Chapter 17 A clue leading to her
Alpha Elijah Alastair - POV
“Nothing. All we know is that they were ordinary rogues.” Zane, my beta, informed me while I kept pacing back and forth. “But I guess we should be happy that someone was able to attack that pack, Elijah," he commented when I stopped pacing and turned to face him.
“Don't you think it's a shame that a bunch of rogues got to go that deep into Maximus’s pack, but we are stuck attacking his border?” I growled when Zane quickly averted his glance. “I don't think those rogues entered the pack without an insider’s help.”
“But why would Alpha Alexus want to attack his own pack?” Zane asked me, and that was the same question that was running in my head as well.
“Forget about that. As long as he doesn't attack our border, we can focus on other things.” I told him when I stopped in front of my desk and turned to face him. “Did you find anything?”
“No, it's like she has vanished from the face of the earth, Elijah. Our warriors tracked down her scent up till a rundown bar, but beyond that point, it completely vanished. Like she was magically transported elsewhere.”
“Did you check with the bar tenders?”
“The bar is run by a group of witches, and they weren't very happy when they saw us," he informed me when I nodded my head. Witches have been keeping a safe distance from the werewolf for centuries after an ugly war that broke out between us.
“I will go and meet them personally then.” I told Zane when he nodded his head. “What about her best friend? Did she say anything?” I asked him when he shook his head.
“She is only stating the same thing over and over again, Elijah. The last time she, Antonella, was at the Christmas gathering.”
“I need my mate by my side soon, Zane.”
“We will find her, Elijah," he reassured me as I turned around and looked out through the window. “Elijah.”
“Hmm.”
“Madison has been locked up at her home for nearly a week now. Should I go and check in on her? He asked me when I get my back stiffen.
“I don't think that is…” I was rudely interrupted when I heard an urgent knock on my door. I gestured for Zane to open the door while I walked back to my chair and took a seat.
“Alpha Alastair, there has been a kidnapping," the warrior, who walked in, said in panic.
“Who was kidnapped?”
“It is Miss Smith. One of her friends had gone to check on her, and as she entered the house, it was trashed, and Miss Smith was nowhere to be found," he informed me while I maintained a calm face.
“Send out a search team and inform our neighboring packs.” I commanded when he nodded his head and walked out.
“This must be the same rogues who broke into Alpha Aleuxs’s pack as well, Elijah.” Zane commented as soon as the warrior left my office.
“We cannot tell anything for sure, Zane. Now make sure our priority is to find Antonella. Got it?”
“But what about Madison? "I thought you had a soft spot for her?” he asked me, and I knew what he meant. Zane has caught me having sex with Madison a few times, and he had all warned me about how it might all go downhill, but from then on, I made sure to keep our relationship private.
“Our relationship ended a few months back. Now make sure you find Antonella first.” I told him when he nodded his head.
“Before I go, this came in the mail," he told me when he placed an envelope on my desk as he walked out. I took it and opened it as I pulled out a royal red invitation card. The invitation was crumpled, and the good printing on it was a little smeared.
Alpha Alexus and his mate, Luna Evangeline Malcolm, warmly invite you to their mating ceremony that would take place on the twenty-ninth of december.
I turned the invitation around when I saw a note that was written in messy handwriting. It was from a council member.
I know Alpha Alexus must not have sent you an invitation card, but I want you to attend this event. Do not cause any trouble. I need you to find a way to end this feud between the two packs.
I crushed the letter and threw it to the side. I don't think I want to set foot into his pack.
I opened my drawer and grabbed my car keys and left my office. As I walked out of the pack house, I saw that Zane had tightened the security around our pack. I got into my car and soon drove off.
It was a two-hour journey when I finally slowed down and stopped right in front of an old house that was located deep in the forest. As I got out of the vehicle, I saw a few rogues lingering on the border. “Boss has been expecting you since yesterday," one of the rogues informed me as I began walking towards the house.
“Where is he?” I asked him.
“He is in the basement with her," the rogues informed me when I nodded my head and walked into the house. The atmosphere was pitch dark while the scent of rotten food and sweat invaded my nostrils, making me cringe my nose.
I looked around when I finally spotted a door behind the stairs that was left open. I walked towards it and opened it wider when I heard the sound of crying. As I descended, it only got louder until I reached the landing.
“Let me fucking go!” I heard her screams echo in the air as I walked down the narrow hallway when I finally came to a stop in the hallway. Madison was held up against the wall by a pair of silver chains while Ralph was seated in a chair a few meters away from her.
“You will only be able to leave this place the day your heart stops pumping blood.”
