127. Always Something
Fox POV
The news of the pregnancy was incredible, I couldn’t believe it I was going to be a dad. And triplets, what more could I ask for. Ophelia truly was incredible. But her reaction had been nothing short of erratic. She had screamed and I had to admit her lashing out at me in public had been amusing. I had to be calm but, on the inside, I was laughing my ass off. Her pointing her finger and all, she already had the whole mom thing down.
But her getting out of the car was infuriating. I had gone home to get her clothes and her weapons. With the way everything was going I couldn’t let her go anywhere in the city without weapons, even when she was with me. She needed some kind of protection besides me. Especially now that she was carrying babies. Fuck, babies she was having three of them.
I was furious though now as she was walking down the sidewalk. I could see her, but the light turned green, and I had to pull forward and leave her alone. I slammed my hand on the steering wheel. Why did she have to be so pissed about this blessing. I pulled into the penthouse. What the hell was she thinking getting out of the car? It wasn’t the end of the world. It was just kids.
I pulled out my phone and called my little psycho. It rang once then went flat. She had ignored the call. I tried again and same thing. I decided it was best to clean up our bathroom. It still had blood in it. I cleaned it and then was left with nothing to do. Shit, I knew I had things to do. Like, go get a fucking gangbanger to string up. Maybe that would make Ophelia happy. She would have someone to take out, whatever this anger was, on.
I sat down in my office. I needed to see who was no longer faithful to me. I also needed to find someone to go with. There was no way, I could go and grab one of them alone, that would be naive. I didn’t have Cesar any longer. He was off living a new life. I pulled out my phone to tell him the news. I got a response instantly. “Congratulations! How did Ophelia take it?” He asked. “She threw shit, yelled at me, and got out of the car at a red light.” I texted back he sent a laughing emoji.
I started to figure out who I could take with me. It couldn’t be EJ. He was a good shot no doubt and could hold his own in a fist fight, but he didn’t particularly look intimidating. Then there was Caden, or Justus. Justus would be a good choice, but I didn’t grow up with him. Caden, I had known much longer and was super strategic. But despite thinking critically, he was not the best at reading people. But again, he was better at thinking than Justus.
I called Caden. “What’s up Valentine, how is it out wherever you and Cesar went?” “I am back in the city.” I spoke. “Oh, okay, anyways what is up?” He asked. “Want to confront a gang leader with me?” I asked. “Um not particularly.” “I wasn’t asking Caden, I need someone to come with me.” “Why not Ophelia? She is a fucking baller.” “That is not an option.” “I get they are heathens and obviously she is a woman, but she could hold her own.” “I said that isn’t an option Caden.” “Fine, which gang is it. Some of them give me the fucking creeps.”
I sighed. “Yeah, no idea yet, I need to find one who has been turned against me. Any ideas?” I asked. “Is it a gang leader who is behind all this. Is that what Ophelia found out the other night. I knew she was torturing someone, that was apparent based on how she looked when I dropped off the cache of weapons but is that what she got out of them?” He asked. “Yes, and more, it is all Murphy, he is behind this shit.” I said with no kind of emotion. “Fuck, he always was a two-bit piece of shit. So why are we going after a gang member if it is Murphy behind all of this?”
I gritted my teeth, why did he have so much to say? He could just ask when and where and we could get this shit done. “Ophelia has a plan well we do at least. So, when can you do this with me.” “Look you tell me when, you are the boss. But figure out which gang and I can plan accordingly.” “Fine, but Caden you should know with Cesar gone I will need you to step up.” I said realizing as I said it, that he would. “Why can’t Ophelia? I am not upset by it, but she is way better at that shit than me. I do have other work, you know building the greatest weapons of all time.”
I rubbed my left temple. “Because she is pregnant, that is why.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “Congratulations, that is exciting.” “Yes, so you need to step up.” “Valentine I can but it isn’t like it is a full-time job for you either, I mean when everything is handled it is only part of both of our incomes.” “True, so just in the meantime you can help more.” I snapped at him. “Will do boss, anyways just tell me when, where, and who.” “Great,” I hung up abruptly. Then I went over the spreadsheet I had of the gangs in the city.
So, Ophelia said that Martin Jameson was one of those she killed when she went all Rambo. Who are his associates outside of his gang. I clicked on him in my spreadsheet which I had organized to take me to his link. A new tab opened, and I began to read the notes I had on him. His rap sheet was up in front of me, but was not getting any information that would tell me anything. I decided to check his police records. He had a juvenile record but no infractions as an adult.
I went back to see which Neiborhood he grew up in. In the search I found he had an accomplice in his youth, but then a year later that person was hospitalized, from the reports I read it looked to be gang related based on the injuries he obtained. The name Jordan Jones. I knew that name. I went back to my spreadsheet. He was a gang leader. I leaned back. If he was on the one who controlled the gang called The Children. I had written he was obstinate with me.
He could have flipped on me, no surprise based on my notes, but he hated Martin. Well, I assumed he did since Martin put him in the hospital when he was 16. Would he work for Murphy if Martin was or was, he still loyal. Tricky very tricky I thought. I leaned back in my chair I had been at this for hours. I heard the front door slam shut. Ophelia had to be back. I got up from my desk and went to see her. I looked at her and saw she had some blood on her face. I looked at her hair and saw some there too. Her hands also had blood. Her clothes were black, and I didn’t know if there was blood on them as well. “What happened?” I asked. Her cold stare turned to me. “Someone died.”
She walked off not offering any other explanation. She was heading to the room, and I followed. “Who died?” I asked as I watched her strip her clothes. Her lithe body was stunning, and I felt my cock twitch in my pants at her naked body. She said, “Some fucking idiots died, that is who?” “What happened my little psycho?” She turned and faced me not carrying she was butt naked before me. “Well, let’s see I was on my way back, and a guy approached me. I said to fuck off.”
She went on. “He did then as I got closer to home, I saw him again and I knew you would be pissed if I got in a fight being pregnant, so I changed my direction, seeing he had friends with him. I don’t know how long they had been following me. And before you say I need to be more vigilant; I had a lot of shit on my mind so being all high alert was not my priority.” I clenched my jaw. It was a tricky thing, I wanted her to be vigilant, but not vigilant enough to know she had a tail on her always. I also was happy that she had at least tried to avoid a fight considering her condition.
“Go on” I encouraged wanting to know the rest of what happened. “Anyways, I changed direction, and the little crew followed me. I then saw there was more, well I thought so, I was right because as I ducked in an alleyway they appeared on the far end, having gone around the block. I was cornered. I used the boomerang and took those two out easy you know, then the three were on me. I used my knife, hence the blood. I couldn’t use the gun it would draw attention. This city has gone to shit, you should do something about it. Anyways, I want to shower and go to bed.” She spoke.
“The stitches Ophelia.” I reminded her. “I have a shower cap but will need to do spot cleaning on my bloody hair.” She turned and slammed the bathroom door. My eyebrows bunched. I should have said more than reminding her about the stiches but didn’t know what. I had a lot to say, like what the fuck about a boomerang, and what about the bodies. I wasn’t mad that she killed, she did as she pleased and death was no new thing, and those fuckers deserved it. Also, it wasn’t like she was looking for a fight. I also should have asked if she was hurt, or did anyone notice her being bloody? Later, I would have to ask later. I heard the shower. I should grab her food she needed some, I was sure. Why was it always something?
