Chapter 41 The Invisible Ghost

Chapter 41 The Invisible Ghost

In the basement of the villa complex, Will was holding a walkie-talkie, giving his team a pep talk.

"I know that bastard Klein has crushed our confidence time and time again, but guys, even if we can't beat him, we can't just let him run circles around us!

The gear I got this time can cover every inch of this villa. No blind spots!"

Will gripped the walkie-talkie so hard that his fingers turned white from the pressure.

He couldn't forget how Klein had humiliated them repeatedly. Even though he had swallowed his pride and offered to call Klein his teacher, Klein still looked down on them with disdain, which only fired up Will and his team even more.

"This time I'm using all the gear the Marine Corps just rolled out. I refuse to believe we still can't catch a trace of you."

Will's lips curled into a grin, the muscles at the corners of his eyes twitching, revealing bloodshot eyes.

He was very confident in this gear. Unless Klein was a ghost, even if he so much as farted, the infrared detector would pick it up!

But just then, Paul, who was watching the covert feed, suddenly stood up.

"Captain, we've got something!"

Will's expression immediately turned serious. He wheeled himself over to the monitor screen, where five sneaky figures were climbing over the outer wall and jumping into the villa courtyard.

"Five pros incoming. All right, guys, let's get this started."

Will's voice carried a barely noticeable tremor. He was so hungry for victory! Even if it wasn't a victory over Klein, it would be enough to excite them.

Suppressed growls came through Will's walkie-talkie, like a wolf pack about to attack, all of them fired up.

The same five assassins who had climbed over the wall still had no idea what they were facing.

Klein, following behind the five assassins, was mentally grading these guys as he tracked them.

"These are professionally trained assassins from the dark world. I just don't know which organization they belong to."

Klein calculated silently in his mind while reaching into a nearby bush and pulling out a transparent fishing line.

This was Klein's villa, after all. Besides some standard firearms, he had also stashed a few inconspicuous little gadgets that would come in handy at the right moment.

The five assassins, all very seasoned, avoided all the surveillance cameras, moving step by step toward the villa along the blind spots.

The five guys made no sound the entire time, communicating only through hand signals.

Against an ordinary wealthy person, these five guys might have found an opening, but right now the villa was like a crystal sphere in a giant's hand - every move they made was completely under Will's surveillance.

In a patch of ankle-high grass, a barely noticeable glint flashed - a camouflaged camera with infrared thermal imaging.

Even if the stars and moon were covered by clouds tonight, these five guys would still stand out like fireflies.

"Good, they've entered the ambush zone. Jason, Tom, get ready. As soon as he takes one more step, we'll..."

Will was staring at the monitor, giving orders, but before he could finish, on the surveillance screen in front of him, the one positioned furthest back among the five people was suddenly yanked by some unseen force into the nearby grass, and the feed from that patch went black at the same time.

"What's going on? Which one of you did that!"

Will shouted into the walkie-talkie. He was furious now. If one of his team members had acted without following his orders, he would definitely make that guy feel the captain's wrath.

However, confused voices came back through the walkie-talkie.

"Will, it wasn't me."

"Yeah, Captain, none of us moved."

"What happened, Captain? I don't see those five guys from here."

Will's pupils suddenly contracted. He believed his team members wouldn't lie to him. But what the hell happened? Why did one assassin suddenly disappear?

The four remaining assassins in the villa complex suddenly noticed movement behind them. They turned around and found one of their companions was missing.

The assassin walking in front immediately made a hand signal. The four assassins found cover nearby, crouched down carefully, gripped their weapons, and watched their surroundings warily.

"What's going on? Where's Donnie?"

The assassin who had just given the hand signal, the one with gray-blue eyes, stared hard at the surroundings.

He had only heard the sound of grass rustling. Sensing something was wrong, he turned around only to find one teammate missing. His teammate hadn't even made a sound - it was downright terrifying.

Suddenly, there was movement in the grass on the right.

The gray-blue eyes quickly turned that way, but his left ear suddenly heard a faint muffled grunt.

The three assassins simultaneously looked to the left, and one even shot an arrow from his crossbow toward where the sound had come from.

There was a faint twang of a bowstring, and a dark arrow shot into the grass, but there was nothing there. Not even the companion who had been crouching there.

"Another one gone!"

The same thought flashed through the minds of both the assassins and Will's team.

The assassins had lost two people in a row. This time, they didn't dare advance rashly. At the risk of being exposed, the three of them went back-to-back and crouched together defensively.

In the monitoring room, Will clenched his fists again. He could see more clearly than the assassins - the missing men were being dragged by some unseen force into the nearby grass, but there was nothing in the grass, and even the cameras went blind there.

Will stared at the black screen, his face turning pale.

Paul, also staring at the screen, bit his lip and voiced a guess.

"Could it be..."

"Shut up. Absolutely impossible. I don't believe a person can have no body temperature."

Will shouted at Paul to shut up. He knew Paul suspected it was Klein, and even he was suspicious. But this was top-of-the-line, newly developed equipment he had pulled strings to get. Just how capable was Klein? Not even leaving a trace on the thermal sensor.

"Captain, look at this."

Paul suddenly pointed at the screen and shouted. Will quickly looked at the screen.

On the screen, the three assassins, after going back-to-back, held their weapons and watched their surroundings.

Even through the screen, Will could feel the tension and terror in the three assassins' hearts.

And the next moment, on screen, all three assassins simultaneously dropped their weapons and reached for their necks, as if invisible hands were strangling them.

"Could it really be a ghost?"

Paul muttered to himself, unconsciously touching his throat, then shivered.

Will's expression wasn't good either, until a message appeared on his phone.

Klein: [These assassins are pretty mediocre. I'll leave them to you guys for practice.]
