Chapter263
He called out obediently.
Elizabeth offered no warmth, responding with a cold “Hmm” before scurrying away to her room like avoiding a rat.
Adrian noted her disdain, discomfort twisting inside him though he forced himself not to show it.
Seeing his injuries healed, Noelle inquired, “Did you need something?”
“Mom, when exactly will Dad give me the startup funds he promised?”
Adrian pressed.
He refused to keep living under someone else’s roof.
The Thompson residence had never been his home!
At the mention of money, Noelle’s expression shifted subtly as she sipped her tea.
“Son, listen to me. Be content as the second young master. Don’t chase pipe dreams–you’re simply not cut out for business.
The message couldn’t be clearer: no money would come.
Adrian instantly understood–Raymond and his mother had been deceiving him all along.
But now, he was powerless and no match for Raymond, and even his daughter Elizabeth could look down on him.
After all, his own sister Maureen didn’t dare treat him this way.
Thinking of Maureen, Adrian thought of Geoffrey and instantly had an idea: since Raymond was unwilling to give him money, he could go ask his brother–in–law for money!
As CEO of Corporate Headquarters, Geoffrey certainly wasn’t short on money.
Adrian thought this and acted immediately, driving straight to Corporate Headquarters‘ building.
He’d worried Geoffrey might refuse to see him, but after phoning the front desk and the CEO’s Office secretary, Geoffrey actually invited him upstairs.

What Adrian didn’t know was that the man seated in the CEO’s Office wasn’t his brother–in–law Geoffrey at all, but Geoffrey’s twin brother Alex.
“Brother–in–law.”
Adrian called out to Alex, who radiated relined elegance before him.
Alex looked up at him. “What brings you here?”
“Brother–in–law, I need financial backing to revive the Ramirez and make a comeback.”
The Ramirez was built from a small factory by Adrian’s grandfather. Mr. Ramirez had once been Karaville’s wealthiest man, a legendary figure across the northern region.
Yet under his father’s management, the business declined steadily. When passed to Adrian, it plunged straight into bankruptcy.
He refused to accept this!
Why could his grandfather create a legend, but he couldn’t?
Alex had anticipated Adrian’s plea for money. His assistant Lisa had gathered intel: ever since Maureen married Geoffrey, Adrian had constantly sought Geoffrey’s help.
Pity Geoffrey always despised him, refusing assistance outright.
Unexpectedly, he showed up at the door again at this time.
“Brother-in–law, I know you genuinely care for my sister. If you fund me, I’ll convince her to drop this divorce nonsense.”
Adrian added.
He’d begged Geoffrey multiple times before, always rejected.
His courage now came from Geoffrey defending Maureen last time.
As a man, he knew damn well: you only help a woman when you care about her.
Alex tapped the desk with slender fingers, listening silently before speaking:
“Get your sister to talk to me, and I’ll help you.”
Adrian’s eyes lit up. “Okay! I’ll find her right now.”
He bolted from the office without another word.

The moment he left, Lisa frowned. “Alex, are you really helping him?

My investigation shows he’s a useless sack–nothing like Joshua Ramirez’s bloodline. Funding him is throwing money down the drain.”
Alex knew. He just wanted to see someone.
He’d thought Maureen would confront him the moment he returned–demand explanations.
But she never did…
Even now, knowing he and Geoffrey weren’t the same person, she hadn’t questioned him.
Alex never answered Lisa.
Small Town.
Maureen listed out all the potential partners.
These were all domestic, but she had no agent back home.
“BOSS, should I fly back?”
Betty suggested.
Since Maureen disliked public appearances, Betty usually handled negotiations while Maureen stayed behind the scenes.
“Alright, thanks. I’ll give you a raise.”
Maureen replied.
“Don’t mention it.”
Betty hung up and immediately booked her flight.
After finishing her tasks, Maureen settled on the sofa, about to close her eyes for a rest.
The door swung open from outside, a chill rushed in. She opened her eyes to see Geoffrey followed by several bodyguards in suits.
“What’s this?”
“Bodyguards. Pick one to take Roy to school. The others can protect you.

Geoffrey stated
Maureen’s gaze swept over them. She wasn’t one to judge by locks, but these bodygude appearances were hard to describe.
“No need. Justin taking Roy and protecting me is more than enough ”
Geoffrey paused before saying: “Justin doesn’t sit right with me.”
Maureen clearly misunderstood Geoffrey’s concern.
She immediately told Geoffrey how skilled Justin was–how he could take on ten men single- handedly, never lost his temper, and always let his actions speak louder than words.
The more virtues she listed, the more Geoffrey wanted him gone.
“Send them away. I don’t like strangers.”
Maureen added.
Was it strangers he disliked, or just ugly ones?
