Chapter 13 Whose the black wolf?

Chapter 13 Whose the black wolf?
Antonella Erickson - POV

“Where is she now?” I asked him in almost a whisper.

“She has gone to attend her best friend’s baby shower.” Alpha Alexus said. “Antonella.” I felt his fingers move under my chin as he gently lifted it up so that our eyes met. “I never wanted to accept her as my mate. The mating ceremony was decided by the council elders since I was mateless.”

“What are you going to do when she comes back?” I asked him when his touch moved away from me. A thoughtful look crossed his face while I waited for his answer.

“I will tell her that I will not make her my Luna.” he causally replied but deep down I knew that no woman would ever let such an important position slide from her grasp. “Look,” Apha Alexus said when I looked at him. “I will make her understand the situation the moment she returns to the pack. She will not cause any problems for you, all right?” Alpha Alexus asked me when I wearlily nodded my head.

Alpha Maximus Alexus - POV

“Where are you going?” I asked her when she abruptly got up from her place.

“I am going to take a shower.”

“You should have breakfast first.” I insisted when she shook her head.

“I am not hungry now, Alpha Alexus. I will have something later. Thank you.” she told me before walking out of the kitchen leaving me alone. I made my way back to the stove and turned it on and continued frying the eggs.

Once breakfast was done I put it all to the plate and took a seat to eat when I felt Arthur trying to contact me through the mind link so I let it through. “What is it, Arthur?”

“Come to the west border, Maximus.” his voice sounded strained.

“Did Elijah’s warriors get past our border?” I asked him I know he would have never bothered me if it wasn't serious.

“No it's something worse. I don't have the words to explain this, Maximus. I think it would be best if you come and take a look.” he said when the mind link was cut off. I immediately git up from my table and left my house.

It took me fifteen minutes to get there and as I arrived I saw Arthur and two other warriors standing by the edge of the border while their eyes were looking at something in the ground. “What's going on in here?” my voice made them all turn around and step aside. My eyes wandered to the ground when my heart skipped a beat.

Two warriors were lying in the ground. Their eyes were pitch black as it stared up at the sky. Their bodies have turned a sickly gray color. There were no signs of injuries and deep down I had this nagging feeling that I knew who did this. “Did anyone cross the border?” I asked Arthur when he shook his head.

“Our cameras didn't detect anything unusual,” Arthur exclaimed.

“Inform the hospital and take the bodies to the morgue,” I instructed the warriors who bowed their heads at me and quisky walked towards the lifeless body. “And don't perform an autopsy.”

“But, Alpha Alexus, how are we going to determine the cause of death?” one of the warriors asked me.

“I don't want to know. Just take them to the hospital, inform their families and prepare for the funeral.” I said in a stern tone. The warriors quickly walked to the bodies and carried them and walked towards the hospital.

“Maximus, this looks too familiar.” Arthur said when I nodded my head.

“It's happening again. But I don't know why they are targeting my pack.” I told him. This is not the first time someone died in an unusual manner. It happened twenty two years ago. An entire pack was killed in the same manner including its Alpha and Luna. The entire race was confused. The neighbouring packs claimed that they did not see a fire break out, or hear the sound of a fight. Everything happened in silence.

And the next morning when the authorities went to visit the place, they were horrified. Every pack member was dead in the same manner. Ghastly gray skin and pitch black eyes with no signs of injuries.

When a body was taken to perform an autopsy the doctor was petrified at what he saw. The organs had turned an unusual green while the blood had tiny crystals in it. The news spread fast but no one knows the details of how the corpses were found except the alphas. No one knows who did it but that instilled a sense of fear among our kind.

I began walking around while my eyes scanned the ground hoping to find a clue. “I looked everywhere there isn't anything. No smell, no fur, and no footprint.” Arthur said when I crossed the border.

“It's a dead end, Max.” Ares said when something caught my eye. I walked deeper into the neutral territory when I finally stopped in front of an ancient tree. It's barks were scratched and there was a small hole in it where a black envelope was placed.

I took it out and sniffed but there wasn't a smell when I opened it and took out the white paper.

History will repeat itself if you make the same mistake.

I didn't understand what this person was trying to say. “Maximus?” I looked to my right when I saw Arthur standing beside me. “What is this?”

“We need to find out what happened to the Ruby black pack.” I told him as I handed the letter to him.

“You know that case was closed when they didn't find any leads.”

“Yes, but if we don't figure out what mistake they did that brought them such a fate, we will end up in their place,” I told him when I turned around and walked back into my pack.

The image of the lifeless body was etched on my mind and I didn't even realize when I arrived at the pack house. I was about to walk inside when I saw a familiar car speeding towards the driveway.
