Chapter 114
Chapter 114
The last thing Ethan wanted was to see Rachel cry.
Whenever Rachel cried, tears would stream down her face, and Ethan's heart ached terribly.
He pulled Rachel tightly into his arms and said, "Don't worry, I'll always protect you, Stepmom."
Rachel tried to break free from his embrace, feeling uncomfortable with his hold.
Ethan looked at the struggling Rachel in his arms, exhaled deeply, and said, "I won't tell father about any of this."
"Honestly, it doesn't matter if you tell him. I've had enough of Kevin! I just want to get rid of him!" Rachel started to play the victim.
She knew that if she appeared pitiful enough, this matter wouldn't come to light.
She hadn't even figured out the real cause of her parents' death yet.
And now, Ethan had discovered her affair with Kevin.
Rachel's situation was becoming increasingly difficult.
Every day spent in the Smith family was pure torment, and she had no idea what to do.
Thinking about all this, Rachel's breath hitched slightly. She lifted her tear-streaked face from Ethan's shoulder.
Ethan's eyes darkened. "Stepmom, you can't get pregnant with Kevin's child."
That was a certainty.
If she got pregnant with Kevin's baby, it would be even harder to face Isaac in the future.
Rachel didn't even dare to think about what she would do if it came to that.
She exhaled deeply and said firmly, "Don't worry, I definitely won't."
Rachel struggled to get up, but her legs were too weak to move.
Ethan saw her collapse to the ground, unable to get up. "Do you need to go to the hospital?" He picked her up.
Rachel forced a smile and looked at Ethan. "No need."
"But your condition..." Ethan said, his heart aching.
Rachel's body felt so soft, like silk.
Ethan glanced at Rachel in his arms, holding her gently, as if she might fall at any moment.
He insisted on taking Rachel to the hospital.
Rachel grabbed his hand and said, "Really, there's no need. I can manage in the house."
Ethan paused for a moment, considering her words.
Then he slowly began to remove her clothes.
Rachel's face turned pale with fear, and she coughed lightly. "What are you doing?"
"Helping you apply some medicine," Ethan said in a low voice.
Rachel immediately pulled her clothes tight and scolded Ethan, "You can't do this. Even though we're family, you can't."
"Then why Kevin can?" Ethan asked, staring at Rachel.
Rachel was momentarily speechless.
"Tell me, what's the difference between me and him?"
Rachel took a deep breath and said, "Different is different!"
"Because you've already slept with him, so it's different?" Ethan said, his large hand resting on her shoulder.
At that moment, a noise came from downstairs.
Rachel pushed Ethan away forcefully.
She left the bedroom and saw that Isaac had returned.
Rachel quickly fixed her clothes and went downstairs to greet him.
"Honey, you're finally home!"
Isaac saw Rachel running down the stairs.
Rachel walked across the floor to Isaac, just about to hug him.
Isaac turned to the woman beside him and said, "Let me introduce you to my secretary."
Rachel's face froze when she saw the secretary.
Her gaze turned cold as she stared at Isaac. "She..."
"She'll be staying here for a while."
Rachel knew Isaac was having an affair.
But she didn't realize that after Abigail was hospitalized, Isaac had found a new woman.
No wonder his business trip took so long.
Rachel's face darkened as she looked at Isaac, her eyes dimming. "Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?"
"She's just an employee. Don't overthink it."
Isaac then asked, "How have you been these past few days?"
Rachel remained silent.
The secretary, sensing the tension, stepped forward to lighten the mood. "Hello, I'm Linda, Isaac's secretary. I hope you won't misunderstand our relationship."
She extended her hand.
Rachel had no intention of shaking hands and turned away.
After a moment, Rachel coughed and asked, "Why does she need to stay at the Smith Manor?"
"My house is undergoing some renovations. Thankfully, the boss helped me out, but I can't go back home for a few days."
"He is kind-hearted, so he offered to let me stay here..." Linda's gaze slowly fell on Isaac's face.
Isaac nodded openly. "Yes! From now on, don't ask too many questions. Just take care of the house."
Rachel hesitated, and Ethan came downstairs at that moment.
He approached Rachel, his eyes dark. "Stepmom is sick. I'm taking her to the hospital."
"I heard you haven't been to the office lately?" Isaac asked, displeased, glancing at Ethan.
Isaac felt that Ethan was meddling too much.
"Father, you haven't been home these days and don't know anything. Stepmom has been taking care of me and Kevin tirelessly. She needs to think about herself too."
Rachel tugged at his sleeve, signaling him to stop talking.
Ethan continued in a low voice, "Stepmom isn't related to us by blood, yet she takes such good care of us. She's really kind."
"Father, you should treat her well."
Isaac sneered, "Since when did my you become so filial?"
He glanced coldly at Rachel.
"Tell your son I haven't deprived you of anything. He shouldn't be accusing me of treating you poorly."
Rachel was at a loss for words.
What was Ethan thinking? Wasn't he afraid Isaac would suspect their relationship?
Rachel lowered her eyes, thinking for a moment. "Honey, don't overthink it. Ethan just isn't used to being without his mother. He's good to me because of your good upbringing."
Ethan's face darkened at Rachel's submissive attitude.
She said nothing more.
But Ethan's voice was cold as he said, "Father, you've always been the head of this family. We have no objections. But if you plan to be with Stepmom, you should treat her well instead of bringing another woman into the house..."
Before he could finish, Isaac slapped Ethan across the face.
