Chapter 19 A death wish
Ralph - POV
The sun was setting on the horizon as I pressed my foot on the gas. “This is a death wish," my wolf whined in my head as we got closer to the bar.
“They wouldn't harm a rogue,” I reassured him, but that only made him even more agitated. The trees began to thin out when I saw the bar in the distance. I looked to my sides when I slowly drove down the dirt path.
After parking my car I got down and walked to the door when I realized that the bar was closed. I peered in when I spotted a woman mopping the floors. “Excuse me?” I called out as I lightly knocked on the door. At first, she ignored me, but after my persistent knocking, she made her way towards the door.
“Can't you read the sign?” She asked me, sounding irritated, as she pointed at the closed sign that hung on the door.
“I want to meet someone. ” I told her.
“Listen here, mister. The bar is closed, so come back in a few hours.” She said in a stern voice, and when she was about to close the door, I placed my foot on the edge, preventing her from locking the door.
“It's about a missing Luna. "Alpha Alastiar sent me.” Something flashed in her eyes when she quickly masked her emotion and opened the door again. I too took a step back as she stepped out of the bar and looked around the deserted parking lot before her eyes fixed on mine.
“We do not meddle with your kind. I suggest you look for her elsewhere," she told me in a low tone.
“But we have intel that the Luna was last seen at your bar," I insisted.
“I don't care about your intel. There are hundreds of people who come and go every…”
“Anna?” The woman stopped mid-sentence and turned around, and then my eyes landed on a woman who walked out of her office.
She looked like she was in her late forties; her curly hair was dyed a fiery red. She wore a baggy dress with her fingers adorned with rings of all shapes and colors. To say the least, she didn't look like a witch to me, but I think we can never judge a person by their appearance. “What is going on in here?” she asked Anna as she approached us.
“This man is here asking to know about the whereabouts of a missing Luna.” Anna asserted when a frown adorned the lady’s face.
“You are a rogue," the woman plainly stated, her eyes narrowing in slits while a nervous smile appeared on my face. I have heard that witches have the ability to perform spells without needing a physical instrument.
“Yes, I work for Alpha Alastair," I stated.
“I thought rogues and pack wolves never mingle together.”
“Not all rogues are bad. But I am not here for that. Alpha Alastair’s Luna has been missing for almost a week now, and this was the last place that Luna Antonella was spotted.”
“Like my assistant stated earlier. We do not meddle with the affairs of your species. So I suggest you look for her elsewhere," the woman said in a calm tone before turning to face her assistant. “Close the door and get back to work.”
Wilma Anderson - POV
I rushed back into my office and took a seat at my desk and immediately turned on my CCTV cameras. The rogue still lingered in my parking lot looking at my car before he finally hit back into his vehicle and left.
“Mrs. Anderson?” I looked away from the screen when I saw Anna standing by the doorway. “They must have sensed something.”
“What are we going to do now?” Anna asked, sounding agitated.
“I don't know. But if Alpha Alastaie figured out that his mate’s scent has been altered, I know that he would not leave our place until he finds out where she is right now.”
“Do you think we should inform them about this?” Anna asked me, and I nodded my head. “Alpha Alastair isn't going to let this go easily.” I asserted when I moved my crystal ball close to me and placed my palms on it and began chanting. I felt the magic sizzle through my veins, and soon a storm began to brew within my crystal.
The storm gradually cleared and a dark forest emerged in its place. I tried walking closer when a cabin came into view, and before I could go inside, something pushed me back, and everything cleared.
“Mrs. Anderson, what was that?”
“I don't know. But I have a feeling that Maximus’s pack might be in danger.” I told Anna. “Could you…”
Crash!
“What was that?” I whispered while I saw Anna’s eyes were wide in fear. I quickly logged into my computer to check the CCTV footage, but everything was blank. I got up from my place to go and check when Anna shook her head.
“You stay right here; I will go and check it out.” Anna said when I nodded my head. She walked out of my office, and a few seconds later I heard her scream.
Antonella Erickson - POV
It's been three days since the rogue attack, and everyone has been on edge ever since. “Maximus?” I said as I walked into the kitchen where he was making breakfast.
“Breakfast is almost…” Maximus stopped midway when he saw my appearance. “Antonella, didn't you take the potion today?”
“I drank the last bottle yesterday.” I casually told him as I took a seat at the table and grabbed the jug of orange juice. “You told me that Wilma would send some this morning.”
“Well, that was what she told me yesterday, but I didn't receive anything from her yet.”
“How am I supposed to go out now, Maximus? And the mating ceremony is only two days away. People from all over the country have started coming.”
“Relax, I will go and see what happened." He told me when I nodded my head and picked up the newspaper and began reading it. Ever since last night, things have been quiet. There has been no new update about Alpha Alastair’s search. It's like he has completely given up on finding me.
