report a case of arson when you are done,” Jacob said after he heard that the remaining Camerons had been found, and also the most recent crime of Rebecca Cameron.
“Find those boys and round them up too,” those bloody bastards that had also accepted her deal should be burnt along with her and her father.
Rose and Anna furrowed their brows curiously at Jacob as they listened to him.
“Bring my mother along with us,” Jacob said to Rose’s driver after Jackon returned, then wrapped his hand around Anna’s waist before he turned to enter the car again.
When they all got to Anna’s childhood house, she swallowed when she saw the police and some other people around it.
Anna felt her heart throb with ache when she saw her sister, who had been very cheerful a few hours ago, now disheveled and distraught.
There was sadness in her heart as she couldn't share her grief. Yeah, the man that had just died was her biological father too, but she couldn’t bring herself to mourn him. If she was feeling anything in her heart right now, it would be serenity, and despair for her sister.
Her heart, which was always in a state of fidgety anytime she remembered that her father would rather ruin her life than watch her be happy, finally felt at peace after 7 years.
Maria noticed the two expensive cars almost immediately when they arrived, and she didn’t have to guess twice to know that it was her sister that had arrived. Swallowing back her brief, she saw Adrian give her a warm smile a few steps away from her and she sniffed back her tears.
It was hard for her as she was really close to Mr. Walton, and he had been a good father to her. Excuse the fact that he hates it when she talks about Anna.
“Are you ready to go down?” Jacob asked and Anna nodded, she had seen Adrian too, but she hadn’t seen the sight of her son, which she was greatly grateful for.
When they got down, Rose didn’t, as she had already asked the police if the deceased was inside the house, and they had said that his remains had been transferred to the morgue.
Anna walked quietly towards Maria, zero expression on her face as she approached the house that she had lived in for 18 years before she was given by her father to his old creditor.
“Anna.” Maria called out before she met her halfway, and then both started wailing softly in each other's arms. Each of them cried for a different reason as they consoled themselves.
That night, Anna once again slept peacefully between the twins, and Marcelo woke up the next morning to see two familiar older men before him.
