Chapter 89 Chapter 40
Chapter 89 Chapter 40
Two weeks had passed since Tyeron, Mikael, and Meruem arrived in Japan, but they still had no lead. It devastated Tyeron because he missed Lhalhaine so much.
Tyeron rubbed his face as he stared at the surveillance monitor showing the area outside the hideout they were watching. He looked up when someone placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Your sigh was so deep. Are you okay?" Mikael asked.
He scratched the back of his neck.
"I miss her," he murmured.
Mikael chuckled softly.
"This is exactly why I'm not a fan of the illness called 'being in love.' It makes you look like a fool," he said, shaking his head as he sat beside him.
"You can only say that because Cupid hasn't aimed an arrow at your heart yet. If he ever does, I'll be the one laughing at you, dude," Tyeron replied seriously as he turned his attention back to the monitor.
Both of them suddenly looked up when Meruem cursed and abruptly stood.
He had been the one who entered first to install the hidden cameras so they could monitor everything happening inside.
"What's wrong?" Tyeron asked worriedly.
"Yeah, Meruem, what's wrong?" Mikael asked as well.
"I think they've discovered us," Meruem whispered.
Both men cursed at the same time.
"Retreat for now, Meruem. We need to get out of here immediately," Mikael said quickly.
"I can't," Meruem whispered.
Tyeron and Mikael exchanged glances.
"He needs backup," Tyeron said.
Mikael nodded.
"You stay here. I'll distract them so Meruem can get back safely—"
Before he could finish, Mikael cut him off.
"It's dangerous, dude. Let me come with you."
"No! How are we supposed to leave this place quickly if no one's left here? Just trust me, Bud. I won't die."
He smiled.
"I'm getting married, and you're my best man."
Mikael let out a sigh.
"I plan to keep myself, you, and Meruem safe," Tyeron replied with a smirk.
He saluted Mikael before leaving their hiding place to rescue Meruem.
"Hello. Can you hear me, Meruem?" he asked softly through the communicator.
"Yes. Over," Meruem replied.
"Where are you, Bud?" he asked.
Meruem explained that he was on the rooftop, recording the syndicates' illegal exchange of guns and drugs. They were already in a hurry because it seemed the syndicates had discovered someone was spying on them, although they still didn't know Meruem's exact location. When Tyeron asked about the situation, Meruem answered that there were many armed men surrounding the area. He told Tyeron to wait a few more minutes before creating a distraction so he could safely move.
A few minutes later, Tyeron spotted a bulletproof vehicle.
Once he confirmed it was suitable, he quickly figured out how to unlock and start it. He was now inside the parking area. Meruem only needed to get down from his hiding place and jump inside.
Taking a deep breath, Tyeron revved the engine.
The gate burst open, and the sound of gunfire echoed throughout the compound.
Using only his left hand, he fired his gun at the armed men while steering with the other. Despite driving one-handed, he skillfully maneuvered the vehicle around them to avoid taking too many hits.
He soon spotted Meruem, who was also returning fire.
Driving straight toward him, Tyeron spun the vehicle around and swung open the passenger door.
Meruem immediately rolled toward the vehicle. Tyeron slammed on the brakes just long enough for his friend to climb inside.
Within seconds, Meruem was in the passenger seat. He rolled down the window and fired back at their pursuers while Tyeron sharply turned the steering wheel and sped toward the exit.
Once they were outside, Tyeron spotted Mikael's van already moving.
Unfortunately, several vehicles were chasing them.
"Let's split up, Kael," Tyeron ordered through the communicator.
"Okay," Mikael replied.
Tyeron turned onto another road while Mikael continued straight ahead.
"Send him the video you recorded," Tyeron instructed Meruem.
"I already did. Just focus on driving. We need to lose them—"
Meruem couldn't finish his sentence.
A violent impact suddenly slammed into their vehicle.
The next thing they knew, the car flipped over several times.
Mikael immediately stopped the van when he saw what had happened to the vehicle carrying his two friends.
Closing his eyes as tears streamed down his face, he quickly made a U-turn and rushed back.
The moment he reached the overturned vehicle, he hurried out.
He pulled Meruem out first, followed by Tyeron.
After loading both of them into the van, he pressed the emergency button on all three of their bracelets.
"Come on, buddies... stay strong. Don't die on me," he pleaded softly as he drove away.
Looking through the rearview mirror, he saw the vehicle explode.
He also noticed the men who had been chasing them earlier returning to the scene.
They had only been delayed by a few minutes, but it had been a bazooka that struck the rear of Tyeron's vehicle, causing it to flip over.
