Chapter 127
Chapter 127
The next day, Rachel had no choice but to go to the hospital because of what Isaac had said.
Standing outside the hospital, Rachel still didn't know how to face Abigail.
She had bought some health supplements and brought them into Abigail's room, thinking this might help.
She knocked on the door.
A raspy voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Rachel then pushed the door open.
She saw Abigail lying in bed, her face pale and weak.
Rachel quickly placed the health supplements on the bedside table and said, "Isaac told me you're not feeling well, so I came to check on you."
"Are you pitying me?" Abigail asked coldly, glancing at Rachel.
Rachel coughed. "Why would I pity you? We're both women, and life isn't easy for either of us."
Abigail scoffed. "I don't know what you were thinking, marrying Isaac."
Her words were laced with sarcasm.
Both of them knew that Isaac was the reason Abigail ended up in the hospital.
Rachel didn't answer.
Abigail glanced at the health supplements on the bedside table and said indifferently, "I can't get pregnant anymore. I won't be a mother."
Rachel feigned surprise. "When I see Kevin, I'll make sure to teach him a lesson. How could he treat a girl like this?"
Abigail sneered. "It's not his fault. But why hasn't he come to see me? Is he really that busy? Is he not coming home often?"
Rachel paused befored saying, "He's been busy and hasn't been home. If you really want to see him, I can call him and see if he can come."
"You're just his stepmom. Do you really think he'll listen to you and come to see me?" Abigail said dismissively.
Rachel asked, "Do you have any other needs?"
"I just want to see him. Since I was hospitalized, I haven't heard from him. It's like he vanished into thin air!" Abigail lamented.
Rachel took out her phone and dialed Kevin's number.
Kevin answered quickly.
Abigail's expression changed as she watched Rachel step out to take the call.
After a while, Rachel returned to the room.
She said, "I don't know if he'll come to the hospital. Do you want to talk to him?"
Abigail looked at Rachel in surprise.
During her time in the hospital, she had called Kevin many times but all failed.
Abigail didn't expect Kevin to answer Rachel's call.
Abigail reached out her hand and took the phone from Rachel.
Rachel didn't pay attention to what Abigail said to Kevin, feeling a mix of emotions, somewhat distracted.
After the call, Abigail's face looked better, and she said to Rachel, "Kevin really listens to you."
Rachel chuckled. "You must be mistaken."
"I've been calling Kevin for a month since I was hospitalized, but he never answered."
Rachel suddenly felt sympathy for Abigail.
She continued, "Isaac said he'd make things right with your family for what Kevin did. I hope you can forgive him."
Abigail lowered her head. "It's not his fault."
"Alright, as long as you're okay, any compensation from us is fine. We owe you that much."
Abigail heard Rachel's words and shook her head resignedly. "I don't want anything."
Rachel's expression softened slightly.
She continued seriously, "I just want to finalize the wedding with Kevin and have a ceremony."
Rachel smiled without saying anything.
Time passed.
Then Kevin appeared at the door.
Rachel saw Kevin and immediately stood up. "Kevin, you're here."
Kevin looked at her with a playful smile, clearly annoyed that she called him to take care of someone else.
He couldn't help but laugh. "You called me at work. If I didn't come, I'd be a real jerk."
Kevin joked and walked into the room.
Rachel didn't mean to upset him. She didn't understand why Kevin was being sarcastic. Did she say something wrong to annoy him?
"You two have a good chat." Rachel left the room and closed the door.
Kevin glanced coldly at Rachel leaving.
He then looked at Abigail, who was still smiling.
"Do you know why I'm here?"
"I just haven't seen you in a long time..."
Kevin sneered. "You need to focus on getting better."
"Are you disgusted with me?"
Kevin didn't respond.
Abigail quickly said, "Kevin, please forgive me. I had no choice. My family kept pressuring me. I didn't know what to do..."
"I don't hate you. Our families' marriage is set in stone. You don't need to worry. In this marriage, our feelings don't matter."
Kevin finished and prepared to leave.
Abigail called out to him. "Did you ever have any feelings for me when we got engaged?"
Kevin's face changed slightly at the door. He looked back at Abigail and sneered. "Please, it's just a business arrangement. How could I have feelings for you? Don't worry, I won't tell anyone."
Abigail bit her lip, angry. "Then why are you so nice to me?"
"I'm your fiancé. I have to play the part in front of others. Otherwise, people will doubt it."
Abigail trembled, incredulous. "So you never liked me?"
"Is liking me that important to you? If you really want to hear it, I can lie to you."
Abigail was hurt by his coldness, tears streaming down her face.
"Is it because I can't have children that you're treating me like this?"
Kevin said calmly, "If I liked you, whether you can have children wouldn't matter. But if I don't like you, any flaw you have will be intolerable."
Kevin's voice was icy as he looked at Abigail.
Abigail was stunned, not expecting the truth to be so harsh.
All the past happiness was a lie.
