Chapter 126

Chapter 126

Rachel was startled and said anxiously, "Did I say something wrong?"

Isaac sighed, "Stop defending people who hurt you."

"Okay." Rachel blinked her big innocent eyes at him and smiled.

Isaac glanced at Linda, who was standing nearby, and said, "Come over here and hang my coat on the rack."

Linda suddenly said, "Mr. Smith, if you need a maid, why not let me take on some of these chores for the Smith family?"

Isaac hesitated for a moment, considering Linda's offer to work in the kitchen.

"Are you sure you can handle it?"

"What's there to handle? It's just laundry and cooking. I have nothing to do after work anyway!" Linda's words caught Isaac's attention.

He casually looked at Rachel and said, "Maybe you should find a job too. Staying at home all day isn't good."

Rachel coughed, realizing Linda was quite opportunistic.

She quickly said, "I've been looking for a job, but no one wants to hire me. If it comes to that, you could give me a position, and I'll start working right away."

"Alright, what department do you want to work in?"

Rachel lowered her eyes and thought for a moment, "The tech department."

"That department handles internal tech work. Are you sure you can manage?" Isaac asked coldly.

Rachel paused, then hurriedly said, "Don't underestimate me. Before I ended up in the red-light district, I went to college and even worked for a while. I just ran into some trouble, which is why I ended up there."

Isaac lazily looked at Rachel and said, "Fine."

"What? You agree?" Rachel looked at Isaac in surprise.

Isaac agreed because he didn't want Rachel to stay at home doing nothing. After all, she was the woman he planned to marry, and she needed to shed the red-light district reputation.

He didn't want people to keep bringing it up.

Having a job might prevent her from embarrassing him.

Isaac's thoughts were simple.

Rachel pretended to be happy, got up from the couch, and hugged Isaac, saying sweetly, "You're so good to me. You always agree to whatever I say!"

Linda felt jealous watching this scene, but she remained silent.

Rachel glanced at Linda and said calmly, "How long does she plan to stay here?"

"Depends on the time. Maybe a week, maybe a month. Why do you ask?" Isaac looked at Rachel in his arms.

Rachel cautiously said, "It's just that having an extra person at home feels a bit strange."

"Don't worry, Mrs. Smith. I won't compete with you for Mr. Smith. Once I handle my family matters, I'll move out immediately." Linda smiled sincerely at Rachel.

Rachel didn't respond.

Linda's words implied that Rachel was petty and couldn't tolerate others.

Rachel hadn't said anything against Linda staying.

But in Linda's eyes, it seemed Rachel didn't want her there because of Isaac.

Isaac hated jealousy and petty behavior. Linda had just nailed Rachel to the wall.

Rachel smiled without saying anything.

It was a subtle battle.

Isaac looked at both of them and said, "Let's try to get along."

Rachel shook her head and replied, "Honey, I won't argue with anyone unless they give me a reason."

Linda smiled and added, "Yeah, I get along well with Mrs. Smith. We should be friends."

"The Smith Manor isn't a place for your petty fights. Rachel, be more accommodating."

Rachel nodded, her face slightly cold.

Isaac was quite pleased with Rachel's behavior, focused entirely on him.

Only then did his fragile ego feel satisfied.

He left and went upstairs.

Rachel got up from the couch and headed to the kitchen to cook.

Linda came over and said coldly, "I'll cook."

"No need, actually I..."

"Mrs. Smith, you probably haven't done much housework and don't know how to cook. Let me handle it." Linda kindly entered the kitchen.

Rachel stood outside, watching Linda start chopping vegetables and opening the pot.

She didn't intervene.

Since Linda liked cooking, she let her do it.

Rachel lazily returned to the couch and turned on the TV.

People started coming home from work.

Ethan was the first to arrive and saw Rachel lounging on the couch like a lazy cat. He wanted to approach her but heard Isaac's voice from upstairs.

"You're back?"

Ethan's hand stopped mid-air. "Yes, father. Just finished work."

"Good, stay busy and fix that bad temper of yours."

Rachel paused, worried Isaac might notice something amiss, and moved away from Ethan.

Linda brought the food to the table.

Vera came downstairs.

Ralph and Dennis returned, and they all had dinner together.

But Kevin was missing.

Rachel felt sorry for Kevin, who was always out and never came home, thinking about saving some food for him.

Isaac coldly said, "If he wants to eat, he can come home. If he doesn't like coming home, let him stay out. Don't save any food for him!"

Rachel quickly said, "Honey, why do you say that? Kevin is just busy."

"Busy with what? He's busy playing around at clubs all day. He is spoiled. I asked him to apologize to the Wilson family, and he refused."

Rachel said nothing more, picking at her food.

Vera deliberately said, "Maybe Kevin found a new girlfriend outside?"

Isaac picked up a piece of meat and said coldly, "Probably. He never comes home and just plays around. If he found a new girlfriend, what else could it be?"

Isaac then glanced at Rachel and said, "Abigail is still in the hospital. If you can, go visit her."

Rachel's expression froze. "Honey, why do you suddenly want me to go?"

"Who else should go? There's no one else to handle things at home. Kevin won't go, so you have to. You're his mother. Since he caused trouble, you need to clean up his mess."

Isaac had caused the trouble, but he pushed all the responsibility onto Kevin and made Rachel handle it.

Rachel understood but didn't dare say anything, so she agreed.
