Chapter 206: Chapter Two Hundred and Six.

Ember's POV

"He is okay. He's safe."

And the amount of relief that I have felt since then knew no bounds. I wanted to see him, but I knew I could not. Not with the tension that was going on around at the moment. He was taken out of the ICU a few hours ago. They said the injuries were serious ones but he was pulling along well, so he was taken to a normal ward.

His friends were there with his parents. I stayed as far away as I could though. I didn't want to have a run in with any of them. Not even after knowing that his father was after my life.

Charlie left some time back and Gwen who did not leave my side since I got here went back home because of some things. So I was the only one left. I sat at the other side that was adjacent to the ward he was in just in case his parents came outside, I didn't know how I will face them.

Alex did not hide his dislike for me anytime he walked past me but Raffa was kind enough to give me updates about him when needed. And thank goodness he was doing okay. I've been sitting in this same position for over five hours now.

I called Gwen to tell her that I was leaving, but she told me not to and that I should wait. I told her there was no need for me to wait more than I have. It's not as though I would be allowed to see him, and he's doing very well now. So, I should just leave.

The moment I stood up and was about to leave, I heard my name being called and I stopped in my tracks.

“Ember Vale.” A deep voice said and I turned only to see Asher's father standing there. I almost faltered on my feet as I stood in front of him.

“Y..yes sir.” My voice shook, but I tried to keep my head up.

“Come with me.” He said simply and started to walk in front of me. I didn't need to be told twice before I followed him. Who knows?

He stopped in a corner of the hallway that was kind of silent and away from the eyes of people. I made sure to stay away from him for a couple of steps. What I will call a safe distancing.

“What are you to my son?” He asked.

“You know already.” I bit my tongue immediately the words came out. Why? But I could not help it. I know that he's trying to intimidate me and I was here falling into his trap.

“Mm…I see. You must know the relationship our family has, don't you?” He asked again.

“It just came to my knowledge a few hours ago. And apparently, you wanted your son to end things with me and maybe kill me.” I did a quote and unquote sign.

“I understand where you're coming from sir. My father who I have no memories of did really horrible things to you. The woman I called my mother for years who is not even my real mother said all of these things to me. She said she told you everything you need to know so you must know all these questions you're asking of me. You hate me and every single thing I stand for. I know. But I love your son. More than I thought I would. But then, I know that we won't work. I have that inkling already. So, you might as well save everything you want to tell me because I know how this would end, Sir.” I said in one breath.

His brows drew to the middle of his head which showed that he was angry. I expected him to explode and say what was on his mind, instead I was the one who was shocked.

“Whatever idea you have, you need to drop it right now. I didn't think that my son really liked you this much. I thought it was an infatuation of some kind...one like the ones he always had and that it will blow over soon, but I didn't think that's happening soon. His mother is livid with me after learning of what I've done to keep you guys apart. And I don't like it when my wife is mad at me. So, that brings me to the reason why I have called you here. You don't have to leave. Hell, you're not leaving at least, not until you settle whatever it is that you guys have going.” He said in a deep commanding tone.

“are you…do you know what you're saying sir? I…I'll let you know that you don't actually like me. I should leave before your son wakes up.” I tried to defend what I said. He shook his head.

“He's awake. And the first person he asked for immediately he opened his eyes was you.”

“He is awake...”

“As much as I don't like that, there is nothing I can do about it. I needed to speak to you first before you see him. You don't have to blame yourself for what happened, he takes after me with his stubborn and tenacious nature.” He said in a fed up tone and I felt tears start to cloud my vision.

“How don't you hate me? You should hate me, that is how this is supposed to end right? My father did evil to you and your family. A lot of things. And you know it.” I cried.

“You're not your father. If you seem to be a potential threat to my son, I will remove you from his life permanently before anyone knows it, but since you're not, enjoy the money and moment while it lasts.” He said. I could not find words to say. I knew he was threatening me with the undertone of his words.

“Come with me.” Without waiting for my answer, he was walking ahead of me again, expecting me to follow him.

And I did, wiping tears away from my eyes. Maybe things would work out.
