Chapter 18 I misjudged her character.
Madison Smith - POV
“My parents will find me when they…” I trailed off when my eyes locked with someone I once loved. “How could you fucking do this to me, Elijah!” I screamed trying to break free as the silver seared through my skin.
“You ruined everything for me, and you think I would let you go that easily?” he stated in a calm voice.
“You didn't love her!” I yelled when a smirk appeared on his face.
“True, but I never gave you the power to decide if I want her in my life or not, Madison," he retorted while tears rolled down my cheeks. The man I thought I once loved stood with an emotionless face in front of me. “Ralph, can I have a word with you?” Elijah asked the rogue, who nodded his head.
Ralph got up from his place, and they walked a few meters away from me. “Are you responsible for the attack?” I heard Elijah's question.
“I only found out about it this morning, Alpha Alastair.” Ralph paused, waiting for his words to settle in. “I was amazed that someone was able to pass through their security.”
“Do you know why his pack was attacked?”
“Rumours are going around that he has found his mate. I believe someone wants her dead.”
“I don't care what he is going through. Did you find her?”
“I have utilized all my resources, Alpha Alastair. She is nowhere to be found.”
“My beta said that her scent was last located at a bar that is run by a group of witches. I don't think they would be very cooperative if pack wolves go and enquire, so I want you to go and find out if you could find any clues that would lead to my mate.”
“Okay, Alpha. Also, what am I supposed to do with her?” I heard Ralph ask in a softer tone when a shiver ran down my spine.
“Kill her and dispose of the body near my border. Make it look like she was kidnapped and then killed.” His words made my blood run cold while my heart newly skipped a beat. I was still clueless as to why Elijah suddenly hated me so much, but I never imagined that he would dare to kill me.
“Of course, Apha Alastair.” I heard Ralph’s enthusiastic voice when their footsteps began to fade away. Tears began flowing down my cheeks while I pulled at my wrists, hoping to break free, but the chains only cut deeper into my skin, making more blood drip down my arms.
An eerie silence descended in the basement when I finally slid down the wall and sat on the cold floor.
I didn't know how long I sat in silence when I heard heavy footsteps walking downstairs, and suddenly everything went quiet again. “Are you sure you want to kill her, boss?”
“Yes, Alpha Alastair doesn't want her around. I have something important to do, so make sure you kill her tonight and place the body at the border.”
“Yes, boss.”
“You can't give up right now, Madison!” Freya, my wolf, growled in my head.
“What can I do, Freya? We are chained to the walls, and I don't think there is a way out either.”
“But we cannot give up right n…” Freya trailed off when we heard footsteps, and I looked up when I saw a man who looked a little older than me approach me with a syringe in his hand.
“I believe you heard what the boss asked me to do?” He asked me when my eyes locked on the syringe, which had a blue-colored liquid inside.
“Please let me go. I will run far away from here and never come back.” I pledged with him.
“I don't think I can disobey my boss’s order. I am sorry," the man whispered when I shook my head. The man took slow steps towards me when he finally knelt down next to me.
“I didn't do anything!” I yelled. “All I wanted was to love him and be by his side for the rest of my life. Is that a crime?” I asked the man when I saw something shift in his expression. “I just want to leave all this behind and start a new life.”
“I have seen a lot of women like you. You are only after the power, and you would do anything for that," the man said when I shook my head.
“I was never after the power.” I tried to persuade him, but a mocking smile appeared on his face.
“I am sorry. But I have to follow my boss’s orders.” The man hissed when he brought the syringe too close to my neck. The needle was barely a hairline’s distance away from my neck when I blurted out a secret that I promised I would never speak of again.
The presence of the needle immediately vanished when I slowly opened my eyes to see the man’s eyes were wide in disbelief. “You are lying.”
“I'm not.” I told him with certainty.
“He is the one consumed by power, and he is willing to sacrifice me for that.”
Antonella Erickson - POV
“We were not able to capture any of them.” I heard Arthur answer.
“Rachel, I don't know how I am supposed to thank you.” Maximus said.
“She is our Luna, Max. And even though our engagement broke off, I am still a part of this pack, and I will protect her with my life," I heard Rachel promise.
“Thank you, we will be having the mating ceremony in a few days, and there will be a lot of alphas and other wolves coming in from all over the country, so I need you to make sure the security is tight around the border.”
"That's my job. Okay, I will go and see how my sister is doing as well.”
“Rachel, I want you to protect Evangeline as well.”
“You don't have to ask, Maximus.”
“You are awake?” Maximus walked into my room when a soft smile appeared on my face.
“I misjudged her character.” I flinched when a frown appeared on his face.
“Who?”
“Rachel.”
“She saved my life today.”
