The Day Demetri Returned

The Day Demetri Returned
Four Months Later

Standing outside of his castle, Demetri took in the air. It had been four months and now that he was back, he couldn’t decide how he felt about it. On one hand, he was stronger and couldn’t wait to show his Clan, on the other he couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that his Little One was now a wolf. He forced the thought out of his mind. Today wasn’t about his heart, it was about his return, and though he’d kept in contact with everyone, he’d missed seeing them in person.

Arriving inside, he called out.

“JERRY! I KNOW YOU’RE HERE!” Seeing his friend emerge from his office, made Demetri smile. They embraced one another.

“I’m so glad that you’re back Primus.” He gave him a small smile.

“Honestly? Me too. I learned a lot from my trip but there is nothing like being home.” Jerry tilted his head.

“You sure that’s the only reason?” He sighed.

“Please don’t start with me Jerry, I've just returned. I’ve missed the entire Clan and I want to start and end the day on a good note.” Nodding his head, Jerry decided it best to drop the subject.

“Well, not too much has changed…except.” He made a face.

“Except what?” Jerry looked to the floor.

"It’s Tracey…she’s been so distant. I don’t want to believe that she’d cheat on me, but I don’t know what else to think.” Demetri eyed him.

"What has she been doing?” Jerry shook his head.

"She doesn’t want to be touched, she sleeps all day and she showers all the time. Whenever I try to talk to her about what’s going on, she snaps at me, or she says nothing at all…I don’t know what to do.” Demetri placed his hand to his chin.

"I could always call in my therapist if you think it would help.” Jerry's eyes gleamed.

“That honestly would be amazing. I’ll see if Tracey is open to the idea.” Demetri patted his back.

"Anything for a friend.”

Sitting at his desk, Demetri looked at the picture of Mavier. “Hey old friend, I have so much to tell you. I've traveled, made friends and even brought a few new Clan members back. I want to tell you everything though you aren’t right there in that picture anymore are you?” Standing he turned to Jerry. “Do you mind if I take some time alone?’ Saying nothing else, Jerry exited from his office.

Leaving immediately after, Demetri found himself in the garden. The flowers still beautifully kept as he asked the servant to do. The Lily’s thriving, the Forget Me Not blooming, the Daisy making their way.

He gently caressed one. “Well, aren’t you just growing?” Looking around his eyes locked onto the greenhouse. He hesitated, and then slowly made his way there. Walking inside he saw the gang of tulips and grabbed the nearby gloves. He dropped to his knees.

“I see that they didn’t take as good of care of you as I had hoped. Mavier, you need a good pruning.” He worked as best as he could. “Sterling, Jordan, and Elijah don’t you dare give me a hard time, or Morgan and Rachel will get you. Eugene...don't tell Jerry your name, it just fits you so well.” He laughed as he pruned the tulips named after all his friends.

His heart sank as he looked to one, he didn’t want to touch. The smallest of them all, that somehow looked the brightest. He sighed. “Hi Little One, aren’t you just growing tall?” Pruning the tulip, he accidentally cut his finger through his glove.

“FUCK!” He screamed, his rage pouring through him. Remembering the words of his therapist, he took a deep breath. He readjusted his gloves and started over. “Please bear with me Little One, I’m truly trying my best. I-I know I'm still a bit rough, but eventually I promise I'll figure it out. Just please don't give up on me okay?” He spoke low as he tried again. Satisfied with the job he did, he looked at the last flower bush, and sighed. It was one that needed the most work, and he wasn't sure what to do. Giving up, he started to stand.

“What about that one?”

The voice behind him stopped his heart. Turning, he saw Alexus bright eyes looking at him. “What about that one?” She repeated pointing to a flower that didn’t belong. One with beautiful red petals, and thorns on its stem.

“It needs a lot of work, I try, but it takes me a little longer.” He watched the small smile fall to her lips, as she grabbed another pair of gloves. Crouching down beside him, she covered his hands with hers. The small surge of electricity that pulled through them, made Demetri stare at her.

Maneuvering his hand, she aided him in taking care of the plant. “Just because a rose needs a bit more work, doesn’t mean it can’t be pruned. Doesn’t mean it can’t be nourished…doesn’t mean it can’t be loved.” She dusted her hands. “There, just as beautiful as the rest." Looking at her, Demetri couldn’t believe that she was there. He stuttered.

“W-what are you doing here Alexus?” Smiling sweetly, she reached into her pocket and pulled something from it, holding it in her hand.

“I’m just here to lend a hand that’s all. Sometimes a rose that grows from the concrete needs a bit more help. But then again you would know that wouldn’t you Blue Eyes?” His eyes widened.

“What did you call me?” She laughed.

“You fucking heard me you son of a bitch.” He shook his head in disbelief.

“I don’t-“

“You made me forget.”

His mouth dried as she glared at him before throwing two vials at him one blue, the other purple. She folded her arms to her chest, and sized up the Primus.

"You're going to explain yourself Demetri, and you're going to right this second."
