Chapter 163 Chapter 163

Chapter 163 Chapter 163

Author’s POV

Amelia did not answer.
She only stared blankly toward the staircase, as if her mind were trapped in a past she could never escape. Slowly, both of her hands rose to cover her face.

“Amelia, what’s wrong, sweetheart?” Miranda asked in shock after seeing Amelia’s sudden change in behavior.

Kai, who had been watching her the whole time, immediately hurried over to his wife.

“Amelia, what’s wrong?” he asked frantically as he gently pulled her hands away from her face.

The moment her hands lowered, Kai’s chest tightened painfully.

Tears were already streaming heavily down Amelia’s cheeks. Her gaze was empty. Her face had turned deathly pale, as though all the strength had been drained from her body.

Ezra, who stood not far away, stared sharply at Kai. His jaw tightened, and both of his fists clenched hard as he struggled to hold back his emotions after seeing Amelia’s condition.

“We’re going home!” Kai said firmly.

Without waiting for an answer, Kai immediately lifted Amelia into his arms bridal style. He carried her out of his parents’ house without caring about anyone else anymore.

Osvar, Kai’s father, and Miranda followed them to the front terrace. Their faces were filled with worry as they told the driver to immediately take Kai and Amelia home.

But ever since leaving that house, Kai had no intention of letting Amelia go from his embrace.
He held her tightly.

Very tightly.

As if he was afraid she would disappear from his life again.
Inside the car, Amelia kept crying while mumbling softly in a trembling voice.

“My baby… my baby…”

The words were so quiet, yet they felt like knives stabbing Saga’s heart over and over again.

Kai’s jaw hardened. His eyes reddened as he tried to hold back the suffocating ache swelling inside his chest. Pain slowly filled every corner of his heart along with an overwhelming sense of regret.

If only time could turn back, Kai would have chosen to help Amelia first instead of Tania.

Even if their baby still could not have been saved in the end, at least Amelia would not have misunderstood him. At least he would not have lost her for four years.

Back then, he had panicked.
Ezra had nearly killed Tania in a blind rage, and Kai lost control. The only thing on his mind was stopping Ezra before everything became worse.
And because of that panic… he forgot.

Forgot that Amelia needed him more. His wife was pregnant and had just fallen down the stairs, crying in pain on the floor.

But in Amelia’s eyes, everything looked different. She thought Kai cared more about Tania than about her. And that misunderstanding was what destroyed everything.

Kai closed his eyes for a moment, trying to suppress the tightness in his chest. His hand continued stroking Amelia’s hair and back gently as he repeatedly apologized to her in his heart.

“Please forgive me, Amelia…” he murmured softly. “Punish me however you want, just don’t leave me again.”

“How could you be so cruel to me…” Amelia’s weak voice suddenly whispered.

Kai lowered his head to look at the woman in his arms. Amelia’s eyes were still closed. Her face remained pale, and her lips trembled as she held back her sobs.

“I hate you…” Amelia murmured softly. “You’re cruel…”

Deg.

Those words struck Kai mercilessly.

It felt as if thousands of knives were tearing through his chest and heart all at once.
Kai quickly looked up when a single tear fell from the corner of his own eye.

I’m sorry… sorry for all my selfishness, Kai thought full of regret.

Meanwhile, after Kai and Amelia left, Ezra and his parents were still sitting in the living room. The atmosphere inside the house felt silent and suffocating.

“Mom, do you know what happened to Amelia?” Ezra asked quietly while trying to suppress the storm raging inside him.

“I think she still can’t forget what happened four years ago,” Miranda replied softly with a sorrowful expression.

“And all of that happened because of Mom.”
Ezra turned his gaze toward Miranda.

Miranda looked startled. “What do you mean, Ezra?” she asked softly. “Why are you blaming Mommy?”

“Because you loved Kai too much, you sacrificed Amelia’s life,” Ezra answered calmly, but every word felt painfully sharp. “You shouldn’t have forced them to get married back then.”

“Don’t blame your mother,” Osvar interrupted quickly. “Everything that happened was already Amelia’s fate.”

“Fate?” Ezra let out a cynical smile. “A fate that you yourselves wrote for her?”

That sentence made Osvar fall silent.
“From the very beginning, you already knew Amelia refused to marry Kai,” Ezra continued. “But Dad threatened Uncle Harri by canceling the ongoing investment. You deliberately left Uncle Harri with no choice but to sacrifice Amelia.”

No one answered.

“Is that what you call fate, Dad?” Ezra asked sharply.

Miranda slowly collapsed onto the sofa weakly.
Her chest felt painfully tight hearing every word her son said.
Because deep inside her heart, she knew Ezra was right.

She had been the one who pushed Osvar the hardest to do everything possible to make Amelia marry Kai.

“I thought Kai loved Amelia…” Miranda whispered regretfully.

“Kai will never escape Tania’s shadow,” Ezra snapped angrily. “He was hopelessly in love with that woman. Even after Tania caused Amelia to miscarry, Kai still defended her.”

Miranda covered her mouth as she held back her tears.

“But now they’re back together,” Osvar said, trying to defend himself. “Dad is sure Saga won’t hurt Amelia again. If he ever…”

“If he ever what?” Ezra cut him off immediately.
His gaze sharpened toward his father.

“If Amelia gets hurt again?” his voice began to rise. “How long are you going to treat Amelia’s life like some kind of experiment for Kai?”

Ezra truly could not understand.
How could his parents gamble Amelia’s life for the second time?

Did they not have hearts?
Osvar looked away. He could not deny his son’s words.

Deep inside, he knew everything Ezra said was true. But his pride was too high to easily admit all those mistakes.

Osvar let out a long sigh.
“I never wanted to make Amelia’s life an experiment,” he said quietly. “I just wanted to give Kai a chance to fix his mistakes.”

“Stop defending yourself, Dad,” Ezra interrupted coldly. “Do you know why Uncle Harri ended up having a heart attack? You should never have given Saga that much power over ADIJAYA Company.”
Ezra stared sharply at his father.

“What Kai is doing is not fixing mistakes,” he continued firmly. “He’s threatening Amelia. Just like before.”

Osvar remained silent for a very long time before finally lowering his head slowly.
“I’m sorry…” he said quietly in the end.

But Ezra only smiled bitterly.
“Your apology is useless now.”
His gaze moved between Osvar and Miranda. “I’ve obeyed all of your wishes,” he said firmly. “But this time, I’m going to do what I should have done a long time ago.”

Ezra’s gaze turned cold.
“No one better stand in my way.”
After saying that, Ezra walked away and left the living room.

Miranda stared at her son’s retreating figure as tears began falling down her cheeks.
“I’m sorry, Daddy…” Miranda whispered full of regret. “All of this happened because of me.”
Osvar let out a long sigh before sitting beside his wife.

“It’s not just you,” he replied quietly. “I was wrong too.”

Silence once again filled the house.
And amidst the regret that came far too late, Osvar finally realized one thing.....
“Sometimes, a parent’s love… can also become a disaster for their children.”
