Chapter262
Now that he couldn’t see, he had to use that excuse.
Hearing this, the others at the table were all shocked.
Maureen knew Geoffrey best from the past. She knew he never did charity work sincerely; it was always for the company’s reputation.
Now he was choosing to do charity work for the disabled? It was truly unbelievable.
Since he had changed now and was set on doing good, Maureen decided to gradually change her opinion of him.
“How much can your job possibly pay?
Use my card.
She could easily cover daily expenses now–long gone were the days of being a jobless housewife.
“No need.”
Geoffrey left the card on the table. He barely touched his chopsticks before heading out.
Maureen didn’t mind. His refusal meant nothing; living together as a family, he’d naturally share household costs. Satisfied with this logic, she pocketed the bank card.
She never checked the balance. Had she done so, she’d have discovered every cent remained untouched.
Tomorrow was Christmas.
Maureen and Betty had agreed: this track’s premiere would launch domestically.
They’d gauge its reception after release.
That night, Maureen enjoyed a rare good night’s sleep and woke early.
To her surprise, Geoffrey was already dressed for work when she descended the stairs.
“Can you manage going alone?”
She casually asked, eyeing him in his neatly pressed suit.

Geoffrey paused mid–step. “The company car will pick me up.

“…” Maureen froze. Ordinary jobs didn’t provide chauffeur services–most workers got docked pay for tardiness. Yet he rated corporate transportation?
Watching Geollrey leave, Maureen went to prepare breakfast for Roy and Justin.
Since Roy’s kindergarten was too far away, Maureen had to ask Justin for help.
Justin didn’t refuse–his job was protecting Maureen, and Maureen was his boss.
Meanwhile, after Geoffrey walked out, his driver and Wayne were waiting by the roadside.
After getting in the car,
Geoffrey asked Wayne: “Answer me this–what does Maureen’s bodyguard look like?”
Back overseas, Geoffrey had Wayne investigate Justin before, but they’d uncovered little information.
Geoffrey’s memory hadn’t fully returned, so he couldn’t recall Justin’s appearance.
Hearing the sudden question, Wayne vividly described:
“Seems mixed heritage, deep features, tall and powerfully built.”
Basically meaning one word: handsome.
Geoffrey’s expression darkened: “Find me a few reliable bodyguards.”
“We’ve got plenty. What kind of reliable?”
Wayne asked.
He assumed it was work–related, until Geoffrey added: “Average–looking ones. Preferably ugly.”
“Huh?”
Wayne froze in stunned silence.
Geoffrey clarified: “Ugly ones are safer.”
Handsome is as handsome does.
Geoffrey thought of Gareth and asked Wayne, “Is Gareth still alive?”

“He was badly injured but rescued by his men. He’s receiving treatment abroad now.”
Wayne answered.
Geoffrey frowned deeply.
Still breathing? That man’s got nine lives.

Maureen’s new song release shot straight to fifth on trending topics. Numerous collaborators sought partnerships, with many specifically requesting her compositions.
While replying to inquiries, Betty called Maureen: “BOSS, Elizabeth just responded. She loved the piece and wants exclusive rights.”
Mentioning Elizabeth reminded Maureen of that ballet video she’d seen days ago–it would pair perfectly with this composition.
“Exclusive rights need further consideration.”
“Okay.”
Betty agreed readily before hesitantly adding, “Well… that mysterious sponsor insists on meeting you personally to discuss collaboration.”
Persistent indeed.
Haunted by past experiences with dubious patrons, Maureen had no interest.
“No.”
“But he promised you won’t regret it. He even offered to invest in our company.”
Betty pressed.
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
Betty, it’s best for us to focus on steady work.
Okay, Boss.
Honestly, Betty was curious why the mystery man insisted on seeing Alex, especially since he’d offered ten billion in funding.
That kind of money meant he was no small player.

Since Maureen objected, Betty couldn’t press further and politely declined.
But remarkably, he still bought the copyright to Maureen’s previously released song.

Inside the Governor’s Mansion.
After returning, Elizabeth got a message from Maestro Shi’s company denying exclusive rights.
Her elegant brows knitted slightly: “I absolutely must have exclusivity for this composition.”
Noelle approached her.
Elizabeth, what happened?
Who upset you?
Elizabeth showed her the phone: “I desperately want this piece, but they refuse exclusivity.”
Noelle took the phone and examined it.
She murmured: “Maestro Shi…”
Yes, an internationally renowned composer.
Could we negotiate directly if we found her?
Noelle asked.
Elizabeth shook her head: “Nobody’s ever seen Maestro Shi’s true appearance.”
A faint smile touched Noelle’s lips.
Just let Mom handle this.
She used to be an internationally renowned dancer with many connections in the music industry. Investigating should reveal who Teacher Shi is.
Elizabeth beamed with joy upon hearing her mother had a solution and hugged her tightly.
“Mom, you’re the best! Mwah.”
Noelle radiated maternal warmth.
As Adrian walked downstairs, the scene struck him as oddly grating.
