Chapter 154 I Want to Make Peace with You
After dinner, Candice stayed with the two little ones in the pavilion in the yard for a while.
Around eight o'clock, they were taken upstairs by Orla for their baths.
Candice stayed there alone, enjoying the cool breeze.
That's when Brandon came over.
With his long strides, he walked straight to the seat across from her and sat down, not treating himself as a guest at all. His voice was low and calm as he asked, "Where are the kids?"
Candice just glanced at him and replied coolly, "Taking baths. What are you doing here?"
Brandon studied her for a moment, confirming from her expression that she was still upset. He frowned and asked, "This afternoon, didn't the flower shop deliver flowers to your company?"
Did he need to come to her in person and repeat the whole thing about cutting ties?
Candice took a light sip of her coffee and answered, "I received them. I already understand what you mean. Does Mr. Obelon need to make a special trip to say it again?"
Brandon was confused.
He asked, "If you received them, why are you still acting like this? Still upset about last night?"
After hearing this, Candice couldn't help but sneer, "What's wrong with my attitude? Since Mr. Obelon wants to cut ties clearly, naturally I'll follow your wishes. In fact, I was already planning to wait until Elijah's condition improved a bit, then talk to him about how I'll be returning to Silverlight City in the future, so he can accept the reality in advance."
Brandon didn't expect that after receiving the flowers, not only had she not calmed down, but she was saying things like this again. His brows immediately furrowed tightly, and even his tone carried displeasure.
"Candice, what do you mean by 'cut ties clearly'? I already told you, those things I said last night were said while drunk, and I don't remember much. Those flowers were meant as an apology."
By the end, Brandon's tone was somewhat stiff.
This was his first time doing something like this.
He felt somewhat uncomfortable.
But Candice clearly didn't believe him. She said, "Who sends yellow roses to apologize?"
Brandon's expression froze, obviously not catching on yet. He instinctively responded, "What's wrong with yellow roses?"
Candice said mockingly, "What do you think is wrong? Don't you know what yellow roses represent?"
Brandon's heart sank, finally understanding.
He frowned, remembering that when he placed the order this morning, he had only told the flower shop he wanted all their yellow roses.
He had looked it up online.
The yellow roses he ordered were a very precious variety.
But who knew there was meaning in the flower language?
And it resulted in such a mix-up?
Brandon was suddenly at a loss for words, really not knowing how to explain this to Candice.
Candice stopped paying attention to him and just drank her coffee.
Brandon pondered for a long while, and finally could only say stiffly, "This is my first time ordering flowers for someone. I didn't know about all these details, so I only told the flower shop what flowers to send, without thinking much about it!"
"It wasn't meant to cut ties clearly. I made it very clear this morning that Elijah will continue to stay at your place!"
After hearing this explanation, Candice felt somewhat skeptical.
Was it really such a coincidence?
She studied Brandon's tense face but couldn't detect any sign of deception.
But thinking about it, he didn't really need to lie about something like this to deceive her.
So, had she really misunderstood?
For a moment, Candice didn't know what to say.
In the suffocating silence, Brandon was still observing Candice's expression.
He could see that after hearing his explanation, Candice's expression had softened slightly, so he calmly poured himself a cup of coffee from the table, took a light sip, and continued, "Next time, I'll pay attention to these things."
Next time?
Candice looked at him with confusion. Why would there be a next time?
Just as she was about to think deeper, Brandon suddenly felt something was off.
He looked around.
Why was there a scent of roses?
Then he looked at the vase over there, which seemed to contain a bunch of yellow roses.
What a coincidence!
Brandon raised an eyebrow and stared at Candice, asking, "What's that?"
Candice was interrupted from her thoughts by this question.
She snapped back to attention and instinctively looked at the bouquet of roses.
It was exactly the dried roses that Anais had processed and given to her today.
For some reason, in front of Brandon, she suddenly felt guilty and quickly avoided his gaze, vaguely saying, "Just ordinary flowers I bought myself."
But Brandon didn't believe her.
He narrowed his deep eyes, suddenly stood up, leaned across the table, lifted Candice's chin with one hand, and forced her to look at him.
His voice was low as he asked again, "Candice, look into my eyes and tell me again, what is that?"
Candice frowned, wanting to escape his control.
But how could Brandon allow that?
He directly used his other hand, holding her face with both hands, and repeated insistently, "Tell me!"
Candice thought to herself, 'You're the one forcing me to say this.'
She stopped hiding it and replied directly, "They are indeed yellow roses, but they're made from the flowers you sent. Originally, I planned to throw the flowers away this morning, but later my assistant thought it would be too wasteful to throw them away, so she made them into dried flowers."
After saying this, Candice quickly pried open Brandon's hands, turned around and ran, moving so nimbly she seemed like a completely different person from usual.
Brandon stood there, actually laughing in frustration.
This woman!
Had Candice actually wanted to throw away the flowers he sent?
Sure enough, Finnian's suggestion was unreliable!
He was completely a player with negative romantic cells!
Sending her flowers was no different from sending her medicinal herbs—the final use was to be made into something useful for the body.
She was really something!
Although he felt a bit dissatisfied about this, Brandon quickly accepted reality.
Making them into dried flowers was better than throwing them away anyway, so he didn't bother arguing about it!
After Candice ran back to her room in one breath, she didn't come downstairs again, and didn't even know when Brandon left.
It wasn't until the next morning at the breakfast table that she saw him again.
Brandon was a bit different today, he was dressed more formally.
Usually, he just casually wore a black or white shirt, but today he wore a full suit, even with a matching tie at his collar.
The shirt buttons were fastened all the way to the last one, less casual than usual, more reserved and restrained.
Dressed so properly, he looked quite handsome.
After glancing at him, Candice calmly looked away and ate her breakfast.
Brandon didn't know what she was thinking, and just told her, "I'm going on a business trip for the next few days. I'm not sure when I'll be back. I'll have to trouble you to take care of Elijah."
Candice felt a strange feeling inside.
If he was going on a business trip, why did he need to come tell her specifically?
It gave her the feeling of a husband going away and specifically instructing his wife to take care of the child.
She dismissed that strange feeling and responded, "You don't need to tell me that. I'll naturally take good care of him."
Then she remembered something, "Oh, right, the school arranged for physical examinations. Elijah and Yasmin won't go to the hospital—I'll take them to the research institute today. Does Elijah have any drug allergies?"
Brandon didn't think much about it and replied, "No."
Candice nodded and said, "Okay."
Then she continued eating breakfast.
The two didn't speak again.
After breakfast, Brandon didn't delay and got into the car Knox came to pick him up in.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to remind Elijah, "Dad won't be here, so you need to behave yourself, understand?"
Elijah cooperatively nodded his little head, indicating he understood.
Then Brandon rubbed Yasmin's little head and said, "I'll bring you a gift when I come back."
Yasmin nodded her little head, smiling sweetly, "Thank you, Brandon. Have a safe trip."
Finally, Brandon looked at Candice and said warmly, "Wait for me to come back."
