Chapter 42 Intense Sense of Frustration

Chapter 42 Intense Sense of Frustration

After seeing the message from Klein, Will deflated like a punctured balloon and slumped in his wheelchair.

"It's him. I knew it was him. That man who's like a ghost."

Will's voice was bitter.

Paul looked at Will in disbelief.

"It was Klein? How did he do it? My God, does that guy really have no body temperature?"

Will shook his head bitterly. He couldn't answer that question, and more importantly, he had other things to deal with right now.

"Everyone, bring back the remaining three assassins."

After Will spoke into the walkie-talkie, he looked back at the screen. Paul looked up as well.

The three assassins seemed to be choked by an invisible force. After clawing at their necks a few times with no effect, one of them grabbed the dagger strapped to his leg and slashed at his throat.

As if cutting through something, the three assassins finally broke free.

The assassin with gray-blue eyes seemed to finally spot his target. He raised his silenced pistol and aimed at the nearby bushes, firing several shots. The muzzle flashed weakly with each muted gunshot.

Branches, grass, and dirt were shredded by bullets, but there was nothing there—no screams, no blood, no dull thud of bullets hitting flesh, only the shadows of weeds swaying.

"Bastard, I'm going to kill you!"

The gray-blue-eyed man drew his gun again, but this time the gunshot came from behind him.

A bullet pierced through his arm. The intense pain made him drop his gun. The next second, there was a loud bang, and a huge net fell from above, covering all three of them.

The moment their fingers touched the net, the three assassins convulsed violently from the electric shock, letting out screams and groans. It wasn't until their clothes were smoking from the current that Will's team finally stopped the electric shock.

A group of bodyguards emerged from their hiding spots. Paul wheeled Will out from the surveillance room to face the three assassins.

Two of the three assassins had been knocked unconscious by the shock. Only the gray-blue-eyed man was still holding on, using his last bit of strength to look at Will in the wheelchair.

"Why didn't you take us out one by one like a ghost?"

Clearly, this assassin thought everything that had just happened was Will's team's doing. It wasn't that he couldn't accept failure—he just couldn't accept being toyed with like a mouse.

Will stared at the assassin with a complicated expression, then waved his hand. Paul stepped forward from behind him and kicked the assassin unconscious.

"Send these guys to the police station and let the cops investigate."

Will waved his hand weakly, his voice drained, as if he'd aged decades in an instant.

"There are two more in the bushes over there. Don't forget them."

A voice came from above. Everyone looked up to see Klein on the second-floor balcony, wearing pajamas, holding a cup for rinsing in his left hand and a toothbrush in his right, deliberately pointing the bristles toward the nearby bushes.

"When did you get back?"

Will frowned at Klein.

Klein didn't answer the question. Instead, while brushing his teeth, he said, "You guys were too slow. You even needed an electric net to deal with these three. I got bored waiting, so I changed clothes and brushed my teeth. But you were a bit faster than I expected—at least you didn't make me wait until I finished making my milk."

All the bodyguard team members in the villa heard the mockery in Klein's words. Some hung their heads in shame, while others glared at Klein in embarrassment and anger.

After a series of blows, Will's mind had actually calmed down quite a bit. He looked at Klein and asked in confusion, "How did you avoid our infrared sensors? Are you a ghost with no body temperature?"

Klein took a sip of water and spat out the foam.

"You mean those things in the grass? Buddy, I saw those old relics ages ago. They all have little flaws. You just need to quietly fiddle with a certain switch and the whole thing shuts down."

"That's impossible! That's the latest equipment I bought!" Will's voice rose several notches.

Klein rolled his eyes at Will. "Buddy, you got scammed. Those big shots in the military are all busy stuffing their own pockets. Those R and D departments shut down ages ago. Your so-called new products are just old parts in new packaging! The military isn't what it used to be."

Klein, as a former mercenary, had dealt with military people plenty of times and naturally knew what kind of people they were. Although Will had also served in the military, he'd retired too early and had no idea about the current situation.

Will wanted to argue, but like a jammed gun, he couldn't get a word out. After retiring, he'd heard some comrades mention the situation in the military, but he'd chosen not to believe it.

"All right, guardian of the nation, go do your thing. You guys did pretty well this time. I'll have the princess commend you. After working hard all night, I should get some sleep."

Klein yawned, stretched, walked into the bedroom, and closed the balcony door.

Will waved his hand weakly.

"Go drag those two guys out too."

The bodyguards nodded silently and dragged the five unconscious men out of the villa.

Paul walked over holding a coil of cut fishing line.

"Will, he seems to have used this to deal with them."

Will took the fishing line and felt the spot where the assassin had cut it. His expression grew more and more complicated. He looked up at the closed balcony door.

"He took down assassins who probably cost millions of dollars to train with something that costs less than ten bucks?"

Klein had just finished brushing his teeth and was about to sleep when someone suddenly knocked on his door. He sighed and walked toward the door. Just from the footsteps, he knew it had to be Carol outside.

Sure enough, when he opened the door, Carol was standing there in her pajamas, holding a baseball bat and looking at Klein warily.

"Ms. Watson, didn't you hear the gunshots just now? Or has your baseball technique gotten so good that you can hit bullets with a baseball bat?"

Klein teased, but saw Carol glaring at him angrily, her face red.

"Will and his team already dealt with the assassins! I'm here to ask about something else—did you steal my underwear!"
