Chapter264
Geoffrey didn’t dare ask, motioning the bodyguards to step outside.
Since Maureen refused to cooperate, Geoffrey decided to approach Justin directly.
Maureen dismissed Geoffrey’s sudden interest as a passing whim, paying it no mind.
Meanwhile, Adrian learned Maureen’s address from their mother and headed straight for Small
Town.
He arrived at her doorstep at 10 PM.
Everyone had already turned in for the night.
Shivering against the bitter wind, Adrian knocked.
Maureen hadn’t fallen asleep yet. Hearing the knock, she crawled out from under the covers to
answer.
When she opened the door, she found Adrian bundled up tight in a puffer jacket, snow dusted across his shoulders.
Without a word, Adrian tried to push past her into the house, but Maureen blocked the doorway.
“What are you doing here?”
“Let’s talk inside.”
The cold was biting.
Maureen eyed him warily, blocking the doorway. “Whatever it is, say it here.”
In the past, Adrian would’ve shoved her aside. But today, he stood shivering in the cold wind, needing her help.
“Sister, could you do me a favor?”
Sister…
Maureen’s lips curled into a bitter smile. “Second Young Master, I’m not your sister. Or have you forgotten? You said it yourself–a deaf woman like me isn’t worthy of being your sister.”

“That was childish nonsense! I never meant it seriously. Why hold onto it?”

Adrian’s gaze drifted past her into the cramped apartment. What madness made her abandon the Sutton Family mansion for this shabby place?
Keeping his voice honey–sweet, he pressed on. “Sister, please… do it for the Ramirez Family?
I just need one small sacrifice from you to make my comeback–barely a sacrifice at all…”
“Sacrifice?”
Maureen’s knuckles whitened as she clenched her fists. “Who are you selling me to this time?”
“Just meet your husband! If you agree to see him, he’ll help us rebuild Ramirez.”
Adrian gripped her shoulders, staring intently. “Sister, wouldn’t you want Ramirez restored?” “Are you really willing to let Grandpa and Dad’s life work go down the drain?”
Brother–in–law…
Maureen froze for a second.
“Which brother–in–law are you talking about?”
“Geoffrey, of course. I went to Corporate Giant today and met him. He said as long as you talk to him, he’ll help me.”
Adrian answered without hesitation.
Maureen’s mind instantly went on high alert.
She knew it wasn’t Geoffrey at Corporate Headquarters, but Alex.
Her eyelashes lowered slightly as she didn’t know what to say.
She’d thought about seeing Alex too, to ask about the past.
But she was already a mother of two, and pregnant again. What’s done should stay done.
“I don’t want to see him.”
What would happen if she went to see Alex?
Would old flames reignite? Would they just reminisce?

Maureen looked at Adrian’s handsome face, so reminiscent of their father: “Adrian, you’re an adult now. Don’t expect others to solve everything. In this world, it’s best to rely on ourselves.”
Adrian hadn’t expected Maureen not only to refuse him but also to lecture him. He immediately grabbed her shoulders with bruising force.
“Can’t help and still yapping? Useless!”
“Knew you’d fail me. You chose mediocrity–think I’ll rot like you?
Dream on!
I’m the grandson of a tycoon! Like father, like son–I’ll revive the Ramirez. You don’t deserve the name!”
He shoved Maureen hard.
She stumbled backward, nearly falling.
A steady arm caught her.
“Alright?” Geoffrey’s low voice brushed her ear.
Maureen tried urging him inside, too late. Adrian gaped at Geoffrey.
“Brother–in–law? You–why here?
If you’re home, why make me drag my sister to Corporate Giant?”
He couldn’t tell this wasn’t the man he’d met earlier.
Geoffrey spared no explanation.
“Get out!”
Ice laced the command.
Adrian’s arrogance vanished. He scrambled away.
Once gone, Maureen’s belly ached–perhaps the scuffle had agitated the baby.
“Geoffrey, it hurts.”
Panic flooded her eyes as she clutched his shirt.
The pain was secondary; what truly terrified her was the baby’s safety.

She remembered how close Ethan and Jacob had come to being lost…
Geoffrey held her tight: “I’m taking you to the hospital now.”
“Okay.”
He picked up his phone and dialed.
Within a minute, their nearby driver arrived.

During the ride, Maureen clutched Geoffrey’s shirt with one hand while gently resting the other on her belly.
Only those who’ve carried life understand this bone–deep fear.
Please be okay, little one.
They reached the hospital where doctors examined Maureen thoroughly.
Geoffrey waited outside, calling his team to investigate Adrian.
He recalled Adrian claiming “you sent me to find Maureen“…
The other me–that could only mean Alex.
Why would Alex want Maureen?
Why can’t I remember anything?
His memories still hadn’t fully returned.
Soon, his investigator reported: “Adrian visited Alex at Corporate Headquarters this afternoon. Purpose unknown–he left smiling.”
“He drove straight to Small Town afterward.
Geoffrey pieced it together.
