Chapter 20 A torn disguise
Alpha Maximus Alexus - POV
“Please lock all the doors from inside, and no matter what happens, don't open the door, all right?” I asked Antonella, who nodded her head, but I can see the fear dancing in her eyes.
“Please come back soon, Maximus. I don't think I can keep hiding like this for long.” Antonella told me when I nodded my head.
“I won't be long.” I promised her before I left the kitchen. I grabbed my car keys from the table and quickly walked out of the house. Just as I was locking the front door, I heard someone walk up the driveway.
“Where are you going, Maximus?” I heard Rachel’s voice when I turned around to see her standing in my driveway with a box of chocolates.
“I have some urgent business,” I told her when my eyes locked on the chocolate box. “What are you doing here?”
“I am here to see Luna Evangeline," she told me as she showed me the chocolates.
“She is not feeling well.” I lied when a frown appeared on her face.
“But didn't Doctor Jenifer say that she was healing pretty fast?”
“She did. But she is feeling well. All those medicines are making her a little drowsy.” I lied when she nodded her head. “I will see you later, Rachel,” I told her, but when I tried to leave, she stood in front of me, blocking my way.
“I think it wouldn't be safe to leave Luna Evangeline alone in this situation, Maximus. Shall I stay with her until you come back?” She asked me, but I shook my head.
“That would not be necessary, Rachel. Evangeline is sleeping, and she will be fine on her own.”
“Well, if you insist. But I still feel bad for leaving her alone.” Rachel said, but I only nodded my head. “I will see you later.” I told her, and before she could ask any more questions, I walked to my car and soon left my house. As soon as I crossed my border, I got a mind link from Arthur.
"Everything all right, Arthur?” I asked him as I opened my mind link.
“Yes, guests have started arriving in our pack, and the security has been tightened. I just wanted to know where you are going."
“I will be back. Take care of the pack until I come.”
“Is Luna Evangeline with you?”
“She is not feeling well, so she is at home taking a rest."
“Oh okay. Do you want me to stay with her just in case?” He asked me, and even though I wanted him to go and stay with Antonella after everything that happened, I know that it is a risky business.
“That would not be necessary. I will be back soon.” I told him before I cut the mind link and pressed harder on the accelerator. The drive was monotonous when I finally arrived at Wilma’s restaurant.
As I turned into the dirt road, a frown appeared on my face when I saw the vehicles that were parked there. There were a lot of witches and wizards stationed around the restaurant when I parked my car close to the exit and got out.
As soon as my door closed, a few witches turned to face me, and immediately their faces turned sour. Something didn't feel right in here as I continued walking towards the entrance.
“What are you doing here, wolf?” a man asked me as he stood in front of me and the entrance.
“I am not here to cause trouble.” I told him as I showed him my hands.
“And you think we would believe it?” he asked me rudely while I stood clueless.
“I am here to see Wilma. We have known each other for a long time.” I told him when I saw a woman storming towards me through my peripheral vision.
Her eyes were glowing a deep purple, and I only had a split second to turn around to see her when the man standing in front of me quickly blocked me from her view and chatted something loudly.
White smoke shot through his palms as it attacked the woman, who staggered back, and soon more witches came and pulled her back. “I will never let you live!” I heard her scream as they dragged her away.
“What is going on in here?” I asked that man when he turned around to face me. His face held so much hatred towards me, but I didn't care what his feelings towards me were. He was about to open his mouth to answer when the entrance door opened and two men walked out holding a stretcher.
As they walked past me, my breathing hitched while my heart nearly stopped beating. Lying on the stretcher was Wilma. Her face had a huge claw mark, and her right hand was twisted at an odd angle. “What happened to her?” I whispered.
“One of your wolves did this to her," he replied in a monotone.
“Is she alive?”
“Well, she is not dead, but the injuries she has sustained are numerous, and we are not sure if she would survive,” he paused, letting his words sink in before he continued. “This is why we don't help werewolves. But some of our kind still believes that there is still some good within the werewolves.”
“You think I did this?” I asked him, my blood boiling in anger.
“I don't know, but that is why I am here," he told me when I narrowed my eyes at him. “We have already informed you about this incident to our council, and they will be sending out an official letter to the council, and the case will move on from there," the man told me before he walked away, leaving me alone.
Gradually the witches and wizards began getting into their cars, and soon the entire place was deserted. I walked inside the restaurant when I saw that the place was ruined. “Her mate is looking for her.”
I abruptly turned around when I saw a waitress walk out from the office. “Elijah did this to her?” I asked the woman, but she didn't say anything. Her blouse was soaked in blood, her hair was disheveled, and there were tiny cuts all over her body.
