Chapter287
“She wouldn’t come. Should I hogtie her?”
Sean fumed and slammed the phone down.
He went to invite Katherine to dine at the Robsons‘ yesterday in a gentle tone, never expecting to be rejected.
Sean was in a foul mood. He summoned the manager and pointed at Adrian: “Charge him triple for today’s expenses.”
He wanted to see whether Adrian truly had money now.
The manager nodded repeatedly.
Geoffrey left work early. On his way home, he made sure to have someone prepare a bouquet.
Maureen watched Geoffrey being chauffeured around outside. She simply couldn’t believe he was someone drowning in debt.
Her eyes fell on the enormous bouquet of de–anthered flowers he carried home today. A suspicion arose–was he deceiving her?
“Reenie, for you.”
The moment Geoffrey stepped inside, he offered the flowers to Maureen.
She didn’t take them. “Where did you get the money for flowers?
Didn’t we agree you’d save every penny to pay off debts?”
Geoffrey replied without batting an eye: “Leftover flowers from a company event. No one wanted them. I remembered you love flowers, so I brought them home for you.”
“Oh.”
Maureen accepted the bouquet. “Thanks.”
Then she added: “How about I visit your company tomorrow? Perhaps?”
After a moment of silence, Geoffrey spoke: “That place is run–down. You’re pregnant–it wouldn’t

be convenient.”
“It’s fine. I’ll just take a distant look from afar,” Maureen replied.
Seeing no way to refuse, Geoffrey agreed
“Alright.”
He then went to his room to change clothes.
Once inside, he immediately called Wayne.
“Set up a charity company tonight. Get the owner and staff properly arranged.”

Wayne was cooking for his fiancee when the order came, his face twisting like a bitter gourd.
“Boss, why not just tell Mrs. Sutton the truth?
Women always care about money.”
“Just do it.” Geoffrey cut him off.
If Maureen discovered his remaining wealth, she’d file for divorce instantly.
He knew Maureen better than anyone–her greatest flaw was that soft heart.
Wayne had no choice but to leave his fiancee and make arrangements.
That soft heart wasn’t unique to Maureen–Zoe had it too.
Ever since learning Geoffrey’s identity had been replaced by his younger brother and his mother had disowned him, Zoe pitied him.
Considering the caregivers he’d arranged, the family chef he provided, the freedom to request any meal, and how neighbors started singing his praises…
They said he helped build the road, and when some families didn’t have running water, he made a call and got it fixed.
“Zoe, you found a great son–in–law. Not only is he handsome, but he’s also truly capable.”
“Yeah, how many blind men can be as outstanding as him? He dresses neatly and keeps himself tidy every day. Except for not seeing, he’s perfect.”
Zoe felt her health had improved recently. Listening to these talks, she gradually accepted Geoffrey.

“As long as he doesn’t change and keeps treating Reenie well, that’s enough.”

Sometimes when Maureen was at home composing music, she could hear Zoe chatting with the neighbors about Geoffrey.
Even so, she didn’t dare let her guard down.
Early the next morning, after Jacob went to school.
She got in the car with Geoffrey and headed to his company.
“How much is your monthly salary for this chauffeur service?”
Maureen asked.
Geoffrey thought for a moment. “Ten thousand.”
Ten thousand…
Maureen remembered when she first graduated and worked outside, she only made thirty–five hundred a month.
Now Katherine works as a clerk in a small company and only makes four thousand.
“You found a pretty good job.”
“Wayne introduced me to a friend who’s the boss.”
Geoffrey lied without batting an eye.
“Oh.”
They finally arrived.
Maureen saw an office building in the distance–neither luxurious nor shabby.
Geoffrey and Maureen got out of the car one after another, not yet approaching the entrance.
A potbellied man and several office workers emerged.
“Mr. Geoffrey, you’re here! Please, let me show you to your office,”
the leading man said, bowing slightly.
“And this is?”

The middle–aged man immediately explained. “Oh. I’m the boss of Small Town Charity”
Since when do bosses bow and scrape like this to employees?
Geoffrey interjected, “Boss, get back to work. Don’t worry about me–I know my way around.”
“Oh, oh, okay.”
Only then did the man leave with his junior staff.
His legs trembled as he walked away.
He recognized Geoffrey–once a powerful figure who commanded storms.
Geoffrey explained to Maureen: “People in our line of work have good hearts. Especially the boss- he fears I might stumble, so he always sends staff to greet me at the door.”
“Oh, that’s considerate.”
Maureen followed Geoffrey to his office.
The moment she opened the door, she was taken aback.
