Chapter 99 - My Rebellious Luna
BECKY POV
The days definitely did go by faster now that I had decided to put what happened between Luke and I on the back burner. When we weren’t preparing, training and checking in on the pack members. We spent as much time as we could together. It gave us the much needed strength for what was to come.
Rob and the boys had converted our bunker into a small fortress. Many of the doors in the pack house and bunker had reinforced doors. Even if they discovered where it was, they wouldn’t be getting in. Cameras around the pack allowed us to see everything on any of the televisions, computers, tablets or phones.
They effectively brought our pack into the future. The best part was that it didn’t look like they had. It was still the same pack I had been thrown into all those months ago. What has changed is what this place means to me now. The pack members are my family, one that I chose to be a part of.
Lilimar was the first one here to make me feel at ease, even though I thought she was crazy. Now she’s sitting in Jordan’s lap, while he palms her baby bump that appeared overnight. Now he sported a hint of a smile, which was like a full blown grin for him. Matt was making the best out of the shitty situation he was in. I really wish Naomi hadn’t gone as far she did. At least I can say we all tried to be understanding and lenient, until we couldn’t.
Then there was my blood family. Jason called me yesterday and reminded me I needed to tell my parents I was pregnant. Considering my pup is forming at a much faster rate and I will be delivering three months ahead of time, he was right. As soon as I got off the phone with him, I called my mom and when I told her she began to cry and yell for my dad. I thought she was upset until she began to say “Otro bebe! (Another baby!)”over and over again while my dad tried to calm her down.
I had to beg them to stay home and not come over this weekend. Making some lame excuse about a trip we were taking. I had to promise to visit next month. It broke my heart that they would never get to see this place. That I would have to continue to make excuses for them not to come. I will need to make more of an effort to go see them in the future.
I couldn’t believe how quickly it was the day before we would attack Dark Shadows. Everyone is somber during dinner right now. It was our last meal together until they returned. We did our best to speak of happy things and enjoy one another’s company. Tonight, at midnight, our Alpha, Beta and the warriors will depart. It is true that no one wins in a war. There are always losses, even when you are on the victorious side.
Jordan has done his best to scope out the Dark Shadows' territory with the drones. He wasn’t able to see inside the pack since we didn’t want them to know we were spying on them. From what we saw, their borders are heavily guarded by small camps of rogues. The same rogues the lookouts had informed us were making their way towards Dark Shadows the past week. To get into the territory, our warriors will need to go through them first.
We still believe our army outnumbers theirs but are preparing for anything. “The boys are staying here and I’m going with Luke and the warriors to help with the drones.” Rob announced and continued eating. When I turned to Luke, he seemed surprised by Rob’s announcement. I shook my head and swallowed my food quickly. “It’s too dangerous. What if..” He put up his hand, quietening me. “My pregnant niece and son are here.” That’s all he said before going back to his food.
As much as I wanted him far away from here when everything went down. It made me feel safe that he would be here. We were prepared but Dark Shadows always seemed to catch us by surprise and I didn’t want to underestimate them. After dinner, Luke and I went into his office with Jordan, Lilimar, Matt and Rob, along with the boys. While the warriors spent time with their families and rested.
We went over everything for the hundredth time, which normally would have annoyed me. Now it felt necessary and comforting. There were a few changes made now that Rob would be going with them. Since Sergio and Manny were going to be here, they were also given jobs. If we did end up in the bunker they would be manning the doors.
That meant two more warriors would be available to fight if needed. I just prayed nothing would happen to any of them. I would never forgive myself for bringing them here. I looked at their faces to see if any of them looked unsure of what they were getting into. The only thing I saw was determination and a little… excitement? My family is definitely full of loons.
Jerry already had his job monitoring the live feed from the cameras. He and Matt would be communicating throughout the night. Since Jerry couldn’t mindlink, he needed to alert one of us so that we could warn the pack if anything seemed suspicious. I wondered if he was considering going through the change. The next full moon was in two days.
Luke squeezed my hand, bringing me back to reality. “We are leaving in two hours, let’s get some rest.” he announced. Jordan and Lilimar were the first to leave the room and Matt, Rob and the boys followed. My heart sank knowing we had such little time left together. The second they set foot outside of our territory, I would feel like a part of me is missing.
I have a new-found respect for military wives or even girlfriends. “Don’t pout Pastelito.” Luke pulled me from my chair and into his arms. I turned to face him, straddling him with my face on his neck. His scent was the only thing that managed to calm my nerves. “I love you my Luna. I love our pup and both of you give me the strength I need to go out there and get rid of anyone that is a threat to either of you.” He tightened his hold on me and kissed the top of my head.
There was so much I wanted to say but I was scared I would begin to sob if I did. I needed to be strong for him, for my pup and the pack. Getting up to his feet, he took us to our room. Sitting me down on the bed, he took off my shoes and his. Lying down, I played my part as little spoon. I’m good at that. “I spent so much time punishing you, keeping you away… I wish I hadn’t. You deserved it, but I wish it hadn’t happened. Right now, I don’t want to let you go.” He nodded his head behind me.
“It was my fault, Shortcake. I learned my lesson and when I come back I will prove it to you.” We lay there for the remaining two hours we had left with each other. Going over possible names for our pup. Wondering who he or she would look like. Talking about the future and everything our pup would bring. When he sat up I knew it was nearly time. Time for him to leave and for me to be the Luna I was born to be.
