Chapter Two Hundred and Seven.
Chapter Two Hundred and Seven.
Ember's POV
Immediately I stepped into his ward, the atmosphere felt different. I didn't know what it was and I could not place my hand on it. It was just different.
It was just his mother who was inside and when she looked back and saw me, there was this expression in her eyes. She looked at me in a gentle manner which kind of made me feel better. The tension tightening in my chest calmed down a bit.
Her husband must have signalled to her behind me because she stood up and walked outside the room. But not before she stopped and pulled me in for a warm hug that clogged my throat with emotions.
What is going on right now?
When the door closed behind her, the room fell into silence. If a pin could drop, I would hear the sound of it.
“Red.” I heard him call my name. I could not look at him. My eyes were everywhere except him. I didn't know what I would say to him. “Come on now. Don't ignore me.” He croaked out and that made me look over at him. He sounded like he was in pain.
“Are you okay?” I said hurriedly as I rushed towards him.
“So, you were actually ignoring me?” He joked and I wanted to cry again.
“Don't play like that.” I chidded. “Why will you do that? Why did you come after me like that, putting yourself in trouble? Do you know how I felt when I heard that you were hurt?” I asked all the questions that were coming to my head at that particular moment.
I looked at him very well then. He was hooked up on a couple of machines and there were a couple of IV drips on both of his arms. This made me cry more. His chest was all bandaged up and it was not even funny seeing him like this at all.
“I'm fine.” He argued.
“No, you're not. And doing this is not right. For what? I'm literally your enemy and you know this. Why would you put yourself in such a of danger? What were you trying to prove?” I snapped angrily, but with tears running down my cheeks.
He seemed to be distressed a little bit.
“I don't like seeing you cry baby. But listen to me. I didn't fall in love with Raoul's daughter. I fell in love with you. And I would do it all over again even if it kills me. Even if I get to…”
“Don't complete that statement. Don't jinx whatever this is. It's not fair to me. I hate seeing you like this. Didn't you think of your family? Your parents? Your friends? Hell, Alex doesn't like me on a normal day, but with this stunt you pulled, you have no idea how much he hates me right now. Not like I care, but then. This is not so cool and you're telling me that you will do it again? You don't feel sorry for me right? Hell, I doubt if you feel sorry for yourself.” I asked. He raised his hand and held onto mine.
“Hey…hey. Stay with me.” He maneuvered me in a way that would make me sit down on the chair in front beside him.
“Listen to me, Red. You mean a lot to me. More than you will ever even know. I feel deeply for you. Whatever happened between our families happened in the past. I've made sure that my father comes to terms with that. And I want you to understand that too. You're not your father. You didn't even know it until a few days or hours ago. And I'm fine now. See, all better. The doctor said I was lucky though. And I'm recovering very fast too, which is rare.” He smiled mischievously and I wanted to hit him.
“You even said the doctor said you were lucky. Just imagine if you were not. How would you have coped with it? Promise me something.” I whispered.
“Anything.”
“You won't do something like this again.” I said to him. And he nodded.
“Before I agree to what you're saying. Promise me you won't run from me again. Because I know that I won't stop if you leave again. I'll chase you to the ends of the earth no matter how impossible that sounds like to you. So, let's both make promises that we would not keep.” he said and I nodded, a small smile forming in my lips. Despite his condition he was still able to joke around.
After that time, things started to go well. He recovered really fast. And in a few weeks he was discharged from the hospital and we were back at the house. He made sure that his guys didn't come over to the house to see him at all.
He said it was like they were slacking off. He sent his parents away and made me take a break from the garage, leaving Charlie to be in charge of every single thing that was going on there.
He made sure that I was with him every single time. It was like he was attention starved and I was getting used to it too. To the feeling of having a man dote over me and me taking care of him too. It was new and good.
We've bonded more and more over the past few weeks of his recovery and I loved it. He showed me the parts of him that I would not even have thought that he had. And I showed him myself too. I've come to discover that he was a big baby in the real sense. At least to me.
Earlier today, I got a text from my mother apologizing for what she's done and put me through all of these years. It sounded fake to me until she sent me the picture of an agreement of a rehabilitation center that she would be leaving for soon.
That is new.
She said if I would like to see her off, then she would be in the house until tomorrow morning. I didn't know if I should go and just bid her bye. I didn't tell Asher about it though.
After a lot of pondering, I decided to go. One last time.
