Chapter288
Although Geoffrey’s office wasn’t big, it was surprisingly covered with all kinds of news articles- about missing children, funding for deaf and mute kids, and so on.
Maureen walked in and looked around; there were also computers and phones specially designed for the blind.
The doubts in her heart were temporarily put to rest.
“You focus on your work, I won’t disturb you.”
“Alright, I’ll walk you out.”
Geoffrey knew she believed him now; the weight in his chest lifted.
“No need, your work is important.”
Maureen left the place alone.
On her way back, she called Katherine: “Katherine, I went to Geoffrey’s company–it really is in the charity and rescue business.”
Before, she’d privately chatted with Katherine.
“Has he fallen so low now?”
Katherine asked while working.
“Actually, I think his current job’s pretty good–helping others, living an ordinary life.”
Maureen had always wanted a plain and simple life.
“Reenie, you’re not softening toward him, are you? Wanting to forgive him and start over?
He’s blind now. If you’re with him, what if one day he recovers his memory, his eyesight comes back, and he goes back to his old self? What then?”
Maureen didn’t know how to answer for a moment.
Maureen

forever.
“Still, I can’t divorce him now. I’ll just play it by car.”

“Fair enough. Just make sure to protect your personal assets–don’t let him swindle you,” Katherine advised.
Maureen suddenly remembered: the household chef and caregiver were currently paid by Geoffrey.
With his massive debts, where did he get money for them?
Returning home, Maureen asked about their salaries. Both gave identical answers:
The caregiver earned just six thousand monthly, while the chef charged only three thousand for cooking three meals a day.
Maureen requested their bank details to handle future payments herself.
The moment she left, they secretly called Wayne.
Fortunately, Geoffrey had anticipated the salary issue–they’d quoted Maureen the lowest possible
rates.
“Good job. From now on, buy budget ingredients whenever you cook or shop,” Wayne instructed.
He privately thought his boss was deliberately inviting hardship through pointless schemes.
Pretending to be poor despite having wealth? If Wayne had that kind of money, what woman wouldn’t he have?
Shaking off his thoughts, Wayne brought recent documents to Geoffrey.
“Boss, these are all Corporate Giant’s projects. I’ve taken over most of them.”
“Mhm.”
Geoffrey took the document.
“Alex, we’ve got that final hospital treatment this afternoon. Your memory should come back completely.”
Mentioning full memory recovery made Geoffrey recall Alex’s words and the letter Maureen left
him when she walked out.
“Cancel all treatments. I’m done with them.”

Wayne couldn’t hide his surprise: “Why?”
“Why so many questions lately?”
Geoffrey shot back.
Wayne instantly clamped his mouth shut.
After Wayne left with the processed files, Geoffrey sank into deep gloom.
She never loved me–only Alex?

These days, Maureen either composed at home or chatted with Zoe, completely unaware Geoffrey’s memories had returned.
That afternoon after lunch, just as she considered a walk, her phone rang.
Adrian’s drunken voice slurred through the receiver: “Sis, please go see Alex. I’m begging you.”
Maureen knitted her brows.
Adrian kept rambling: “You don’t know how much humiliation I’ve suffered these years. I used to be the one bullying others!”
“Sis, help me out. Alex will bail us out if you just meet him.”
Maureen had no patience for this and was about to hang up when Adrian suddenly slurred: “If Mom hadn’t tricked me, the Ramirez Family wouldn’t have collapsed.”
“What do you mean?”
Maureen demanded immediately.
Adrian sat slumped on the sidewalk, thoroughly drunk and disheveled.
Minutes before this call, he’d been thrown out of the VIP Club. Raymond had frozen his cards, leaving him unable to pay–and getting beaten for it.
“You think our fortune vanished in three years by accident?
Mom made me transfer everything to her lover, Raymond!”
“Now the Thompsons have money and power–they’ve cut me off! Froze my damn cards and got me beaten half to death. If Sean hadn’t stepped in, I’d be dead.”

Adrian spilled everything
Maureen listened in silence, finally shedding her naivety.
She’d assumed Noelle met Mr. Thompson after moving abroad. How wrong she was.
“Are you saying Noelle got involved with another man right after Dad died?”
Adrian was a bit more sober now and stammered, “I, I don’t know about that.

“Just go meet Alex and help me this once. I’m your own brother, we share blood. If I make a comeback, you’ll still be the heiress of the Ramirez Family.”
As soon as Adrian finished speaking, the call disconnected on the other end.
Maureen clenched her phone, standing frozen, feeling a chill down her spine.
